As someone who lost their husband almost 2 years ago, I can tell you that no amount of money could

ever replace my best friend and husband.  Yes, I have tried the dating thing, but to tell the truth here, it's not the same and I don't think anyone could ever replace the father my children lost at such an early age.

By the way. he had just turned 34 when he died, so I suppose you might want to give your hubby a big hug tonight for thinking of your future without him, especially when we truly do not see ourselves leaving this world so soon.

Hugs to you and yours!!!

I would not poo-poo the amount of money
the people are making doing crafts. I have just bought out of state from a lady on Etsy some plates she made. I paid $25.00 for 3 plates and $40.00 for one. I called her on the phone to put in a special order and I asked where did she sell besides Etsy. She tells me there are several events she goes to, usually selling $20 or more a day of at least $20 each and she cannot make them fast enough. The plates are very ornate, beautiful (mine at least because I like the bling and asked for such) so I think if you got enough needing your product, hey don’t think a person cannot make a good living that way. She sells on Etsy plus the events she attends and possibly other ways although we did not get into that. I love crafts and only wish I could make something as beautiful but guess I will just have to stay with what I do best, MTing.
Best battery backup with a reasonable amount of time - just lost report when elec blinked Grrrr

I think the best of MQ is over. With the horrendous amount of money going to lawyers and what it
will cost to pay these hospitals that they bilked will be millions and millions. There is no way there is going to be money made with MQ anymore without a tremendous amount of aggravation. I think they will sell out or merge. My office is closing and they told the clients either get on DQS or find another MT company so they are moving on rapidly to something and not sure what. I think they are getting their ducks in a row.
I wouldn't spend the huge amount of money--sm
required for this book. their *rules* will just change in six months anyway and they are only *guidelines* not *rules*. Alot of services do not adhere with the BOS anyway, but go with client preference. If you are in school, you should be communicating with your mentor concerning this. Every school/service is different. There is no *one way* that is correct. JMO
Money talks & the smaller the amount paid out,

Curosity- I am curious if I am making the normal amount of money weekly for MT. Would anyone care
to share their weekly amount of pay?
I lost money doing VR compared to straight
Before VR my line count was about 375 to 400 lph.  After VR, my lines were about 400 to 450 lph.  The lines produced went up slightly, but the rate in pay was decreased by 40% and the platform was so bad it took me longer to produce the 400 to 450 lines than it did straight typing.  Total loss of income was about 38% to 40% working 8 hours a day instead of 7 to 7-1/2.
I know a very large MTSO that lost a LOT of money and ended up
/
My husband makes a LOT more money than me..
It is kind of humiliating to me that I am very well educated and make PEANUTS in the MT field (so far anyway), and he makes 13.50 per hour as a janitor with full bennies, sick leave, vacation, retirement in the schools. Humiliated, but grateful!!! (See what a union can do for you?)

My MT school promised 25,000 to 90,000 per year doing MT work and, from what I am seeing on this board, that is a STRETCH of the truth for sure!
1099 ? Is the amount on the 1099 only the money paid to you in 2008. So if I did not receieve payme
than that $$ would be on my 1099 for 2009 not 2008??  I have to invoices that were due to be paid in 2008 but I never received the $$ until January of 2009.  Do I have to claim that money on my taxes this year or next???  Thanks in advance for your help.
Jeez, take your own advice for your husband/dog/kid/house/money problem. nm

Remembering those lost 4 years ago
I just wanted to take a moment to remember those lost in the planes, the WTC, and the Pentagon 4 years ago including Laurie Neira, one of our own, who MT'd for YOG.
I lost my brother 17 years ago and still cry every day.
I know it wasn't my father, but the loss is still great! I understand. The pain will never go away, it will just dull. You need to remember that you must go on and live with his memory and love in your heart! It really does get a little easier as time does heal a bit, but it will never go away.

There are times now that I can get through the day without a tear, but one song on the radio or one look into his daughter's eyes and the wells start overflowing.

I, by no means, am depressed. Actually I am a very happy person; however, that does not mean you take a minute to think about someone you have lost and shed a tear or two, wipe them away, and go on with your day and life.

Just know, he is with you and it will get better. One day you will wake up and smile just knowing he is looking down on you! Then, you will be able to start to heal and the pain won't be as great.

I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
I couldn't agree more. Lost my mom 13 years ago sm
this coming August. I miss her the most on Mother's Day.
You have been going 5 times a week for 2 years and have not lost weight? So..
it's basically more than $300/year for social hour? I've been going for 2 months faithfully and didn't lose an ounce until I went back on Atkins this week. It's nowhere near enough of a workout.
I've lost a local account today that I have had for five years......

I cannot believe that this happened to me today.  I went into one of my doctor's offices this afternoon to pick up his tape for today.   I was given a tape and told that his wife, who is the office manager, wanted to see me in her office.  I thought nothing of it because she sometimes has extra things that she wants me to type up for her and we talk quite often also.

She tells me that she just has not gotten around to talking with me yet, but  "tomorrow we will start dictating through a company over the internet".  I was blown away!  She said she wanted to give me a break and that if it does not work out she will let me know.   The whole time she was tell me this she was writing me a check as I had just turned in an invoice.

My first inclination was to throw that #@%$ tape at her and say "do it yourself", but I knew that wasn't the "professional thing" to do.  I was thinking how could she do this to me, not even a 24 hour notice.  She handed the check to me, I snatched it and walked out.

I have had this account for five years exactly (began August 1, 2000).   I have never took a day off, never raised my rates, never asked anything of them, and my work has always been the best possible quality.  I have been the most dependable person they have could had.   I have passed up other accounts because of them, and I always put them first.   Thank goodness I have other accounts to fall back on.   In our town, there is only one other transcriptionist besides myself, and we both have more work than we can handle most of the time.

Just thought I'd remind all those other MTs out there that no matter how good we are and no matter how much we try to please everyone we are still not appreciated.  I will never be fooled again.  No one will ever receive the attention from me that I gave them.

Yes, it does. My hosp is typing in MOX, we lost Word many years ago due to cost.
Good luck!
I met my husband online too - 6 years ago!
He was in England and I was here. I just got my computer (I had never been on the Internet before, believe it or not!)after my roommate had convinced me I should get one and try out surfing online. I met him in a chat room - we hit it off and spent many, many hours on the phone. He moved over a few months later, we were married 2 months after he had moved over, and the rest is history. We'll be celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary in March. Sometimes you meet weirdos, but occasionally you may get a pleasant surprise :)
I met my husband of 18 years at the beach.
I was 17 and a Junior in High School when I met the love of my life at the beach. It was wonderful - no alcohol involved and we didn't meet in a bar. We just celebrated our 18th anniversary November 14th, and have two children, a son 16 and a daughter 14.

My husband and I have been in the MT business for 10 years now (sm)
and he calls himself a medical language specialist - and actually does QA. He does not refer to himself as an MT as he does not type - unless it is a dire emergency!! I do think it is one of those businesses where the men seem to be higher up the chain of command and some don't really know what an MT does - they don't understand basic transcription skills and how anything but fingers on the keyboard takes away from their production and money earned. I often laughingly ask my DH how a man could manage a Victoria Secret if he has never personally worn a bra and knows nothing about fit/size/comfort??
Been an IC for 17 years now. Never had a problem with deductions; however, I also have a husband
and we file jointly with a schedule C. We do receive a large return, but that is because he has so much tax money taken out, because over overtime, etc. I guess I am just the lucky one with that.

My deductions come out to about 10K a year working as an IC.
Lost account of 28 years to Dictaphone because hospital believes it will eliminate all transcription
Curious if any of you are working for Dictaphone or Infomatics and doing an account out of Miami with mainly ESL dictators?  I was convinced I would not lose the account after a few days with VR. However Dictaphone is not using VR right away and will transcribe reports the regular way until they have a database. I am certain this hospital will never be done by VR. I posted a job on here about a year ago offering 18 cents per line to help with this account and not one person  accepted after hearing the ESL doctors we have. They are that bad.  Anyone else have this happen to them? Losing to Dictaphone  And we have had to do most of the work for over a month since they supposedly took over because their system is not working.
17 years, my husband's got yours beat, he's STILL crying over the Notebook!

Years ago weight issue supposedly for husband
I was trying to get some life insurance- told the man husband weighed 250 or 280, forget exactly what- was told he was overweight. The insurance man came to my house and then saw, my husband was into wrestling then and the guy said, you're not overweight, you're just big- hubby 6'4 and carried the weight extremely well (may not be the same with you and me though- I am NOT fat, just not tall enough!
Guess that means my husband is doomed....quit 15+ years ago (46 now)--GF had lung cancer
so either cancer will get him (his dad had bladder cancer, doing fine now but it did recur and lost his kidney about 10 months ago)...figure either cancer or cirrhosis will get him (drinks 8-12 "light" beers a day...for over 20+ years). So can you say semi-young widow?? (39). Naw....he will probably live forever, which is good.....lots of longevity in his family despite the cancer. Good.
made more money 15 years ago than I do now. nm.

Decent money won't be there until you've had years of practice. Maybe do
s
i don't send stuff to editing. i have been doing this for years. it's easy money and my QA r
And I got all my hair and my BP is fine.
Haven't heard in years. Supposedly making it harder to get money
xx
I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.

I doubt your brother has won more than he's lost. To win that much he's probably lost 3 times
So he probably has more bills than money. Otherwise the casinos would go broke.
Money, money, money, mmonnneyyy. Singing the Apprentice song.
:+
DH is dear husband or any number of colorful adjectives preceding husband. (no message)
;)
I totally understand but if your husband is like my husband... sm

When it comes to something like that, that I usually take care of but for whatever reason I can't, I will tell my husband exactly what to do, but when he comes back - to use your case as a "for instance" - I will ask him, "Did the doctor look at his foot?"

Him: "No."

Me: "Did you ask the doctor to look at his foot?"

Him: "No."

Me:  "I told you to have the doctor look at his foot!"

Him: (shrug)

etc., etc., etc.

Your husband may not be like that - I sure hope he isn't. And yes, they should have checked his vitals and checked his foot without being asked. But sometimes you have to be assertive with people. And while my husband attained the rank of major in the Air Force and had no trouble ordering people around, there are times when he should be assertive but isn't. And he is not intimidated by doctors - he started his AF career as an x-ray tech (that's how we met). I dunno....(Rad MT wanders off, mumbling....)

Make money? I'm not making any money because of my decision. You read my reasoning
You can agree with me or not, but don't make false assumptions please.
You're working to make money, not to spend money.
These people should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people this way!
I also blew some money signing up with Quixtar... The only way to make any money is to bug everyone

you know into signing up.  I felt like a snake oil huckster.  I hated it.  I was flushing money down the toilet from the moment I handed over my money.

RUN, do not walk away!  I do an entirely different side business now that I really love (in addition to my MTing, which I also love!)  Find something you're good at and that you truly love doing.  Then make a business out of it.  That's the best way to have a side business.  Selling discount toilet paper through Amway/Quixtar?  Not so much.

The CMT exam is overrated. Don't waste your time & money. Use that money on
paid anymore just because you have it.  There are a few CMT cheerleaders that post to people like you but they are pretty well sucked up into that association.
Yeah, money, that's it. I paid $20.00 for my dog. Money is NOT THE ISSUE
walk him daily, play ball daily, he sleeps in my office daily while I work. Yeah, I got a lot of money, NOT HARDLY. And, my dog is HORRIBLY HORRIBLY ABUSED because he wears a collar around his neck. It's people like you that make me sick. I am done defending my use of the shock collar. I am going to continue with it and my dog will continue to be pampered , educated, fed, kept warm, and love me for everything that I do for him even when I remind him that his barking needs to stop. So, with that said, I will not respond to any more of your CRAP in reference to the shock collar.
pay amount
I work for them and have for years now. What they do is basically pay how they are paid so we cannot blame them. Basically, the client takes 1/2 of the total lines for the month and pays it on the 15th of the next month and the other half on the next paycheck and so on. I have always been paid my full amount with no problems. To figure out pay, go into the transcription program and look up your lines for the month and divide them in half...very simple really. Again, they have always paid correctly and I have been with them 4.5 years now.
for me it would be the same amount of...
of Keystrokes as I use yo and then the spacebar, which would still be 3 keystrokes. From typing, it is just natural for me to hit the spacebar versus using the ";". Is this what you mean?
amount of RAM

Is there a way to tell if low RAM is slowing things down or if it is just the platform?  I have various problems (aside from several-second delays with certain things) that I think may be due to lack of RAM.

I use a lot of online and computer resources, so I probably need a lot of RAM.

Any way to tell?

wow! do you know if it was a significant amount?

And what would that amount to American?
x
that is if you EARN under a certain amount,
after that you must pay taxes on all. The goverment certainly isn't going to be left out of our money!!
If I could have made even the same amount
someone who lives near me, an ex-MQ'er, who went to work there.  She would never come back.  We worked on the same account, which MQ is losing, expected to go live there before the end of the year.  I wanted to stay with my account, of 7 years, had normals up the wazoo!
Can you rent a car for about the same amount? sm
That way you could come and go as you pleased!
I also make about that amount. sm
I have both a full-time job and a part-time job, and work about 60 hours a week. I don't do five 12-hour days. I work a normal 40-hour week, then for the part-time I scatter my hours in the evening. It works out really well for me and I average about $50,000 a year. For a long time, I was working a regular 40-hour job and only making about $27,000 a year. It's definitely worth the extra time spent. I work while the kids are in school, then I work for a couple hours after they're asleep. I have every Sunday off with them, and they're busy on Saturdays anyway while I'm working, so it works out well for us. You just have to find a schedule that will fit for you, and the most important thing is to find a company or service that will pay you what you're worth. Keep looking... they're out there...
Per page amount
I work as a general transcriptist for an insurance company and I get paid $3.00 a page no matter how long the page. In the area where I live I think $6 would be a lot of money, but if she can get it, that's a great per page amount.
Anyone can type in any amount they wish - sm
on a board like this, and claim it is their income.
