cause?

I would think the first thing that needs to be done is find the cause before you can get an idea about rehabilitation.  These are repeated strokes and debilitating.

Many things can cause a stroke.  I was taught in psych class in college that we all have mini-strokes after the age of 40, just don't notice them.  It's common.  But your dad -- You don't mention any tests.  I'd get to the bottom of the cause and then see what you are faced with.  Do this for him and for you.  Please.  And don't let any doctor just brush him off just because he is not young.  I went through that with my father.  Keep searching until someone levels with you and tells you the whole story and treats him with respect and genuine concern for his health.

A few words of encouragement -- I've also been taught that contrary to what they used to say, brain tissue can regenerate after a stroke but the degree of regeneration cannot be certain.  Also, there is a window of opportunity (1 hour I believe) when you have a stroke where you can be administered a medication that will counteract it -- I'm sure someone else here knows more than I about this, as I learned it years ago and can't remember the details.  Perhaps this only works with certain causes of strokes.  But if it happens again, I'd get him immediately to the ER whether he wants to go or not and demand all care possible.

Strokes are nothing to take lightly, which I am sure you are not doing, but just because they are "common" at a certain age doesn't mean there is no hope.  But neither does it mean the situation might not get worse if the cause is not determined right away and treated.  Realize -- the strokes may affect his ability to think and make proper decisions for himself regarding this.  You might need to be more demanding of him for his own sake and demanding with the physicians as well, as hard as that is.  I've been there.  I feel for you and you and he will be in my prayers.
