Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

As Groucho said. . .

Perhaps at $100 per year ATA membership is a bargain. . . considering AHDI membership is $135/yr. AHIMA is $165/yr -- and that's only at the national level.

As Groucho Marx once said -- I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member. . . It just irritates me that in order to be considered a legitimate "professional," I need some nameless, faceless organization to make it so. And even worse -- that it should make a difference in how I am compensated for my services. I read. I study. I research. I keep up with my profession. I have better command of technology than most of my peers. . . but unless I legitimize myself by putting a string of letters after my name, I'm considered less than bona fide professional??? Perhaps we should come up with a new "certification" and, as someone suggested -- a "volunteer" or NFP organization that could set up a new order and defend the sanctity of life of downtrodden US transcriptionists . . . :-)

(PS Once upon a time, I did write the founders of one nationwide organization. They sent me an invitation to join their club. I asked for a copy of their organizational bylaws, a copy of a financial statement, a list of their board of directors, and I wanted to know how my money was going to be spent. Not long after, my invitation to join was withdrawn.) Go figure.
