I was raising kids then...
And I remember the Reagan years as being good. Very good. I remember the ketchup-as-a-vegetable debate, but most people remember those years fondly.

I am single mother, raising my kids on my own, but not
by choice, because my husband died at a very young age and because of his illness we weer unable to get life insurance, so I am left to support them on my own. I really am upset that would even look down upon a single parent in such a way. If you want people to be open-minded to your decisions in life, I suggest you not group all single parents into some sort of welfare classification.
Staying at home and raising us kids worked for my mother
Hmm. It should be okay with me right? Oh, wait, that puts me in the welfare line which you think everyone takes advantage of.

You don't live in your mother's time. I wish you did, because the internet didn't exist then.
Agree with this. Regular aerobics and no white foods/sugars. nm
s
I agree, tax lady was rude but you should know all about person you are
x
I agree with your kids. sm
Kids need to be able to be individuals as long as they are not showing anything they shouldn't show and as long as the clothing is not distracting.

However, for schools to decide to go to uniforms is just ridiculous and more of a cost to the parents. Instead of having to buy church clothes and school clothes, now the parents would have to buy school uniforms, church clothes AND then of course their regular clothing that they will wear whenever they go anywhere but school.

If a parent chooses to send a child to private school, then that is by choice and yes they should have to wear whatever uniform is necessary. As far as public school, no way. The schools need to start putting more emphasis on educating our children and quit worrying about trivial things such as what the kids are wearing.
I totally agree and think that is why many kids
are the way they are today. I think since now most moms have to work outside of the home (not us of course!) they are so guilt-ridden from leaving them at daycares, etc. all day that they don't dare discipline them at all and act almost as if they are worshipped. I am also getting sick of people bringing their infant children and all the rest of them out to fancy restaurants for late evening dinners and thinking it's just adorable when a kid starts screaming or having a tantrum because he wants ice cream and not a gourmet meal. In the good old days there were things called non-working moms, babysitters and spankings! And the kids didn't have half the problems they have today. I don't remember ONE kid that appeared to have ADD or ADHD when I was in school. And I don't remember everyone wanting so much to be famous and a millionaire and have perfect Hollywood looks. We were all pretty much the same, normal! It is very sad what is happening to this world and the upcoming generations.
I agree - no kids, why do they have to have a relationship?
nm
I agree, and they need to think about kids watcing too.
It seems that they think they can get away with more because it is a commercial. Some commercials are worse than TV shows that I would not even consider letting my kids watch, and there it is forced upon them. Terrible.
I so agree...mother of 3 healthy kids
I have a similar relative who would NEVER let anyone around her girls when they were babies, whether we were sick or not.  No one was allowed to even hold them.  Those babies grew up to be 2 of the sickest kids I ever saw.
I agree..it sounds like kids are picking on him...
Some kids most definitely are cruel...That is why I wish all public schools had uniforms too...would make life so much easier I tell ya...I would definitely have a talk with him about it...good luck...I have a 9-1/2-year-old son and he is like the below posters son: forgetfull, lacks common sense, et cetera.
I agree. Little did we know. The young kids today

how we lived without computers and cell phones.

I did just fine.

I remember knowing who lived in every single house in our little neighborhood.  In summer, all of us neighborhood kids would ride our bikes down the street and all the adults would be out on their porches or leaning on fences talking to one another and the baseball game would be on everyone's radio.

We would roll down to the neighborhood pharmacy, sit at the soda fountain and order chocolate Cokes and sometimes cherry Cokes.  Then you HAD to go to the neighborhood mom and pop grocery store, stand 4-deep at the penny candy counter and all shout and point at the same time.  I LOVED Mary Janes and those little foil covered chocolate "Ice Cubes."  Anyone remember them?  Then of course, you had to grab a bottle of coke out of the ice-filled Coca-Cola cooler, and little bits of ice would stick to the bottle and that Coke tasted soo icy cold and bubbly.

I remember thinking as a kid, boy how can anything get better than all this.

I was so right.

As a side note -- my sister found my old wicker basket from my bike in her basement.  I repainted it white and have it on my bedroom wall, and fill it with silk seasonal flowers.  Right beside it I have a picture on the wall of me and my best old friend in our Girl Scout uniforms, smiling and hugging.  She died from leukemia a couple years ago.  We were friends for 40 years.  A piece of heart will always be gone now.  But when I look at that picture and that basket I think of happier times, at least for me as a kid.

lol, I so agree - why are kids the way they are today? Rude and obnoxious?
The generation raising them, apparently. Kids today are treated like little princes and princesses. I don't know when children became things of worship but they have. And this time out and talking to the child it such crap, when most just need a good smack now and again. Hey it worked for us. When I was growing up we kids were not disrepectful and we didn't think the world owed us something and we grew up to be decent people. We were afraid of our parents in a way and it helped us to be decent kids. I don't remember being worshipped by my parents. So, I just can't imagine this world in say 20-30 years, how scary.
I totally agree with you and this is what is wrong with the kids today!
They think they're *all that* and then some. And they're in for a rude awakening. LOL
Just because you are not raising someone
does not mean that you are not spending time with your grandson. Of course you are going to see pics of them together. She was in his life, but she did not raise him.

Yes, ANS had problems...no doubt. She had PROBLEMS though. I think all the bashing everyone does is pretty sad.

Her mom was no saint though. To say, oh she raised Daniel for 6 years so she must not be too bad is just crazy.

Honestly, you cannot base any of their characters off anything because none of you lived in their life, none of you knew them personally and knew what went on behind closed doors and not just what our twisted media decided to show you....not even I can judge their character because even what I know is limited!

Let yourself be the one on the other side of that lens one day and see how it feels to have someone judge your character. Don't believe everything you see/read....especially the crap that comes from our "news."

Raising.......... sm
We had "raising" in those days. I think that is something that seems to be disappearing from society today at an alarming rate. I can remember my mother giving me the big hairy eye if she even thought it looked like I was hinting for something. Kids today just come right out and ask for what the want....or demand it.
I agree! Many kids are overweight, lazy and don't want to work hard for anything!
Good luck to them in the working world...how many do you think will actually do well? It's a scary thought.
raising my hand too..sm
and personally, due to the amount of money involved in ALL professional sports, I cannot help but think that most of it is one big set up and the public is being ripped off by feeding in to it, sort of like the professional wrestling teams. that is just a thought though, and not meant to stir up any one's irrational emotions about sports. I also think they are TOO competitive and families are pushing their youngsters into sports WAY too young, just to bring in the big bucks later in life. Part of my work is for a pediatric orthopedist and a youngster of 3 years old suffering sports injuries, in my opinion, is WAY too young!
to raising my granddaughter
Thank you for all the information. I may email you as this thing goes along. What a mess for the kids. I wish the mom would get some help, but she is perfectly happy in the drug world and doesn't see a thing wrong with it. Thanks again for the info.
OK I have exp with raising beagles...sm
My husband has 10 hunting beagles in kennels. I do most of the taking care of them. I also have a pit bull and a beagle inside.

You are in a predicament. The dog definitely deserves and should be treated the best that can be provided. First of all, is she getting fed and all? Make sure she has food and water. Look on the internet and look at the pics of dogs with sarcoptic mange. Just a few months ago one of our beagles got it and looked awful. She lost her hair and scratched and had bleeding spots on her from the scratching. Some just lose spots of hair. If it has this I can tell you how to get rid of it and make the dog look like a different dog. We treat our beagles a lot ourselves. If it has mange it would need ivermectin but the problem is if it has heartworms and you wouldn't know unless you take it to the vet to check then the ivermectin would kill it. The test to check is about $30. If it does not have the heartworms then you give it a shot of ivermectin 1/10 of a mL for every 10 pounds. Make sure not to overdose. You give it once a week for 4-5 weeks. It kills the mange and most everything else it might have. But you have to be very careful because an overdose is lethal. Also to help grow the hair back you put on NuStock which can be bought at a feedstore for around $12 a tube. It has instructions on it. THe ivermectin can be bought at the feedstore too. This is for cows. That is why you only give it a very small amount. It is 30 something dollars for a thing of it. This is how I cured my husbands beagle and it worked and the dog looks great. Regrew all the hair and is very healthy. But make sure it don't have heartworms first. And weigh it to see how much to give. This is a alternative to vet care and I am telling you it works.
I agree - the switching idea is HORRIBLE. When I was a child the kids who got switched

That's good to know, in 25 years of raising
show cats,I have never seen stud tail in a neuter, but then it could just be my breed.
latchkeying is not raising children, as you put it
latchkey children are not raised by their parents, so what are you talking about, besides the fact that you're laughing about it, which makes you sound immature as well.
Me raising another person's child?
Someone would have to be out of their minds to think (don't care if my own child) that I would raise another's child- the only way would have to be the parents no longer on this earth. I raised my 2, worked really hard to do so, working sometimes multiple jobs at a time and I be da.... if I am giving up my golden years to be blanketed by babies/young children/teenagers - not this lady.
Maybe it is..but tonight's whole show was about raising money
and DOING SOMETHING... and motivating us... and making us realize how bad things are out there for some people.
Remember when we were talking about goodsearch.com and raising money sm

for your local charity? Well, our local news broadcast got in touch with me and they want to interview me about using goodsearch! haha

I was like, "here? At my house?"

I guess they want to come over and watch me do it and show them how I use it to search for medical terms and then show how much money I've raised so far for our local charity...I'm so nervous! I would have to CLEAN like crazy, clean my desk. Ugh! I don't know, I haven't committed to it yet........But I'd like to get the word out about my charity!!

I dod get regular paps (sm)
Had one about 7 or 8 months ago. Had dysplasia about 10 years ago, conal biopsy and LEEP. Have always had normal paps since. I have a lot of symptoms don't want to be too graphic - hot flashes, bleeding between periods, pink dschg and another I don't want to say on here. I had attributed all this to perimenopause until this last symptom which has me scared now.
You are a regular laugh
xx
How is it different from regular shampoo?
Is it conditioning? I have to avoid conditioning shampoos, so I've wasted a lot of money trying shampoos that are all about conditioning the hair (It irritates the skin).
Your regular bus driver
desires a poinsetta or something. It's good to reward good service.
regular or flavored?
nm
Well, regular people might be
ignorant but what about the humane shelters who refuse to adopt them out because of their aggressive nature? You can talk and talk but it does not change the fact that these dogs are well known for their mauling and killing of people. Just because you love does not make it otherwise. Stick your head in the sand, no one else cares but most people have sense enough not to own.
Oh, and you forgot, his is not on a regular basis
either. I think he does not have enough information to make any kind of judgement on a home at this time. Where I live in the US you do not borrow from family/friends/anyone to put down a down payment. Rules are strict and no interest is a crazy thing to do. Repossessions are at an all time high- probably because of this.
Does he do this at his regular feeding times?

Have you cut back not only on the amount of food but the amount of times you feed him? If so, that may be why he is reacting this way.

My dog is overweight, too, and since he has problems with his legs, the vet wants us to try to help him lose weight. She said to feed him small meals more often so that he will feel satisfied but to make sure we cut down on the total amount of food given per day.

So maybe that would work with your cat - smaller meals, more often. Worth a try, right?

Relaxing..my regular days off are Wed, Thu, and Fri...
so luck out this year!

Bake like a regular potato
They are good if you make them just like a regular baked potato too and just add butter, salt, and pepper. My husband also grilled them in foil this summer with butter and just a touch of brown sugar and they were great. I do not like the canned, fresh are MUCH better and less sweet from the start. I also saw a recipe for sweet potato chips in the oven. I haven't tried it yet and can't remember where I found the recipe but I'm sure you can Google it.
So you do regular maintenance on the computer..sm
Such as check for Windows updates, deleting your cookies and browsing history, scanning for errors, and defragmenting? If you need help with any of this let me know. I can give you instructions on it. I have Windows XP so that is the version I know about. I don't know about other versions. These things really make a difference.
Dizzy regular - did you find out what's wrong?? (nm)

How about regular old-fashioned wax furniture polish? sm
Beware, Kitty might skid on that towel and dig in with her claws to steady herself.

It's very nice of you to be kitty sitting!

Meant : Do you do regular maintenance not "So"

I get mine from a regular grocery store

What you want to buy is a "city" ham, not a "country" ham. City hams have less salt. Smithfield hams are good. I've also tried Cooks' and Hatfield. Don't know if they sell those in your part of the country.

I get a catalog called Burger's Smokehouse and those hams look absolutely fantastic. I would love to order from there but I'm strapped for cash right now.

The past 2 years, we have gotten a 1/2 pig from a local butcher. DH loves them. I'm not crazy about them.

The only show I watch on a regular basis
is Grey's Anatomy - could NOT live without it!! Really, that's the only TV I watch too. I catch glimpses of other shows as I'm walking through the living room but have too much to do to just sit there.

She's a regular on Court TV and has a show on Headline News
I'm not a huge Nancy Grace fan, but I do appreciate her spunk! She is an advid advocate for the prosecution. When she was young, teens or early 20s?, her fiance was killed in front of her in a convenience store. After that she became a prosecuting attorney and then got a gig on CTV.

She's very, very pro-prosecution to the point of when the person is arrested, they are guilty according to her. Many times they are guilty, but she just takes it a little too far IMO.

She also never forgets the victim, who sometimes gets lost in the shuffle, and for that I do admire her.

Anyhow, she has a replacement tonight if you happen to be watching.
My husband is drug tested on a regular basis
for his job, just took 1 yesterday. It can be at any time, when he is arriving or leaving work and being as he has a responsible job, I am totally all for it as he is.
Well, this would become regular open angle glaucoma if it progresses to that which
it certainly may.  I am not fond of thinking of using eyedrops with all their side effects.
