Aside from a learning disability, if they don't

I should add...happy when I am learning something new though (sm)
I have noticed over the years that I seem to be happy with my job for about 3 months, and then as soon as I start to feel comfortable and not learning a lot of new stuff, I get restless and bored. I think I would enjoy a job being, say a walking mail carrier or something like that LOL!
Do you REALLY think they aren't learning the
SF has one of the best school systems in the country.

As for 'separation of church and state', what makes you think this will be a religious ceremony? It may be nondominational.

I just can't believe the things I'm reading here this morning. It's really sad.
child's learning
Thanks to all of you for your helpful and inspiring replies. We had a long family talk last night while our little sweetie was out with other relatives, and her mom has finally agreed to have her see a team of specialists in a larger city next month, thank goodness!
Great learning site sm
I just wanted to share this site my daughter found the other day that helps kids with geography (US and world). They also have medical terminology on there and a bunch of other subjects. It's quite relaxing and more educational than playing games online.

Has anyone used Sylvan Learning Center for tutoring? sm
If so, did you find that it helped your child and did they meet your expectations?
Children are not learning to deal with stuff.
This is what I feel. Not that we should not be compassionate when little Johnny does make the team or little Sally does get a date to prom, but they have to learn that there are bigger things in life. They should learn at a young age how to give to others. Giving and doing for others less fortunate will always makes you feel better about your situation IMO. Sure, there will be those with mental defects or what have you, but these kids may not have done some of these terrible things if they had been shown some love and compassion as children, and learned to care for others other than themselves. We should stop letting the media and entertainment world raise our children.
I got a good learning to cook story.......sm
When my DD was I think 11, she and my niece (12) were babysitting for me for a few hours. I was on my way home and told her to get the frozen lasagna out of the freezer and put it in the oven. I said it is very simple, directions are on the box. I get home and open the oven to check on the lasagna and there is the lasagna cooking in the BOX AND ALL!! Directions said to "poke holes in the top" which she did in the top of the box that is and never removed it from the BOX! So here was my lasagna baking in the oven still in the cardboard box container covered in holes! I literally wet my pants laughing so hard. She has NEVER lived that one down as we love to tell that story. She said well it never said to take it out of the box, lol.
Does anyone with a learning disabled child home school them? sm

If so, how did you go about figuring out how to teach them?

Our daughter was in public school but we moved her to a private school at the first of the year because she was very behind in the public school and they refused to give her extra services.  Since moving her to the private school we have found out that she does have learning disabilities, which means that she would need to return to the public school since the private school doesn't have special education services available.  She has learned a lot while in the private school because of the small class size and a teacher that spends a lot of time with her and we know that she has learned much more than she would have if she had stayed in the public school.

Now the public school is wanting her to repeat the grade when she returns there in the fall.  Yes, the very same public school that refused to help us before and actually blew off my questioning if she had learning disabilities now only has a "repeat the grade" attitude.  The problem I have with that is that she has proven on testing done at Sylvan learning center that she is academically half way into her current grade, so if she repeats the grade she will be bored for half of the year because she knows that material.

Therefore we're considering home schooling but don't know how effective this might be with her learning disabilities.  Does anyone else do this?  How did you find out about the techniques you needed to teach your child so that they could learn?  We know that she has an average IQ so that's not a problem - it's just getting her brain to process the information correctly.

Thank you.

Hilarious/scary Chinese-->English Learning Aid...sm

Since language is "our thing" - and particularly ESL - I thought you'd like to get a head start on what to expect from future Chinese dictators.  Get a load of these Chinese-to-English learning blocks (I'll post this as an URL you can paste into your browser since some are reluctant to click on links):

I suggest we practice by forming sentences, such as:  "The patient is a construction worker who was operating a navvy when a crustacea flew into the cab.  Mistaking it for a darning needle, he swatted at the crustacea and lost control of the navvy, which crashed.  Unfortunately, he was not wearing a safety armet at the time and was knocked unconscious..."
