I know exactly what you mean. We're all there. I like the residents that can't pronounce the big words or the medicines. Or the ones that say "oh, you know what I mean". Do I? Probably but am I allowed to make you sound intelligent or am I supposed to type what you say?

And, I always like when they say "I am seeing this patient on October 24, 1944." Am I in an episode of Quantum Leap?

And, finally, I like when they dictate that "this man has refused a pelvic". Ya think?

    Need some light and laughter.
You know, I have been reading the gab board all weekend and into today and there have been a lot of depressing posts and help needed everywhere. I got to thinking today that lots of things are going wrong this Christmas and maybe we need to reflect on our own lives. I have felt sad and sorry for all the posts I have read.

Mine may seem trivial, but after today's soul searching and reading of the boards, it hit me hard. I am an animal lover. I have 3 indoor cats and have been taking care of a feral cat clan, helping out a local feral cat society. It is a long story but I kind of fell into it. I was taking care of 9 outdoor cats, males mostly with 1 adult female and 2 female kittens (I got them spayed). Well, tonight we found one of the feral cats was hit by a car near our driveway. It hit me hard, even though she *technically* wasn't mine. We named her Momma (original, huh) because she was the mom to all of the kittens over the years. She was a beautiful cat and a terrific mother. She never let me pet her but appreciated me and my time taking care of her kittens. I only regret not taking a picture of her. She was gray with green eyes. My husband buried her in our yard as we were the only family she really knew. My heart goes out to the strays, and it hurts me to know she never really was loved on this earth except by me. I just wanted to post this to have other people send thoughts her way and just think of a cold feral cat in need of love. I will never forget her.

I know it seems petty compared to all of the other issues brought up on this board and don't want to be a *Debbie downer*. I really did want everyone to think of her and a lonely animal in their life whom they could touch and take care of.

    Thanks for reading :(

Kids are great. They can bring tears of laughter and sadness
with a blink of the eye.  Glad he is okay!
Sharing laughter, but giving each other some space and "me" time, doing little things

Thanks, the medicine you talk about
was also mentioned by the veterinarian but I gave
Ms. Thang her medicine (2 capsules 2x day) this morning - she also has some type of infection going on- and she did good with the oral route. I hope soon she will be on the way to recovery as far as the thyroid but like your kitty, she is an older cat but still my loved one.
Might ask if they believe in alternative medicine and the
    s
I have it in my medicine cabinet
and it's been there for months.. Paid $90 for it and though there are some success stories, after reading the side effects and researching it a bit on the internet, I've decided NOT to take it.
But if 1 medicine does not work, what do you do?
Hello, you try another 1, right?
This medicine is not OTC, rather it costs
1300.00 per month! Can you believe that? It is for HIV so it is something she really needs to get. My pharmacist told me Medicaid might be able to pick up what her insurance co does not pay (they will pay 400) so actually the cost per month is a whopping 1700. My pharmacist also told her to push hard while speaking with her own ins place that they should cover the cost. Maybe she just was not forceful enough. Bottom line, I was just seeing if others faced similar situation.
    Heh. Try military medicine

My husband woke up with RUQ pain, which got progressively worse.  I took him to the navy hospital ER.  They said he had a GI bug and told him to go home, drink fluids, yada yada yada.

We got about 10 minutes from the hospital when he started kicking and punching the inside of my car because of his pain.  I knew immediately what it was because I had seen both my dad and uncle go thru it.

I flew back to the hospital and drove up to the ambulance dock, which was closer to the ER.  He was telling me not to park there - he'd get into trouble.  I told him I didn't give a rat's behind, that he was sick and that's where he was going.  There were 2 guys sitting in the ambulance who helped him into the waiting room while I parked the car.

We sat in the waiting room for a couple of hours.  They finally called him back.  Every so often, the corpsman came out and gave me an update.  I finally, almost rudely, asked him if they considered doing an IVP or a cystoscopy because of the location and severity of the pain?  He looked at me and mumbled something about them thinking about doing an IVP.  Anyway, he had a massive kidney stone.  So, they sent him home (this was on a Friday) with Tylox (Percocet equivalent).  He threw up all weekend and we thought it was due to the narcotics.  I didn't know better.  Narcotics had made me throw up before too.

I rushed him back Monday morning and he was admitted immediately.  He was septic and close to septic shock.  The uro doc said his ureters looked like tissue paper and they had to place stents in both of them.  Then, he finally gets discharged with a stent in his bladder, that was kept open, so he constantly dribbled urine.  One or two days later, I heard a loud moan.  He walked out of the bathroom with the stent in his hand.  They hadn't placed it right.

Anyone still want government run healthcare?

I tried a weight loss medicine before, OMG
you have to be really careful, not a good scene with what I tried- just put on the market as over the counter, starts with X I think, years ago but if you eat anything fatty- anything you have orange diarrhea running down your legs. Not a pretty sight but that is what happened in my case - needless to say, did not take that very long, no notice, just there when you least expect it....
Like you, the strong medicine they gave just does not do
it at all. Oh, he also ordered an injection of cortisone today so who knows? I told him the hard stuff did not work and did not need anything for pain, wanted to find out what was causing my pain and after the trigger points told me definitely my problem. I have gone to a pain clinic close by before and would do that again, returning in 2 weeks to this particular clinic and by then should have started the water aerobics and will ask about the pain clinic. I told hubby tonight the pain there all the time, sometimes excrucating and other times just the all over the body pain like mine is today. Gosh, you would not wish this on your worst enemy, would you? Good luck to you also.
    Hair loss due to medicine
I wanted to post this here as I would think not everyone reads the immunosuppressant post and I think this is really important for others to know. I have hypothyroidism and had been on Synthroid for years, steadily losing hair, tried all kinds of things, nothing working. Read here some others talking about the possible connection of Synthroid and hair loss. Readers, believe me when I say I went to my physician, told him did not want to take any more and wanted Armour. My hair has grown tremendously just over the last month, I am really, really excited and want to thank each who told me a big thanks and a hug. If you have hair loss and are taking Synthroid, please do not hesitate to ask for a change.
Not buying any more doggie medicine
where she gets the medicine it is twice what I can get here in my town. i asked my veterinarian and ordered it one time for them (and paid that time) but have not paid since. I was asking hubs about picking it up and sending it as I doubt very seriously my veterinarian office would mail to her out of town. Guess I will not do that now- not trying to enable as she would pay for it.
And totally agree with you, not a new medicine
because I took several years ago, same nasty. People might think new drug but truly not. Being as you can get fat from lots of things, the accidents can be really bad.
Dennis Quaid's children in medicine mix up sm
Dennis Quaid's newborn twins are fighting for their lives after being inadvertently overdosed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Sources tell us the twins -- Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace -- were accidentally given a massive dose of Heparin, an anti-coagulant. Babies typically get 10 units. Our sources says they were each mistakenly given 10,000 units. The drug is used to flush out IV lines and prevent blood clots. We're told one dose was given on Sunday morning, another on Sunday evening.

We're told late Sunday night, both babies started to "bleed out." Both babies are now at Cedars in the neo-natal intensive care unit where we're told they are stable.

The twins were born to Quaid and wife Kimberly Buffington November 8 via surrogate.

A rep for Quaid did not immediately return our call for comment and there was no immediate comment from Cedars.

We're told a technician stored the Heparin in the wrong place, and when a nurse grabbed the medicine for the babies without looking -- it was the wrong dosage.

A source says the babies are now being given Protamine, which reverses the effects of Heparin.

UPDATE: We're told as many as thirteen patients at Cedars were mistakenly given the overdose of Heparin, but the effects are more critical because of the age and weight of the twins.

    Story developing ...

I just gave an attorney a dose of their own medicine....sm
A good friend of mine is a general surgeon, and when his secretary is on vacation they forward the phones to me to answer.  His attorney has the usual attorney mentality of charging my friend for phone time each time he calls and asks about a legal issue, yet he doesn't hesitate to call my surgeon friend and want free advice about a potential medical malpractice case or auto injury case.  I got my surgeon friend convinced that we needed to put a stop to this. Sure enough, the attorney called a while ago and I asked him if he was calling in regards to anything my friend had him working on. He said no - that he wanted to just bounce a potential case off of him.  I told him that there would be a consulting fee of $200 an hour for the surgeon's time.  My surgeon friend was in the office and was cracking up as I gave the attorney the message.  The attorney asked me why he was going to charge him - and I told him that it was because he always charges the surgeon for his time!   He decided he didn't want to pay.
Hair loss and hypothyroidism, have you ever switched medicine
from say Synthroid to Armour. I am having very severe hair loss and going this afternoon to see my endocrinologist to see about a change as what I have been reading on Synthroid is not that good with the hair loss. Tell me what you have done. Thanks
