When I started transcribing 16 years ago, that was the pay for a newbie just starting out.  16 years later, there are still companies paying 7 to 8 cents to all of their MT's.

Just where do these companies get off thinking they have a right to pay nothing for our efforts?  It's incredible.  Truly incredible.  You truly do get what you pay for.  However, I can be rest assured that because there are so many of us needing to work, we'll take what we get paid, whilst continuing to look and compete for the higher paying line rates.

MT's have a right to be able to earn a decent income to feed their families and keep a roof over our heads.  We do not deserve to be cheated of pay, or forced to work for slave wages.  Unfortunately, slavery is alive and well in North America and this has nothing to do with race.  MT's who work for 7 cents a line are slaves, being paid a mere pittance.

Nobody with 5 years of experience or more should be working for less than 10 cents a line and that should be the base pay.  It should go on up from there with experience, quality and production.

Just my not-so-humble opinion!
