recycle, renew, reuse

Have you been to a landfill recently?

I've been recycling for quite a while.  Washed the cans, glass jars and we had to separate the different colors of glass, plastics, newspaper went in one pile, corrugated cardboard in another, aluminum cans were 5 cents a piece.  Moved from NY where it was mandatory and you got fines for putting the wrong things out on the wrong days or mixing up garbage....they wouldn't even take it!

When we moved here to a small town in KY my sons were 10 and 12 years old and were horrified....came in and said "Mommy, the people next door are putting the all the garbage in one can!...You're not supposed to do that!"  They didn't know any different....they'd been doing it since they were little.  Back then I actually crossed state lines into TN bkz they at least had a bins set up at a grocery store to accept recyclables.

Moved to a very rural setting where folks actually burned all types of garbage.....tires smell the worst....and we have to breathe that air.  I've seen so much garbage thrown into sinkholes and creeks.....and we've gotta drink that water.

Now the little town/county in KY has a voluntary recycling program with a coupla bins set up.  It's still about 25 years behind the times, but it's better than nothing.

Can you renew on line?

I just learned that even here in podunk Maine, we can renew on line so long as the last time we had our picture taken it was done in digital format.  Since mine was only 4 years ago, it was!  I was stoked to say the least.  I just logged in to the registry site, punched in my license number, paid with my bank card, and got my new license in the mail in about a week!  Same picture as 4 years ago, which is fine by me, and I'm good to go for another 4 years (or maybe it's 6 now...I've forgotten already).  Far less traumatic if it's available to you.  Or maybe it is and you just like the masochistic punishment of going to the DMV.

recycle
I guess it all depends on the rules. Where I live no rules. Don't need to wash anything or keep it separate. We just throw it all in one bin. I think it is worth a shot. I don't agree that the government is getting involved. I live in NJ where the gov and state seem to get involved in way too much here so I totally understand. I have to say I honestly do not recycle everything that can be.
Anybody recycle? I want to start, but

I am wondering about what I am going to put in the liner of my trash can.  I realize almost everything is recycleable, but there is bound to be some left over and I don't want to wrap it all up in a big plastic bag.  Any suggestions?

I saw some of the saddest footage today.  I've always heard save the planet and all that, but I am a real animal lover and knowing what it does to them is what really got to me.

Just called the ASPCA yesterday to renew my membership
I was with them several months ago but changed banks. I appreciate the work they do with the animals and commend them and glad to be a part of their work.
