Another thing you might try, is reinstalling the driver for your USB port. SM

If you right click on your "My Computer" icon, click "Properties", then click on the "Hardware" tab.  Then click on the "Device Manager" button.  You'll see a list of all your hardware devices.  Find your USB devices and double click.  You'll see the button for reinstalling the driver.  Go from there and follow the steps.

removing, reinstalling EditScript
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling EditScript numerous times, but still have the same problem.
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling your pedal software? Sometimes it not enough to

do a "repair."  You have to completely remove it, reboot your PC, and then start from scratch.

Also, is your dog all right?  I wondering if the poor thing was electrocuted?  My cat chewed on the cord to my head set.  Thankfully, didn't chew all the way through, but took the plastic off, exposing some wires.  My husband patched it up with some electrical tape and it's working so far, but I think I'm going to be buying a new headset!

Those darn pets!  They're as bad as the kids wanting mommy's attention!

Good Luck!

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Like completely off your computer...(inside)
then reinstalling it. I have worked on so many different programs, not yours, but never have I not been able to use Shorthand. It just does not interfere with programs. something is stopping it. Maybe you need to have your company reinstall their program, then install ShortHand again. It is just impossible for it not to work.
Zip Driver

You may try downloading new drivers for your zip drive. Sometimes when the driver goes bad it will generate that error.

Also you can do a search on the specific error you are getting.

Here is a copy of links I found. Hope they help.

the last one is the company that makes the zip drives.

A 16-YO driver

I just want opinions here...

My DD's best friend is 16...she got her license in July.  The BF has a 17-month-old brother that her mom allows her to drive around...I don't mean just around where we live, I mean on the highway...a very busy, main, 4 lane highway...

My question is, do y'all agree or disagree with this?  Do you think it's really, really dangerous and just too much of a risk to let this girl drive her baby brother around?

It's probably pretty apparent that I think it is absolutely crazy! It scares me so much when I know they are out running around in her car.  Is it just me or do y'all feel this way?

My dog has a driver's license. sm
He loves to chase cars, but the high gas prices have forced him to get a job so he can continue.
got cut off....2 different driver's licenses...
Really, I don't want to *judge* anyone's life - judge not lest ye be judged.....and all that....plus it's a rarity to find a *jury of one's peers* in this life (my opinion only)
Do you know where to find the driver for it? nm

Might be a driver problem, too. nm

They DON'T need you driver's license number.
Do not give anyone that number ever. Be smart with your private information. Never put your driver's license or SS# somewhere just because they have a line for it and that includes the doctor's office.
maybe corrupt print driver?

Hi,

If you are starting the fax process by printing to a fax printer, then chances are good the print driver has gotten corrupted. (Common with all print drivers.)

If this is the case, then (1) delete the fax-print driver from Control Panel | Printers and Faxes, and then (2) reinstall the print driver.

After install, send a test fax (not a real transcription) to see if the problem has been fixed.

I am a sub bus driver and make $15 an hour - sm
doing that, though I never know when I am working, waiting on a route....when that happens I will bring home about $1200 a month which will be nice on top of any MT work I do (still plan to do this but cut back some when I do finally get a route). So for now $60 for working 4 hours subbing for another driver, I can live with. Makes my life a little easier.
MT vs Bus driver? Give me a break

For heaven's sakes.  Did it ever occur to you that if you can't decide, however rhetorically, whether to be an MT or drive a bus that you don't belong in this profession?

I'm SO TIRED OF LISTENING TO MTs complain.  If you don't have a passion for what you do, here's a tip:  DO SOMETHING ELSE!

You don't develop a passion for something just because it pays enough!  There are a lot of facets to passion.  And if you're doing something you don't have a passion for you're wasting your life.

Why is the fact that you're not making enough money or you're underappreciated SOMEBODY ELSE'S FAULT!  It's YOUR fault.

Dimwit post regarding drunk driver
If nothing else, that should tell you what effects bad decisions have. If you read my post you would have gotten that I suffered but more importantly, my children did. Belive me, I'm not bitter. I am sorry that my children had to live without a father, but I am grateful that they learned about alcohol and loss of control. As for me, I supported my children very well, and we survived as a family and no one had to hang their head. I'm extremely grafteful that no innocent person was killed. And yes, I thought I could change an alcoholic. Bad choice. I'm willing to accept my bad choices, what's YOUR excuse for bad manners and you are also a DIMWit who probably "teaches" her children the right way to drink. What an assine post you put on the board. Anyone who has had a loved one killed by someone else's bad choice probably wouldn't appreciate your post, but I do. I appreciate the fact that you need help.
I'd think it would be long-haul truck driver or
long haul truck driver, depending on account specs and whether or not they use hyphens.
My boyfriend who is a school bus driver now makes more than me...
by $1.00 an hour. Only because they have a union, I guess, because the trend now would be to make them slave labor, as well....but their union holds on by a thread...

I have been an MT for over 14 years, started in the hospitals making what I make now, and am now working for a company (top of the line in the business) who says to stay competitive the MT pay has been cut. I was told to work more hours to make up the difference.

This is no longer a profession, and I think if we are suddenly required to be certified (which the AAMT is pushing very hard), I would highly contest this as I no longer consider myself a professional. We get paid only per line, lose our health benefits, if we do not work a required amount of hours, and are treated as laborers, not professionals.

Does anyone know, if any other 'professions' require certification for nonhourly positions, no guaranteed work, and no real long-term job security...

For myself, I can barely pay my rent now, there is no way I could afford a certification.

In other words, I would be expected to act as a professional, but would never ever be treated as one. I mean, what would WE get out of it?

Does anyone care anymore about people. When I first started working at 14, every job I ever had employees were always treated like they mattered...and were the heart of the job, the old 'we are nothing without the employees' - that is all thrown out like trash now and the mantra is we are nothing, we do not matter, we can be replaced, shut up and just do your work, your paycheck is your reward. What a bunch of crap and what a way to keep people down.

I was in shock when I saw my paycheck, and my boyfriend is making a whole dollar more an hour than I am...and that was a good, full 2 weeks of work for me, with the most lines I have typed since being with this company.

Can you imagine...
Well it said there are no drivers or anything else and I have no idea about loading a driver.
It works fine in DQS so I dont know about this.  I guess I will just forget the job because it is a very long test and to do it with key controls is horrible.
Did you load the correct driver for the printer from the CD?

You are right. I never thought about only 1 port. sm
My tower has 2 in the front and 4 in the back. Could the USB ports maybe be under a cover of some sort. Kind of like the little rubber things on a digital camera where you plug in your USB cable?
A breast exam is mandatory for a driver's license??
I cannot imagine a state where it is mandatory for a young girl getting a driver's license to have a breast exam. That just sounds, as does the pressuring you state by the doctor for the cervical cancer shot, so farfetched to me that it is completely unbelievable. I read very well, thank you and am unbelieving of most of what you have posted. Sounds like not only are you stressed but you have some mania going on there.

I have relatives in Port St. Lucie and....sm

they used to live in Miami, but lost everything to Hurricaine Andrew.   Now that they're in Port St. Lucie they have learned from the "Andrew" mistakes and for Wilma made sure they had plenty of food, water and gas for the generator that they bought.  They knew they should have gone to a shelter but during Andrew the official shelter they were in had its roof blown off and they sat there wet and cold for hours until the storm blew over and decided to not do that route again.  They knew with Wilma that they risked having their home destroyed while in it but made that choice.

They did sustain damage to the house with Wilma but aren't waiting and insisting that the government bail them out.  They had already talked to a contractor before the storm and had him lined up and ready to come out after the storm was over so they didn't have to wait on long waiting lists.  These aren't rich people - my aunt is a retired school teacher and my uncle has been disabled for many years.   They're just smart enough to realize that if you live in an area that is prone to severe storms that you have to be prepared or not whine and expect the government to bail you out.

The people in Louisiana knew days ahead of time that they should get out of town and they didn't.  It didn't help that the Mayor there basically blew the situation off until after the fact and  then decided the federal goverment should have done what he should have done in the beginning - made arrangements for people to get the heck away from there if they didn't have travel means. Instead he transported people to shelters that were right in the midst of the storm and then cried to the world that the government purposefully caused people to die.  Gimme a break.  IF anyone is guilty of that it's him because he didn't take the appropriate actions which were even outlined in the  New Orleans  City official disaster plan.

Living in Georgia  and in a "tornado alley" part of the state I know my odds are that my house could get demolished by a twister.  When a severe storm arises I high-tail it to the basement.  Since we also get remnants of hurricaines at times, ice storms, etc. I always have enough food and water to last for several days in the basement, along with plenty of candles and batteries.  I also have lots of  logs for the fire place to cover winter storms.

You don't have to be rich to prepare for a disaster.... just smart about it and plan ahead of time.  If you live in a  coastal state then buy that hurricaine insurance and don't whimper that we need to buy you a new house if you don't have insurance and your home gets destroyed.  I have homeowner's insurance but if my house were to burn down and I didn't have insurance would it be the government's responsibility to build me a new one?  No.

OMG!!! I'm in the Northeast too - Port Richmond!

USB port. Is there a way to convert the files?

I just do them as they come in.  I must have 20 different ways to download audio files on my computer, but I don't know how to convert audio files from one program to another

Heck, I have to ask my 11-year-old to get the DVD player to work.

Getting ooooold I guess.  I'm like my parents who used to put a piece of black electrical tape over the flashing clock on the VCR because they didn't know how to reset it until the 7-year-old granddaughter came over and fixed it for them.

Pedals usually last for years. Try it in another USB port if that's what it uses. nm

un- attached chest port?

My son has a chest port.  He can lift up three corners of the port, make a pocket out of loose skin and slid his thumb under the port.  He says the port is supposed to float freely within a tissue pocket created in his chest.  It is his belief the port is Not sutured to anything inside him, like, say, the chest wall for example.  Hmmmm! I am seeking outside opinions as he and I disagree.  Please let me know what you think.

is it a game port adapter?
If it is, you may have to click on "gameport" on Express Scribe
Does anyone use a game port pedal and use
I am considering employment with a company that uses a pedal for the audio that may require a sound card be installed on my PC.  I currently use a USB wav pedal to receive dictation that are dss files, wav, etc.  Does anyone know if I can install the sound card and still use the USB wav pedal or would that take a lot of tinkering back and forth.  I am considering Zylomed, and I think they use MT World.  Would anyone be able to offer any information regarding this type of situation?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
foot pedal COM port
If you have not gotten help with this, why not call your tech support line.

You wrote Start-Stop. Is this the patented HTH Engineering StartStop foot pedal and software? They have a toll-free line.

If it's not and you want to call me, you may.
Did you select the right port under options? sm
In the Bytescribe, look under ports and select USB (assuming that is what you converted to).
I will check out the port. As for the Bytescribe - sm
It did not give me an option, probably because I was re-installing from copying it from another computer. Says I have used up all my installs, so I need to call them and get a code, though the player did still work, just not with the pedal. My other program wouldn't work either. I will check out the port this morning and see, otherwise returning cable and buying a 9-pin card; at least then I know everything will work (otherwise computer being returned...have 3 weeks to do so, don't want to though, it is very nice).
A breast exam is required for a driver's permit in your state?
--some pervert state senator would dream up. What state do you live in? THAT I would be angry about.
What state requires a breast exam for a driver's license?!?!
nm
Does anyone know if you have a foot pedal for a USB port if you can convert it somehow to a 9 pin
port or must you buy another foot pedal. Anyone ever had trouble with foot pedal compatability with using their own computer.
WAV pedal/serial port question.
I work for an MTSO  that uses a pedal with a serial plug, and my lap top does not have a serial port, so  have plugged it into a USB adapter. The dictation is coming across has somewhat "hesitant"--there are pauses at times and I really have to bash the pedal to get it going again (the pedal works just fine if I use it on the MTSO's computer, which I don't want to keep doing--I need to be portable with my lap top). The tech people haven't been too motivated to help; I can only use my own computer if I don't require tech support, though I'm told many people do it successfully.

Anyway, bottom line, the adapter is showing up in Com-Port 4, and the tech says it needs to be in 1, though I can't get any further advise. When the adapter is plugged in, the MTSO's software shows a drop down menu for ComPort 3 or 4; there is no 1.  Any suggestions from any of you tech geniuses out there?? Oh, I also have a USB pedal from another service, but that is showing up in ComPort 3 and won't work at all.
Look under Settings, I think. Your pedal might be in the wrong port. nm
s
she said that the usb port worked with her printer, but not any pedals.
not the driver, then. it is not the port that is the problem. :^)
You may have to change the port setting for the footpedal.
Under Settings, Control tab. Try different ones to see if you can find one that will work with your pedal.
Just stick it in a USB port. Use it just like a floppy disk.

Start/Stop Com Port settings
Have you played with the Com port setting under the Configure button? I have had to try mine in all 8 until I found the right one.
To determine what kind of port the footpedal
has, look at it. If the wire at the end is flat, then it is a USB. If it is round and has 9 little holes, then it is a serial port.

The newest computers have in the back a USB- and a serial-port. If you have only the USB port and the footpedal has a serial, then you have to buy an adapter and vice versa.
In addition you have then to access your footpedal setting in the computer and set them right:

Click control panel/footswitch setting and choose the right port, USB or serial.
Shop for a "USB to game port adapter".
Staples, Radio Shack or Office Max should have them.  ebay should have them.  If not, Google for a seller.
Get a game port/USB adapter from Radio Shack - This will at
problem. I am sorry you are having trouble. I love my Dell, but use serial port (9-pin) for my work. Have used the game port adapter at a previous job without a problem though.
Maybe you need it listed in a different port or as a different device? Any place to check the
s
I use an adapter, but mine is game port and not serial. I

didn't need any drivers for it to work.    Have you tried rebooting?

Then I am wrong and it is Editscript that works only with a serial port, sorry! nm
nm
I've searched and not all Dell laptops have the parallel port.
So I just wanted to check to see more specifics from those who have. Thanks.
i use a radio shack game port adapter for my 9-pin - 12 bucks
nm
Check your USB drivers. The printer works off the printer driver. The pedal needs a joystick

driver in order to work.  You have to configure your USB port for this.
