hot flashes...sm

Posted By: red on 2008-04-27
In Reply to: What happens/what do you feel like when you are having - a hot flash?

I can feel my hot flashes coming...it usually starts in my face, then my head gets very hot, my head starts perspiring and then the flash works it's way down the rest of my body.  I have not found relief in anything except taking a very cold bottle of water and holding it on my neck for awhile.  I have had my flashes for approximately seven years.  I wish you the best and a speedy journey through these hot flashes!

hot flashes
I am going through menopause too (just turned 50) and the hot flashes were driving me nuts - about every half hour or so and wasn't sleeping. I did some research on the 'Net because I can't take HRT and found a lot of good things being said about Estroven. About 2 months ago I started taking Estroven Maximum Strength and now I only get about 1 hot flash a day!! Yippee! They also came out with Estroven PM which I tried and I slept like a baby. It's all natural. Plus you can get a $3 coupon online if you Google the website. Hope you feel better soon.
I'm 45 and get COLD flashes!
While I'm glad I'm not suffering from hot flashes, I'm amazed at this cold business. It was 85 the other day, and I actually had a sweater on! My doc is sending me for thyroid studies, but she said that she's seen this happen occasionally, too. My mom and maternal grandmother also never suffered from hot flashes, but often complained of cold flashes. Go figure.
Controlling hot flashes?

What do you take to control the hot flashes?  The flashes are getting worse and coming on more often.  With the hot weather now I'm going into heat overdrive.  Any suggestions?  No, I haven't talked to my PMD about hormone replacement therapy but am just about ready to.

floaters and flashes
I have both in my left eye from having severe uvitis iritis years ago. My ophthalmologist told me I will probably have retnal detachment in the future and said it looks like someone closing a curtain over your eye. Scared me!
I take clonidine at night for hot flashes - (sm)
I was prescribed clonidine by my doc last year for hot flashes. I take one-half of a 0.1 mg at night only, and it has controlled the night-time hot flashes.

One can only use clonidine for hot flashes if blood pressure allows. My blood pressure is usually low in the a.m. (100/60).

I am not on HRT at this time.

To control hot flashes during the day, I try to remain as "calm" as possible no matter what situation I face, to drink cool water, and to wear the least clothing as possible.

I suffer from severe hot flashes that have been going on now for s/m
several years. I know hormone replacement therapy is very dangerous. I am about crazy with them as they have come back stronger than ever, every several minutes. This is life altering and I am not sleeping because of constant waking up all night long. I tried black cohosh some years ago at the suggestion of my gynecologist which in the beginning worked like a charm. Then I noticed it actually made them worse and more frequent, timing them to every 15 minues. Can someone please help with some suggestions that would actually help get back to somewhat of a normal life and sleeping pattern.   Thanks in advance!
How long are my hot flashes going to last? Driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!
