i took accutane in my teens and the doctor was very specific in telling my mother to watch for side effects - most importantly suicide and depression. i briefly skimmed over your post below but do not have time to read it in detail. it may be worth discussing with your sons doctor or leaving a message for him.

Accutane question
I posted below but this was not in the original post. Do you think there is any connection between accutane and depression/suicide? I am just looking for any answer at this point to my problem below.
My son was on Accutane a few years ago
He was over 18, so he made the decision himself, but he was wise enough to bring us into the decision and asked us to meet with the doctor as well. We were definitely counseled about the possibility of depression and were told to watch for signs of depression. My son was 19 at the time, and he never suffered any depressive symptoms, but the link between the drug and depression seemed very serious to us.
