I understand where you're coming from and its hard not to take it personally. I helped raise 2 stepsons from ages 6 and 8 to their 20s. They lived with us. Then 10 years ago their dad and I got divorced. I got a very nice card from the youngest one the first Christmas. For a few years I sent them presents on their birthday with no acknowledgement whether they received them or not so I quit doing it. I never heard a word from them again. I know the youngest graduated college and got married, but I never heard a word except a note from their father telling me he was getting married again. Its like I disappeared from the face of the earth as far as they were concerned. Soon after the divorce I moved about 1-1/2 hours away. My ex got remarried about a year after the divorce (someone he worked with, but that's another story). It still hurts my feelings to this day.
