But you stated you questioned your lead SM

and nowhere in your original post did I read that anyone checked with the doctor.  That is the problem we have.  If you or the lead had actually checked and he said to change it, fine.  But neither of you checked.  You asked the lead, the lead said change it and you changed it.

It is being questioned, as I stated, because (sm)
it is unusual.  It may not be unusual for you, but it is unusual for many of us (prayer is not unusual, but to hear this being dictated is, and that is coming from someone who prays 5 times daily without fail).  She has every right to question any dictation before placing it in the report.  If an MT has no right to question any part of a physician's dictation, then what is the MT good for?
I can't believe this is what is questioned!
Of all the horrid things I see from MTs and MDs, this is so BENIGN! Please..he probably meant the patient has never been pregnant and (therefore or so..) has never had a child. This is really too ridiculous to even respond to. LOL!
Either way.......that should have been questioned by

I had questioned values/dosages by leaving
a blank - QA filled it in with what was said -- totally wrong. All we could do was notify our supervisor if we caught it and who knows what happened there.

We could only send a certain percentage of reports to QA, if over that percentage, then our bonus/incentive/whatever they call it now was affected. Didn't matter the reason we sent it, it was the total number of reports sent.
I remember all that, too. The parents rarely, if ever, questioned the teacher or the principal.

I wonder what the change is?  Do we parents have egos because now most of us have as much education as teachers do?  Are we unwilling to sit back and never question "authority figures"?  Do we remember being wronged in our own childhoods, so we're quick to defend?

I try not to be a buttinsky at my kids' schools, but sometimes I just don't agree with how they're doing things there.  One day, three bigger boys with bad home lives and a history of fighting jumped my son, who is the most peaceful kid you've ever met.  Two of them held him down while the third one was on top of him punching and kicking him.  My son had to bite the kids to get them off of him.  He was cut, bruised, and had a bloody nose.  Guess who got punished?  My son did, for biting.  I called the cops and intervened at the school because my son has my full permission to defend himself against bullies, especially on a 3-on-1 situation.

I also remember being punished for things at school when I did nothing wrong, then my parents punished me a second time because of what the teacher said.  I got detention for sneezing in class once.  One of my teachers publicly humiliated me and threatened to pull me out of all the advanced classes if I didn't publicly apologize to another teacher when I wasn't even the one who said whatever it was she was upset about.  One of my male teachers actually picked up a student and slammed him into the chalkboard, ripping the kid's shirt off in the process.  So yes, I'm going to stay on the schools and make sure my kids aren't hassled by any burnt out teachers who are just biding their time until retirement.  My kids aren't angels, but they're not demon spawn either.

    lead 5??? what sm

The patient’s EKG shows a sinus rhythm 73 beats/minute with normal intervals, normal axis, normal QRS, normal STs.  The patient has nonspecific T-wave inversions in V2, V3, V4, V5, and V6, as well as biphasic T-waves in lead I and aVL.  She has flattened T-waves in leads II, III, and 5.    There is no lead 5 (at least not in roman numbers)  What should I type here????

    Here's a lead....sm
Contact June Jackson, our recruiter at Transolutions, Gail or reply to me by email from this post. We'll do everything we can for you!

    Lead the way!

What about involving MTStars as a way to get a petition started, or to create a new formun.  After all, that is what WE, the MT wants and this is what the website is about correct?  Maybe that is how to get a union started, or a petition big enough to send to the people who care, whether it is Washington or the IRS.  I am in the same boat as the rest of you all.  I made big bucks three years ago, for 8 years, and now it is just gone. I am making a 1/3 of what I did.  If you lead the way, I will follow. Just tell me where to sign.

I was lead to believe ....(sm)
I was lead to believe that it was an agreement between eScription and the hospital itself, not the MT company, that had renegotiated the way lines are counted (probably so that the hospital will stay with the eScription platform). The MTSO that I work for was taken by surprise about the lines being cut as much as I was (i.e., no longer counting the header and footer). This means that eScription agreed to accept less and, by default, the MTs that work any such affected account, as well as the MTSO all get paid less. We are just feeders, per se, in the chain behind eScription's contract with the hospital. Has anyone else been told something similar?
    Shift Lead MT/QA
In this position currently at 15.00 per hour.
What exactly is a shift lead MT?

I would think this would lead to a lot of guessing.

You cannot type in what you cannot hear.

It looks like the healthcare one is in the lead, but - sm
at least it's a topic that is another one that is related to many of us, since only a certain percentage of US MT's have health insurance at all. And often what we DO have offers inferior care by disallowing care & meds that WORK, and only paying for the absolute minimum, even if it causes the pt. to eventually become sicker and then need LOTS of medical care, even hospitalization. We're getting nickled-and-dimed to death from every angle, and yet look at the high old life the big-shots at the hospitals, HMO's, and insurance companies get to live. IS there even a Middle-Class in America anymore? If so, I sure don't know any of them. There are either the Super-Rich, or us - the Working Poor.
My team lead is not even an MT!

She never understands anything I am talking about. I have to explain things to her like she is a 2 year old, and even then she just doesn't get it. Why would a company put someone who is clueless about transcription in a position over other MTs!!!??? It is just another frustration to add to an every increasing list of frustrations. But, like you, I am keeping my mouth shut. I just don't get it!!

I'm aware of where this degree could lead - sm

I worked in the HIM dept of a hospital at the beginning of my 10 years in this field, so I know what position this degree could put me in.  I also know that just the fact of having a degree is more than just being an MT and it will give me advantages than I currently have.

I do feel like this is almost a lost cause and that the MT industry is reaching the point of no return (or has already).  I currently work for a fairly small transcription company and I am very thankful for the work that I have, even though I don't get paid what I would like, but I do have plenty of work and it is getting me by.  I chose to go back to school because I don't want everything to turn upside down and I have nothing to fall back on.  I wish all the best for the MT industry and if things do turn around I would never leave it, but I don't think that will be the case.

What would you say the range of pay is for a Team Lead, editor sm

and MT?  Just trying to get a feel if our pay rates are in line with the norm, too high or too low (have a feeling too low).

Working on making positive changes.  Any input appreciated.

As background ... small national, 150 MTs, all work kept in U.S.A.  Work types:  Clinic, HIM, ortho, cardiology, radiology.  All ICs, might be looking to hire employees.

With everyone complaining about companies, it can't hurt to ask what the norm is - the good norm :)

OMG! HAHA! Do they have a Humor Board? You could lead it! nm

    storms lead to stray dogs.....
and we have one of those now for 2 years. He's a Collie mix, sooo sweet. We decided he's ours now, but he was extremely scared of storms at first. Now, he knows to come look for us. He stays inside and doesn't get as nervous as he used to, just wants someone close by. The vet gave us Ace (short for something), which I give him when there's ongoing storms. It sedates him a lot but doesn't put him out, unless I give him lots more. We just love, rub, and reassure him. We have a female cat that does the same...she cries and cries. That's also how we ended up with her, I' m sure, trying to outrun a storm. She never hangs around the dog, but during a storm, she goes and sits practically underneath the Collie for protection...the scared consoling the scared, but it gets her through it.
AT, how about a nice shelf with whatever's needed to lead to it for your little dog? SM
A separate room helps me concentrate somewhat, but mainly I just like making it a nice place to be, with in my case, the cat bed on my desk to the right where she can look out the window while I stare at the screen. BTW, a mirror carefully positioned also reflects some of the view outside for me.
I would call your team lead or manager and talk to them. Maybe there is sm
some advice or help they can give.

I have been with 3 companies and range in pay from $1.05-$1.45 per report. I actually make the most at the one I am with now at $1.10 per report because the account is really good.

In that case you have to do what your lead tells you, but I would have never even asked my superviso
I would have just transcribed it and moved on. The only thing is, the x-ray is possibly not consistent with the rest of the medical record.
The 12-lead system comprises six limb (I, II, III, aVR, aVL, and aVF) and six chest leads (V1 to V6)

I'm lead transcrip for small ofc, in the field since 88, and I've found (sm)
that depending on the person, it can take up to a year. You either have to be very smart and very driven to make it shorter, or you would have to have some exposure to the systems/docs etc. It takes a longer time if you are also new to the field of MT. But after about a year, if you don't find yourself relaxing when you are at work, talk to somebody. That's long enough, and you should be finding a niche for yourself by then.
Yes, Live, his fave group - and the lead singer is his *idol*.

    OP also stated.....

"obviously upper middle class"....so that does definitely have a bearing on the response made.  There are so many variables here as well as trying to compare almost apples and oranges.  I'm very sorry that happened to the little girl, but they knew she had been already for for 14 hours; they don't even know where Holloway is; she was in a foreign country when she disappearing and said foreign country is not sharing any information.  There is a big difference between these two cases.

With all that being said, I do absolutely agree on one thing; there has been way too much coverage on Natalee Holloway.  I don't believe they will ever find her.  It was much too easy to throw her weighted body into the ocean or, maybe she was sent into South America to be used as "whatever they wish to make her do".  I haven't heard any reports on incoming or outgoing flights from Aruba during that night have you?  All it takes is a little single engine plane to do the job.

    What I stated before was---
I don't object to people breaking into food stores for water or food, but why do they need to steal TV sets, break into people's homes to steal jewelry, guns, etc. That is STEALING, folks, like it or not. Why do they need to steal TV sets now when there is no power to begin with??? If they were just taking items that they needed to survive, that's one thing, but to take advantage of a horrible situation is reverting to the law of the jungle. The fact that these IDIOTS are SHOOTING AT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP THEM IS A CRIMINAL ACT! As I have said many times before on this board-- a situation like this brings out the best in some people and the worst in others! The ones who are doing all the looting, shooting, rapes, etc. already had that mentality and are just using this as an excuse. They are not helping anybody by doing this, including themselves.
Yes, it should be stated that 500 lph
Not many people can crank out 500 lph and if they do, it's because the account has many normals and templates. That's rare, especially in acute care.

Even if you could transcribe 500 lph, 6 cpl is still WAY TOO LOW. Do not accept that rate of pay unless you feel that's all your work is worth.
Who stated they took the AHP
I am actually a graduate from one of the top 3 schools, never had any problems finding a job after school. It is a disappointing field to get into, people expect you to work like a worker in a sweat shop. I especially feel bad for people who have been in this business for many, many years, have the CMT credential and don't get the pay they deserve. In all actuality, it doesn't matter where you got your training or your credientials, you still don't get paid what you are worth.

However, I am glad I researched the schools 3 years ago before getting sucked into one of the diploma mills.
    As stated below...

I had one the other day that stated

    It's Transolutions, as stated above.

Excuse me, but as has been stated
very different. I'm happy that you have a good one, but we don't all get bonuses...even if we have excellent QA. So how 'bout gettin' off the high horse and jumping to conclusions when you may not have all the FACTS?
As I stated right at the beginning....

If it were ME, I would be blaming myself.  Each and everyone of us are responsible, one way or another, as to what happens in our lives.  Too many people over the past so many years find it much easier to place the blame elsewhere.  That is one of the problems with our society.  I was "accused" of being an over-protective parent as my child grew up, but guess what, he never, ever even came close to an incident such as that, or close to being kidnapped or any of the other things going on in the world; didn't fall down steps; wasn't involved as a passenger in a car accident, wasn't around drug users or "bad" people, because I PAID ATTENTION...I didn't allow accidents.  Accidents are only LACK OF ATTENTION and lack of common foresight!

Also, my "over-protectiveness" did not in any way inhibit my child's growth.  He is a Gunnery Sargeant in the Marine Corps and handles great responsibility well and has the foresight and the attention needed to prevent accidents!

As for the driver of that car, I'm not trying to "take their side"....I'm just saying we don't know what the circumstances were....my goodness, we have all run over something in the road at one time or another and when the weather is inclement or it is dark, sometimes you don't know what it is.  I would certainly hope that if they knew it was a child, of if they find out through newscoverage that they ran over a child, that they will come forward.  I'm sure that at least 99.9999% of people out there will not willfully run over anyone.  Perhaps he/she looked down at the dashboard or the left rear window for just that one second and felt a thump as he car moved on.  Probably wondered what it was but had no idea whatsoever that it was a child....why would any driver in their right mind think that a 2 year old was out on the highway at 2:00 AM or midnight or whenever it was?????

    as stated below, sounds like
office mangers padding their own pockets, NOT MQ policy... I would take it all the way to corporate
You have just stated my feelings exactly. nm
    xx
The letter I got clearly stated that you can opt out
of ASR and do strictly MT. I was told when I trained on DEP that at some point there would be a reduction for those doing ME. I see no reason to bail, as my office, at least, was up front with me. It's unfortunate if some offices were not.
It would be x3 or 3 times if stated
    that way.
That was NOT how you stated, read
I am glad I don't do you line counts either, but I can bet they are not 2500 in 8 hours!!!
spaces are usually stated -- with or without
    it's no trick at all

if they say just 65 characters, i would think spaces are not paid

yes, you could call them and that is what you should do

No I meant what I stated.
Taxes and other deductions come out of the $730/750 a week.

The monetary value of company provided health insurance, PTO, STD, LTD, life insurance, retirement, company matched income tax, etc., adds about another 30% plus value to my base pay.
not one name nor team name was stated....nm
    .
I do believe as stated in this discussion
that we should care for them. I just want to respond to some things said. Yes, our parents have decades to prepare. But my parents worked very hard and were extremely smart with their money and had a good savings when my Dad became ill. However, to put him in a nursing home is thousands of dollars a month. His insurance paid 0 for it and Medicare only paid 20 days. For him to stay it would have drained every pain fast (and it did) and then he would get state aid of course. If you can at all help it, a nursing home is NOT where you want to put a loved one. Some are great if you can afford them, but even the ones you think are good can be very remiss in care. Trust me, I've seen it. They're grossly understaffed and some employees should not be in that field, enough said. I don't and didn't at ANY time feel caring for my Dad was a burden. I did feel it was my responsibility. He's a member of my family. If my brother or sister became ill and had no family to care for them, I would certainly feel it's my responsible to at the very least help them get care but for certain to make sure they're cared for. I can't say how a person should feel towards an abusive parent since thankfully I have no experience in that. No, I wouldn't want to 'burden' my children with caring for me when I'm old. But if I raise them right and I happen to need care, I would hope they would feel privileged and blessed like I did, to help make sure I get what I need.
She stated they were using them in emails,

Thanks for replies. As stated, sm
I do plan to ask the MTSO about it. I just wondered if it was more commonplace with smaller-sized MTSOs. Patti, that makes sense - the MTSO is in a small town, so maybe they are used to working on trust.

I've seen a lot of MTs not getting paid lately, and I have been burned in the distant past by a few, myself. I did receive a reply on here about the co., but then I thought, shoot, it could've even been the MTSO answering for all I know!

Thanks. I appreciate the opinions. No, I'm not brainless and I would never make a final decision based solely on opinions on a message board. Only wanted information since I don't have past experience with small MTSOs and how they usually operate. Once I said yes, I'd work for them, I received work right away, same day. I knew they were swamped and figured we'd do contracts later once things settled. Only worked a couple files here and there, then the big project issue came up and I thought hmmmm.... is this wise? LOL Probably being overly paranoid, but it's hard not to be with so many MTs being stiffed and usually by what seem to be smaller companies. Thanks again!
He stated he is going to fight that.

Said he is going to fight against that medical records thing.  Didn't mean offshoring, does not sound like he has any idea about that happening to our medical records.

As I stated in my post below ...
Qualified is a great thing, but it's pretty clear that the industry does not want to pay for qualified.

The poor "education" that most MTs receive (and rely on without taking their studies further on their own) are accepted by SO MANY companies because, were MTs required to be more educated, the rate of pay would have to go up.

They are able to continue to pay extremely low wages with very unfair terms because we are not, as a whole, educated, represented in a unified way, or regulated.

I can assure you, if quality really WAS of interest to hospitals or MT companies, they would demand a certification program and we would be in a much different boat.

But because it is NOT of real interest or import to hospitals, doctors, or national MT companies, the "regular" MT will never live up to true quality standards.

It doesn't seem as though there's a mismatch between what the buyers expect and what the sellers produce, really. The market has adjusted to the point where both sides are comfortable.

It is what it is. And until one or the other of us cares more, it will stay what it is.
I once had a report where the doc stated
That's funny Cranky. Reminds me of an older doctor I used to transcribe for.

"The patient is feeling so daggone good, he doesn't need me anymore."

"The patient states his stream is so good, he can hit the wall from across the room."

Seeing as this doctor was always dictating some off the wall phrases and at times flirting with the older female patients as he dictated the reports in front of them, I'll never forget the time I sent a report to QA to confirm his stating "Patient comes in today with his rascal." Here I was thinking umm, is he referring to the man's wife?? lol

Duhh, moment for me as he was talking about the man's wheelchair.

That doctor used to have me laughing.
