Besides, that donation is squarely out of MTs' pockets. I haven't had a raise in the 3 years

    no raise in 3 years
same here -- have you asked for one -- i did and was told that I was sending over 20% to QA - imagine that with the docs that we get -- there is no way to win at MQ and if there is would someone please let me in on the secret!!
    Two years without a raise

I have worked for this doctor for five years and have not received a pay increase for the past two years. His patient load has increased very much in the past few months. Is it OK to to type a letter requesting a pay increase? It is very difficult to get a hold of this doctor???

    no raise in 10 years....
and finally I left that company due to major issues, and lo and behold, the only place hiring was hiring at the same low rate I started with 10 years ago...their reason? They have to keep costs lower to be competitive. Unfortunately I had to take it because there is more steady work and affordable insurance. Its hopefully going to be a stepping stone to something more instead, I hope!!
Only 2 years and no raise?
I have been working at this type work now for 30+ years. Lets see, my last raise was inhouse probably in the late 80s. I would never hold my breath on getting raise. I think you are supposed to type faster- the faster you type, the more you make. Slim pickings in this particular job now.
Is no raise after 7 years acceptable?
I work as an independent contractor.  I have been with my office (had two doctors to begin with, took on a third two years ago), and I have never raised my rates.  I went in and talked to my docs about a raise today (after emailing a couple weeks ago to set up a meeting about it).  Not only did they say that's NOT happening, but the doc actually told me he expected my line count to go DOWN with the new system they are implementing.  He was upset that he had been paying me for a line count that included macros of a few paragraphs and it only took me a few key strokes to get there.  Also, they checked around and someone under-bid me for 2 cents less, so they were acting like they are doing me a favor by paying me my same line rate.  Am I crazy to be super upset about this?
No raise after 2 years, you are kidding, right?
Loads of people have not gotten a raise in they can't remember when. Two years??
she gave it up after 6 years to raise kids...nm

    You hit the nail squarely
    .
haven't done that one right in years
excuse me - Have not done that 1 right in years!!!
No! I'm 48 years old and still haven't had a new car!!!!
I don't think kids should be given a new car. That is a good place in life to teach them that they have the ability to work hard, save their money and buy anything they want. It gives them the incentive to want to make more money, which gives them the incentive to take care it (the car they finally buy) and also gives them the incentive to work hard in school/college so that they will get a very good paying job when they are finished with their college, so they can afford the expensive things they desire, like in the "real world" where everything isn't given to them.
we haven't had a tv in 9 years...
got rid of it when our kids were small and it's been w o n d e r f u l. No nameless, faceless shrieking box taking over the whole house, with its subliminal messages about happiness and new cars and happiness and thin bodies and how teenagers in the sitcoms are smarter than adults, bla, bla, bla. It's all mindless crapola if you ask me. BTW, my daughter in 4th grade reads at an 11th grade level. I think they read out of boredom LOL
About 23. Some I haven't used in years, some I

use on nearly a daily basis.  What you need depends on the type of account you work on.  If you are only doing clinic notes you can get buy with a drug book and a book like Sloane's Medical Word Book.   If you are doing acute care but only doing one speciality then again you could get by with a drug book and whatever Stedman's book for that speciality.   I don't know how people function without books.  Google is not always a reliable reference and to have to spend time googling when you can open the book and found it in 3 seconds is so much easier and productive.

Some of my books are an older edition, but unless it is a book that I need frequently I don't update with each new addition.  I'm partial to Stedman's books, as I think most MTs are.  They have specials throughout the year.  You can also buy books at half.com.  You can get a brand new book for a fraction of the cost of new, though be sure to check Stedman's website to make sure you are getting the most current edition.

I haven't had a normal in 2+ years now. (nm)

haven't been to brooklyn in years
But didn't know it was trendy at all. There are a lot of really bad parts and a few ritzy parts as I recall. Very crowded and a place not desired although I am interested in the new trend.
    I haven't be a newbie for 10 years
I am a slow typer, I am only paid 7 cpl, and have 20 different doctors on a daily basis.  I am feeling like maybe I have wasted the last 10 years as an MT.  I hear so many talk about their perfect accounts, making $100+ a day only working 8 hrs a day, and I the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I am home for my kids when they get home from school.  Where are those good accounts, good platforms, and good paying MT jobs that we experienced MTs deserve?
agree - haven't had a car payment in years
paid $6000 cash for a 93 Volvo wagon back in 2002.  Too many people think they need a new (or pricey) vehicle and really have better things to do with their $400-600 per mo. Every time I look into getting something new or simply newer, I decide that I neither want to take that much money out of savings,  nor do I want to have such an outrageous car payment.  I would totally prefer a brand new car, but it seems like such a waste of money.
I haven't missed a day of work in 10 years
I can't believe so many ICs do this, taking days off! It's unheard of to me.

I don't blame you for getting frustrated. Seems no one has a good work ethic these days.
If you haven't done MT in many years, that is a very good rate...sm
Many things have changed and companies usually require more recent experience. I say go for it!
I haven't made that kind of rate for at least 20 years
Don't know where you live. In my area, that is not good money at all.
I've been hearing this for years, haven' t you.? It gets boring.
    x
I haven't had taste or smell for over 10 years due to chemotherapy.
Sometimes that's a GOOD thing. Seriously.
    I haven't bought a drug book in 2 years - I use Google ...sm
and the FDA website. Both are faster than flipping through a book and free.
This has not always been the case, hence it hurts more. Merit raise/cost of living raise
    dd
Haven't heard in years. Supposedly making it harder to get money
    xx
    The raise you're describing is a merit-raise, - (SM)
and I agree that a worker has to go above and beyond in order to get them. But what doesn't seem to happen in this industry is COST-OF-LIVING raises, which should automatically come to workers either in small increments yearly, or in larger increments every 2-3 years. Without wages that are at least somewhat *realistic* (and modern-day MT wages are a pathetic joke), it's no wonder quality workers are harder and harder to come by, and much harder to retain. An MT should not have to work sweatshop hours for 7 days a week just to keep their head above water financially.
    to MT Pockets
I found TriEst on internet -it is an estrogen replacement. However, I do not find it in my 2006 Mosby's drug book. May be like herbal medicine.
Anyone else have holes in their pockets? It seems like I can't make enough
money anymore to keep bills paid up.  Am I the only one in this shape, sometimes it feels like it.
Who knows what frank has in mind to oppress MTs and further line his pockets.

It can't be good.  MQ has a lot of law suits pending and huge attorney fees.  They also had to become honest in their billing methods with government scrutiny.  They can also ship to India.  MQ will find a way to jerk American MTs around.  Why?  Because they can and will.

yeah, and our elected leaders are lining their pockets--sm
with our hardearned money, and making millions off the war monger toys like tanks, etc in Irag war...why do you think they don't want to stop the war...I had actually heard him say that another year of war in Iraq would produce another 1.3 million in his pocket as he owns company that produces this equipment. we suffer, and he wins, laughing all the way to the bank. geez people, open your eyes to the actual cause of all of this. He also approves off shoring for jobs, thinking it will democratize other countries. He is trying to change the world by our suffering. Keep it home, and fix our own problems before you give millions to other countries. sheesh. sorry...just venting.
Hey Pockets. Just click "CHAT now" in the upper right hand corner, and it will take you there.

     Hi,

I wish to donate $20 to this most admirable cause and I do not wish to get anything in return.  Please tell me how to donate?  E-mail me please, at the address of ksmith30@new.rr.com

    thanks

Can you either email me with the information on how to do a donation or post the info here?

    Thanks

Sheri, Just made a donation.  While the offer of sending the software was a very nice gesture, you do not need to send me anything.  Have a very Merry Christmas.  Renee
    Donation
I am heartened by the quick response of so many to donate to this cause, but I am also dishearted by so much skepticism out there at this situation. I am a skeptic too, but if someone needs help, we should all be more than willing to help out. What if it was you or your kids?? Would you want skepticism to keep your kids from having at least a little something under the tree? Follow your hearts, not your egos from having had a bad experience or two in life. We all have had those. Merry Christmas to all who have contributed so far! and to those who still will. :^) Kathy S.
BOL! ... Put me down for a donation ... ;-)

    Equipment Donation
Does anyone know of a tax charity to donate Lanier transcription equipment?
donation is voluntary...I did not pay either. nm
    nm
do you think there will be some type of donation drive?
the post office usually sets up spots for donations, or lets you leave items for them to pick up. my heart was so moved when they did this in our area for the tsunami victims, and driving around seeing all the bags of donated goods made me almost cry.

something I noticed was that mostly the lower to middle class (still exist?) left items. their neighborhoods were full of bags of goods at their mailboxes for the tsunami victims.
Cards that say donation to charity sm
St. Jude's Children Hospital has them, it reads that a gift to the hospital has been given to the hospital in their honor. Very nice, not too personal and no hint that some return gift is expected.
Make a donation to a children's charity or
and ask if there's anything you can help them do...like write acknowledgements for flowers so they don't have to face it.
Yes, everyone who make a donation gets to pull from Santa's Bag.
    /
Yes, the page is clear about entering. If you make a donation,

you are entered to potentially win the prize that you chose in the drop down list.  You can enter as many times as you wish for any of the prizes listed, but there is only one winner per prize giveaway.

People have no patience anymore. I gave a $10.00 donation and I got an email the next evening.

I think since these people also have a transcription service, no one should expect an instant response.  Besides, it's more about giving than getting anyway.

Care to share the charity that doesn't pester after receiving a donation? x

If you make a donation, you are entered for the Sees candy? Monitor should answer this.

    MQ raise
My last raise was in 1998.  When I asked for one last year, I got one quarter of a cent.  Then three quarters of a cent were taken away from me when I started DocQscribe, as I was told I was gonna make so much more money with DQS.
    raise
May want to follow up with a phone call, sometimes if they get a lot of email it is easy to overlook them. That's what I do if they don't get back to me as soon as I think they should, anyway :)
    getting a raise
How does one go about getting a raise as an independent contractor? I am not even in the same state. Shoud I e-mail or phone and how long should I wait before asking? In the past, I could always ask a co-worker, but my kids are my co-workers now. Does anyone know the correct protocol?
anyone with DSG ever get a raise?
    d
    Raise
I've been with MQ for a good while and I'm happy (just because my office is awesome), but I'm an intrigued with their production comparisons (ASR vs non-ASR) and interpreting polls (after the first one I sent that they "interpreted," I never sent another).

My theory on raises: Since the ASR rate will be reduced, you already have a "built-in" raise by not doing ASR. This is not to say they won't give raises eventually, but if you ask for one because you are doing the scum, they will say, "Well, the ones who do ASR don't get paid as much."

My advice to you would be to do ASR. Or get a different job because with MQ, this is the future. At least if you can master it and as the ASR improves (you'll get faster), you won't have a continuous diet of bottom-feeder material. That would absolutely drive me crazy. They probably eventually will eliminate all non-ASR'ers anyhow once the system is more refined.

Just total speculation on my part.
    raise?
I hope whatever they gave you in the form of a raise compensates for what you have to go through, day in, day out, without any reprieve, and without even a good doc thrown in for good measure.  Does it?  Was it at least a buck an hour, and preferably two bucks?  Or was it two bits?  Keep your eyes open, MQGuy.  It won't be long before you are OUTTA THERE!   (Will the 0.050 cents per line, or whatever paltry sum it was, pay for your psychologist to keep you as sane as you are now?) I wish you luck, and I mean it sincerely.  They got you hook, line and sinker.
