What is the best battery backup for a computer? nm
mn
what model/make battery backup do you use for computer? nm
nm
I charge the same amount for a "normal" report as for any other report.
You still have to listen to the dictation and change anything that's different.  I had one woman try to pull this on me.  She'd dictate, "Just pull up my normal, but change this, change that, switch that around, move that, add this, delete that, and change the other."  Then she'd only want to pay me what equated to $.03 per line.  She wanted 1:1 on her dictation to transcription ratios.  I told her to take her cheap account down the road because I'm worth more than that.
As someone who lost their husband almost 2 years ago, I can tell you that no amount of money could

ever replace my best friend and husband.  Yes, I have tried the dating thing, but to tell the truth here, it's not the same and I don't think anyone could ever replace the father my children lost at such an early age.

By the way. he had just turned 34 when he died, so I suppose you might want to give your hubby a big hug tonight for thinking of your future without him, especially when we truly do not see ourselves leaving this world so soon.

Hugs to you and yours!!!

I use a APC ES-500 with 30 minute battery time - sm
I think it was about $60. Best money I ever spent. We don't have a lot of power outages here but every now and them have a lot of flickers which noramlly would kick off the computer. I no longer have to worry about that, and lost work if I had not saved recently.
My UPS has an estimated battery time of 19 minutes
which gives me enough power to finish the report I'm working on and shut down my computer correctly.
backup, backup, backup!! Always, make this a habit even with your auto corrects. (sm)

honey, it works like this: The MTSO(service) charges the doctor X amount per line or report, and
takes part, gives you the rest. Therefore - the MSTO(or service) decides your pay.

If you are paid 8 cpl, surely you do not believe the service charges the doctor 8 cpl - do you?

Time to get a backup!
Well actually more like a primary.  This would be my third job, really, if that.  As an IC you should try to have more than one job, really.  Never put all your eggs in one basket.  That way, if one falls off, you have your other.  When one slows up, I ask for more work at the other to make up income.
Without starting a war, how much time is reasonable to spend on reasearch (sm)
when paid by the minute?

I have access to the patient's electronic chart and often use this as a tool to look up doctor names, diagnoses, etc. Often, these charts go back for years. Documents are both scanned into the patient's chart by the physician's office(a 5-page stress test would be 5 separate scanned entries) and typed directly into the patient's chart (a 5-page document would be 1 entry).

We are paid by the minute, no matter how fast or slow the doctor talks. So, if they manage to speed talk, not take a breath, and slur an entire H&P into a 1-minute report, we get paid for a minute's worth of work regardless of typing time.

Having given the above information, what would you consider a reasonable amount of time to spend on research,i.e., looking up "Dr. Smith" with no first name and no specialty or indication why the patient saw "Dr. Smith", or things of that nature.

(I've got my fingers crossed that this does NOT start any type of MT versus QA argument!!!)

Thanks.

..or when the doc dictates "prior report LOST by XXX Transcription Service...AGAIN." sm
I work for a national MT company, we do hospitals all over the country, I work from home. I have NO control over where the chart goes once I send it in, I'd bet the original chart was never dictated and hence never 'lost' by us....but in the case that it may have been, THEY HAVE THE PHONE NUMBER of the company to call them, they have specific contacts at the company for issues such as this...I CAN'T HELP YOU WITH THIS, especially when all they're doing is bitching at me on a voice file. Funny, it's always the same couple of docs complaining of lost dictations. Curious that it's JUST THEM. ;-)
Restore to a previous date. Backup files next time.

anyone paid by the amount of time dictated?

I am being paid by the line right now, but my office is switching to a completely new system that counting lines would be a nightmare.

The doc has suggested maybe paying me by the amount of time dictated.

Has anyone done this before, and if so what are the pros and cons, and what is a reasonable rate??? I have NO idea!

Thanks so much for any info.

I have been with them for seven years this September and never raised my rates, which I brought up to him while speaking about the new system saying I would hope whatever we decide is more than I make now!

Voice Recognition wont take over in that amount of time.
.
The FUNNY thing is that in the amount of time it takes for them to post a message
x
Lost time?
Maybe you are all spending too much time doing searches?
In training we were told don't spend much time - let it go to QC because the clerks have all the census information, etc. that we do not have access to and it is easy for them.

Some things to consider:
If it's an old dictation (more than a couple of months), it probably won't be in the database. If it's a preop for the future, it won't be in the database; just type in what the dictator says.
I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
17, lost him to Hodgkin's; 24 the next time, divorced him then
36 the next time, happily married for 4 years. Third time is the charm.
Every time I transcribe someone who has lost their spouse...(Sm)

or other family member and is having a hard time getting through it, my heart just sinks and I feel so bad for them.  It is amazing the empathy we can feel for people we don't know.  This pt is having a hard time today because it is the one-year anniversary of her father's and sister's death.  How very sad.

I had a doc that lost his tapes. Once time left
for vacation. Had them in his pocket. Realized that when he got to Florida. Mailed them back to me...
I got a copy of Quick Look Elec Drug Ref...
of my very own...not too shabby I don't guess!
My doc told me elec. records not working out.

I also lost my sex drive the minute I got pregnant the first time....never got it back....that was 8

LOL...every time I get a report SM

on a patient who is a doctor (or any healthcare professional), I always proofread the report very carefully.  While I know I should do that on every report, I'm doubly careful when transcribing their medical records.  I don't want them to think their MT is a moron.

Chickadee

Per report if they're short, per line if take too much time. nm
:)
I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.

You have to think outside the box--grrrr sm
I had a manager who said that all the time. I hated it. I felt like putting her in a box and telling her to try thinking outside of it and see how far she got.  I truly think all the Taco Bell food and commercials got to her (think outside the bun).
GRRRR
I feel your pain. That is really a pain in the butt!!
Double GRRRR
Been there, done that. It's awful isn't it? Tomorrow will be better maybe? Hope so.
Still no freaking work!!!!! Grrrr
I am out of Amherst and still no work. I have 8 accounts, you would think in 1 account there would be some work, but no. I am stressed. I will never make my line count.
I sent this link to several people I know. GRRRR...nm

I doubt your brother has won more than he's lost. To win that much he's probably lost 3 times
So he probably has more bills than money. Otherwise the casinos would go broke.
How long does your battery last?
Mine only lasts for two hours and then takes about 45 minutes to recharge to 100% when I plug it in to electric.
How often do you have to change the battery sm
in the receiver? The specs say operating time is greater than 4 hours (receiver). Does this mean you would have to change the battery every day?
Grrrr - I just called a doctors office that....sm

Medicaid is making me take my foster child to for a second opinion to ask them if their office is in an office park as it's an area that has a lot of office parks.   I received an answering service that was manned by probably someone overseas because the woman couldn't understand me.  I asked her 3 times if the office was in an office park and she had no idea what I was saying - just kept saying " I can give you the address.  It is ....." and gave me the information I already had.  I then asked if I could talk to her supervisor and the idiot said "I can give you the office address it is...." and gave me the doctors office address again.   I hung up and called back 3 times and still got the same idiot.

Rest assured that when we see this doctor today he's going to get a piece of my mind about using someone to answer his phones that can't understand basic English!!!

Grrrr. Well I guess you could change jobs but then SM

he'd be saying you are neglecting your children. He COULD help you some so that you have a little free time.

I suppose he needs you to work and make money but then be available when he crooks his finger?

Pet peeve of mine. Makes my blood boil.

I mean doing same job but make about half what I did years ago....grrrr!
x
Doc left recorder on...196 minutes grrrr

Start with a battery change.
This really sounds like a battery problem. They start wearing out and the sound drops off well before they die.

Just change the battery. Don't worry about being thought weird . . . you can't do good work on his reports if you can't hear them. It's ok for you to let him know that something is wrong.

If a new battery doesn't help, try a new tape. Old tapes get icky.

Just need to vent ... get tired of clods who hear what I do and say "easy job." grrrr sm

After all of these years, I should be used to it, I suppose, but it is a bit insulting when people come up to me and say, "yeah, I'd like to work at home -- must be great, sitting around in your jammies all day" ... "I'm a fast typer (gotta love the typer part), maybe I should do that job."   To heck with grammar, knowledge of the terminology (not only the spelling but also the meaning), medications (including their usual dosages and uses), etc.  Just pull up a computer, put on some sloppy clothes, and *poof* you're a medical transcriptionist!

Well, gee, I'd like to have a lawyer's income, so I guess I'll just go be a lawyer!

Okay ... I'm done ranting now ... back to work for me.  Thanks for "listening."  :-)

Change your battery. Also, some antivirus, screen savers,

and system utilities can cause computer time clock loss.

Yes, I am a complete computer dummy, but where is the battery and can I replace it myself?
x
Yup, mine did that a few years ago. New battery fixed it right up. Be sure to write down your setti
x
Mouse included in the package lit up right after battery insertion. No on lights
come on when the batteries are inserted and power button doesn't do a thing. Power isn't being transmitted to keyboard for some reason.
To finish...no one obviously feels like typing up, so the night people get the pool garbage. Grrrr.
,,
A laptop, wireless router or a card from say Sprint, good battery
you could work anywhere. Being wireless has great benefits, say if you are in the hospital, dying, why you could make a few bucks to pay for the funeral.

You do not need the 1099. You just need to report the income. Report the company/person ...sm
to the IRS for not sending out the 1099.
I think $15/hr reasonable!!....sm
I cannot figure out the hourly because I get paid by the line and that varies from hour to hour.  DocQScribe is the platform.  I just did 180 LPH for my first hour of the day which comes to $16.40 for that hour but again, that varies from hour to hour.
Yes, probably reasonable
Radiology often has a lot of normal reports, so with normal macros from each doc its quite doable.  Also there are many repetitive phrases they all use so you can make your own macros and speed production that way.  As a newbie I'm not sure you could get up to speed that fast, it really depends on how many normals are already in place and how easy the docs are.  A seasoned MT would try to bring her macros with her, but as she already knows their lingo and can anticipate what's going to be said, its pretty much the same stuff on each type of report.
