Both? I thought Spheris had a "no compete" rule.

Posted By: MQ'er on 2005-09-21
In Reply to: I also work for both Spheris and MQ. If quarterly bonuses are eliminated I too will still be with M - I can relate

At least that is what I was told.  Or maybe this is just a new thing?

I fail to understand what the "competition" would be.

Thought that was already a rule
Hmm...I thought that that was already in effect, that no US Govt transcription contracts could go overseas/be outsourced - at least the V.A. has that standard in place...
I thought you worked for Spheris? Anyway,

To compete with who? (sm)

They quit teaching MT in my area at least 5 years ago because there are no jobs in the area.  Hospitals are on EMR and there is no available work in the area.  The schools here were probably sued because people couldn't find decent paying jobs, LMAO!

Who says you have to compete
Obviously the AAMT is more interested in the offshore projects anyway.  Doing something like a BOS with some common sense has nothing to do with them.  Frankly I think a book with tips, tricks, samples etc would be much better than what is currently being offered.  Of course AAMT can't be competed against.  I don't think the idea here is to go after the companies or take over what the AAMT has done.  The idea to have a real organization for MTs here in the United States.  A place where MT opinons really count and the power that be won't sell out to the highest bidder.
Non-compete
I believe all "honest" ICs will willingly sign one since I have been burned before by an MT who went behind my back and stole my account from me!! I was terribly burned and as a small MTSO, I believe in them very strongly. If you want to keep your accounts as an MTSO, have your MTs sign a non-compete. If your an IC, think about it from a MTSO point of view, would you want someone to go behind you and take your business away?! JMHO.
Non-compete clause
This goes on all the time but I must say that it IS stealing! Shame, shame on you!
non-compete agreement
GA girl, where are you? Do you have experience with a n.c. agreement in GA?
non-compete agreement
I read the posts below about the n.c. agreement and wonder if you have any knowledge of them. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
no compete contract...sm

I think I know who you're talking about...almost positive! Gosh, I wish we could post her name here so others in our area would not become one of her many VICTIMS!

Please email me if you'd like...I'd be more than happy to help y'all in any way I can...bestest of best luck to you...I hope you kick her crooked a$$ in court!

Non-compete agreements

Who has had to sign one with their company? Are they enforced? How long was your non-compete arrangement for? Thanks!

Non-Compete Clause
Length of time?  Depends on the verbiage and the company you work for - some want you to wait 6 months, others a year before you approach their accounts.  They are designed to pretty such save MT companies from people stealing their accounts, wreaking havoc.  If you don't plan on stealing work, don't worry about signing it.  Think about it - you might not like the hospital, quit the job, change companies - so would you really WANT TO STEAL THAT WORK??  I didn't think so!  LOL!  There isn't much an individual MT can do to "steal" an entire account anyway.  If a hospital or doc changes, it's because they don't like the company you are working for.  After being in this field for 15 years, I have never seen anyone prosecuted for theft or anything involving the no-compete agreement.  Basically, this is nothing to worry about...unless you have a hidden agenda.
owners trying to compete
The companies are trying to keep their profits high, be competitive with India and the doctors want to pay next to nothing. It's a tough business right now. I would look to other options or really push for more money. I wouldn't work for less than 9 cents. On the other hand, there are MTs out there who think they are very good, but they are honestly terrible. I think if you push for a quality company and sell yourself and you truly are worth the money, you will get it.
It is a reality in this business. It is the only way for them to compete, but it

can we get an update on the no compete contract

This is interesting (non-compete clauses)
My contract has a standard non-compete clause. Basically, that any subcontracted Transcriptionist will not contact or contract with any clients of my service. I finally had a transcriptionist ask for this complete list of clients. Makes sense, because how will they know who to avoid if they, well, don't know? But I would much prefer they didn't know to begin with. I don't want to tip my hand by giving someone a list of my entire clientele base. Does this seem fair? I feel I should reword my contract to avoid this in the future, but I am not sure how to do so.
we have to compete for our prize for MT week
We have to find stuff in our work like a certain med, or the oldest person, and the first person who finds it gets the prize.  There were only 10 prizes to give out and there are lots of employees.  I didn't even participate because, frankly, they can kiss my patootie.  They should be giving EVERYone something, like, maybe a RAISE, instead of implementing a bogus game where a fraction of the employees win.  Do they think we are second-graders?

You can always say, "No, thank you."
IMO, a good and reputable accountant (along with many others) will tell you when their services are not necessary, especially if you ask. It's just good business practice. I never hurts to ask.
If you haven't signed non-compete forms...
with a company you are employed by now, and you leave the company, is it acceptable (legal) to contact a client of theirs and offer your IC services if you really want that account as your own?  Any suggestions from anyone having ever done this before would be much appreciated.
No way, I am having no problems with productivity, only that my pay has been reduced to compete
with the global market, that is a fact.

Now please with all respect please do not offer your opinions on my situation, I am sensing a little attitude here and I am not interested in your opinions on that. Thanks.
"no boogers"

The doc dictates, "no boogers, fevers or chills"... what would you replace "boogers" with, as I do not seem to be able to find that word in any medical dictionary...I though nasal discharge...

Docs...aaahhhh!!!

to "no message"
Do you do MT and ME? I am just doing MT right now but am considering trying ASR. How does that work? Can you do BOTH or just pick 1??? If you can do both, do the reports come "mixed". Meaning maybe 2 MT jobs then 3 ASR then an MT, ASR, MT, ASR, etc. etc. Or do you get all ASR until it is caught up and then MT or the reverse depending on how pools are set up. I am a little clueless and need some input. Thanks :-)
And all Joy said was "No" on the inside of her post just as did OMT.

I'm not "no whining" that is a different poster ..
and I have quite a life! Bet I make more than you, as well!!!

Lots going on for me!! I'm not complaining about anything in my life!

Losers are the ones on here who whine about how bad their jobs are, or no work, or low pay, or how people treat them, or how companies treat them, or how bad they've got it ... now THOSE are losers. Willing to whine but nothing more!!!!

:) Does that irritate you?! LMAO
LOL I have no idea who "no whining" is but
see, we sound the similar because we have a similar problem -- sick of YOU.

Ya see, all of you whiners --are just the same. Every single one of ya. MQ cheated you. MQ STILL cheats you. MQ won't change. MQ IS changing. MQ took your money. MQ mailed you check. MQ doesn't give you any work. MQ doesn't, MQ does, MQ doesn't, MQ does.

All sounds the same to us. We're sick of you.

What's embarassing is the fact that you THINK you are really MTs! HOW FUNNY!!! Let me tell you something: Real MTs take pride in their work and control of their professional lives. They give all for companies that treat them well and they leave companies that don't. They don't stand for it.

I am not "no whining". I am a completely different person, have no idea who he/she is, don't really care. I'm just tired of hearing you complain over what you can change. It's petty, cheap, childish, self-centered, and downright unprofessional.

I've made over $200 today with MQ. How about you? Have you made any money today? NO? Hmmmm, wonder why!?!?!?!!!!!

Please take her to a "No-Kill" Shelter!
Otherwise, the animals are usually put down after only a week and 1 week really isn't long enough to get the dog adopted. So Please only bring the dog to a "no-kill" shelter!
I think I would just note "no gifts please".
Nor would I ever suggest only money be given.

p.s. to "no, it wasn't aimed...
I re-read my posts "A Matter of Pride" and "Shades of," looking for all the nasty mud-slinging & dagger-throwing I'm being accused of, & I'm simply not seeing it. I still think both posts are completely benign. There was never any mud-slinging intended on my part & for the life of me I can't figure out why Personal Choice got so upset, other than defensiveness/projection. I am still sorry you feel your thread got wrecked, but I'm not sorry I responded in a measured way to Personal Choice. All I was doing was making some calm observations, & I think it's ironic that this kind of response to my thoughts is why I stayed away from the boards for a long time.
I especially like the part about "no longer uses (sm)
international contractors."
Walmart is good. The regular supermarkets are going to be forced to compete.
It all works for the good of the consumer.
OMT said, "No" on the inside of post message.

you are the one pathetic.  Those of us who are trying to figure out how to get out of the muck MQ put us in, come here to share things and hopefully come out of this disaster in one piece.

Like others have said - -0 - - - stay away.

Don't click on things MQ.

Don't YOU get it?  We don't need your attacks.  We don't need your smart butt remarks.  If you don't have anything constructive to post to those of us in a bit of a mess, then don't say anything and move on.

Otherwise we are going to think you are MQ management, and we wouldn't want to think they would stoop that low.

That is hysterical. When I say flames I mean "no mean posts to me." It's just a saying. nm

Recent postings about "no work and so forth"

Quite a few posters who have been MTs for a number of years (myself included) have come under attack recently for comments posted here  -- what those of us who have done this for years are seeing is "I only want to work certain hours, won't do weekends, don't want to be on call so on and so forth"  Guess what?  I got an email from my supervisor on Monday asking me to cover a certain work type while that person was on vacation  -- I did it!!! -- She also called me today (Sunday and asked me to do 3 STATS  -- I cover STATS on Wednesday)  -- however, I did it because it it my JOB  -- since I started this job in October, I have NEVER run ouf of work  -- if the work type that I do runs out, I do to a differnt work type, it is similar to learning a new account which I have done in the past as well.  All I want to say, is be grateful right now that you have a job and if the "work does not fit YOUR FAMILY SCHEDULE" then learn to adjust  -- think PRIORITIES

I think each case is unique. I had a "no changer" and he changed (sm)
We went for counseling and boy did things change!!!! We now listen to each other. We talk more than we ever have. We do things as a couple, for each other. We learned to openly appreciate each other for little things. We learned to love each other in ways that we never did before.

Believe me, my DH came from living at home with momma into our marriage and he expected me to take the place of his mom. That worked for a little while until I grew tired of being his maid and his bedroom companion.

Help with "no operating system found" message sm
Laptop with Windows XP shows "no operating system found" - desktop working. Did this before and comes back with turning on and off, went into "setup" and shows I have so many MB stored on hard drive but cannot get system to boot, misplaced XP CD. This time I cannot get it to come back and depend on laptop at end of day to research, e-mail, etc., as desktop for too many hours is too painful. Any way to get the Windows XP to start up so I can do a system restore to an earlier time? Perhaps an update did this. It is "dead" but everything is still on there, lots of "good stuff" - a Dell so no one else will touch it and I can't get online with them as my other computer is not a Dell.

message re. "no operating system found"
No warranty- a client co. added some software to the XP which was very expensive, i.e., voice, lots of extras I used for over 2 years, "loaded" and it did this to me before but was able to get it back by unplugging, restarting several times. No one else will touch a "Dell" and that co. is closed.  After several "hundred" times I can only do an "F2" and it shows me there is a hard drive with several MB of stuff on there but won't load it, tried everything in the system - hate to lose all this "good" stuff. Is there any way I can transfer my XP from my desktop or run the laptop from my desktop somehow. I think if I could get a startup menu and choose a time to restore it to, like last month or something, I could use it and stop any further "updates" which really mess up things. Gosh, I loved my laptop as it is not "painful" to use and I do have such back pain at end of day, but then I am preaching to the choir about back pain and this job, aren't I? Hate to give up on it when I know there are some good programs on there. Sorry for the rant, I have let this "take over my life" trying to get it to work again. ***$#!**  Thank you!

Quit before I got married. Fiance told me "no way would I marry a smoker," and I was smitten.
Marlboro Reds. I smoked all throughout high school and college before that. Was highly addicted. Had to go for a smoke break between classes.

It's been 10+ years since quitting. Cold turkey. Don't want it, don't want to smell it, won't eat at a restaurant that allows smoking. Fortunately (sorry smokers) in GA, all restaurants are smoke-free now. I like it that way. Can enjoy food better.

BUT, I have a completely different problem that is probably killing me - I'm addicted to sugar and carbs. Highly. Wake up craving it. 40+ pounds overweight. Hate every minute of it. No matter how hard I try, I absolutely cannot stop eating the "white, starchy" stuff. So, the cigarettes may not kill me now, but food might. Sad.
You RULE!
What a win-win situation!

I wish the animal shelters took better care of our pets (since they are a part of the government and all). I don't know why those shelters smell so bad; the shelter in my county stinks so bad that you are constantly aware of it. Taking care of displaced or hurt animals should be a big part of their job, and they could take measures to ensure the animals don't get sick. I understand all about their being overworked, but then someone should report to the higher ups what is needed, and then there should be no problem meeting those needs.

In a neighboring county where I live, the public went toe-to-toe with the director over the animal division; demanding answers about the operations and procedures. (That director said he needed a new building, but the public thought the changes should be made in their operations and procedures.

When I want a dog, I always adopt (so far over the years I've adopted 2 beagles).

Nice post!
First rule of being an MT

That's what I was taught.  Everyone is in the same boat and has to take the bad with the good.  Refusing to do the hard stuff makes it worse for the other MTs on that account, and they will not appreciate it.  Until the problem doctors go poof and disappear, nobody has the right to say they can shove all the bad jobs onto the next MT because THEY are here to make money (everyone is, and someone has to type it).  And there is such a thing as Karma - one day you might log on to find ALL the work is the dictator you dread, because all the MTs that came on before you felt entitled to leave the crap work for YOU.  You really won't make any money on that shift, as opposed to doing a few bad jobs each shift.  So type them as you get them, like the rest of us.

If everyone got together and went to management about the problem guy, that's one thing (and yes, we all feel this way about at least one doctor).  Deciding you don't have to do it because you don't want to is quite another, and often grounds for disciplinary action.  Work is often just that, hard work, and with time and practice it becomes easier.  Nobody promised you a rose garden, challenges are what this job entails.

MY first rule, before being MT. is I have to

The first rule of being self-employed is that

you set your own line rate.  However, we all know that NONE of the MTSOs hiring IC MTs allow us to set our own rate.  They "offer" a rate, and we accept if it's OK.

I worked for a real cheapo doctor when I first started out.  He paid hourly and kept riding my backside to type faster because he only wanted to pay for the actual time dictated instead of the time it took to transcribe.  More than once I told him that it takes an average of 3:1 typing to talking ratio to get it done.  It worked out to be $.03 per line.  I dropped him like a bad habit.  He bounced through a few other transcriptionists who all quit on him before he wound up having to pay to outsource to a service.

as a general rule...

I use an "f" after any abbreviation that I want to expand.  I just use the standard abbreviation plus f, so I do not forget what they are.  My ShortHand is full of things like this.
