Actually its more like

If you just do a standard calculation of:

$13,000 divided by 52 weeks = $250

$250 divided by 40 hours = $6.25

Now of course someone will jump in and say that newbie MTs work more than 40 hours a week to get their lines in and I don't doubt that.  I also think $13,000 is a bit low.

My thoughts on the calculation of newbie wages are these:  Say you work for a company that requires at least 10,000 lines per pay period at $0.07 per line.  That is $350/week.  As a newbie, you can type say, 120lph.  That's 83.33333 hours per pay period.  Lets just call it 84 hours, so 42 hours per week.  $350/42 hours = $8.33/hr.

Back to the annual salary - $700 per pay period times 26 pay periods equals $18,200.

That is of course before Uncle Sam gets his piece of your pie.  Overall newbie pay is not great but it also really depends on where you live how bad you would consider it.

I know there are many more variables than that, such as typing speed, incentive pays, the whole issue of paying for spaces, pay per line differences, what constitutes full time, etc.....
