Hi Everyone - this is Donna Littrell.  The ATA is legitimate.  We are in no way, shape, or form affiliated with the AHDI.  Our philosophies are completely different.
I have owned my own transcription company for 23 years. I am based in Pennsylvania. I did not feel as if there was true representation for transcriptionists and waited for someone to get an association like the ATA started, but it never happened. So I thought I'd try it to see where it went and if we could make a difference. We have received such a positive response that it's been overwhelming. We have a wonderful advisory board consisting of 11 of our members (we currently have 540 +/- members) who come from a variety of transcription backgrounds. Our unified goal is to better the transcription industry, fight for things that are important to our members, and promote our domestic transcription industry. No off-shoring allowed.
I have seen a question about transcriptionists that work for companies who offshore. If you are a US citizen you can join the ATA. We will not allow member "companies" who off-shore. Transcriptionists unfortunately have no control over what their company does. We do plan to have a listing of member companies who do not off-shore so we can match transcriptionists with companies that share the same philosophies.
I hope this answers some questions. Please feel free to email me or give me a call if you have any others.
