Consistency is the key. It is confusing to them if you are inconsistent.

inconsistent volume due to moving away from mic and then back again.

Plus mushmouths, auctioneer-wannabes, clueless ESLs, and cellphones and beepers too close to the mic, and monotone dictators who bore the crap out of you.

Plus any dinging spellcheck bell that blows out your eardrum, too, if the volume is up due to Marilyn Monroe sexily giving dictation in her soft voice.  Not doc's fault but still a pet peeve.

numerals used for consistency..so all is the same..

If only this policy was followed with consistency, now that would be new!

Consistency helps
It doesn't really matter what you use, but find a pattern and stick with it. For instance, anything starting with yo I know is a hypo something (yot=hypertension, yok= hypokalemia, etc.). I start all my headings with an x (so hx= history but xhx=HISTORY:) My first use of Expanders was with an old program called PRD and since that is how I learned, I still use a lot of their patterns. In the case of PRD, you could enter your root word (say rev for reveal) and go through and add what suffixes you wanted (revd=revealed, revs=reveals). I have mine set up so that typing chf spits out CHF but typing chf2 will give me congestive heart failure (for all my acronyms/abbreviations, the number 2 afterwards will spell it out). For those that don't follow a pattern, you have to create one; in the case of a generic multiple word phrase, you might use the first two letters of the first couple words or in the case of a doctor's specifics you might call it SMITHPE (for Dr. Smith's physical exam).

You will find that it gets simpler with use and as you get more comfortable with it, the entries you make will be more intuitive and will become easier to remember. As I said, figure out a pattern you want to use and try to stay fairly consistent with it, and at least most of the words you enter will be easily recalled to your fingertips. Good luck!
save the emails and send them back when the corrections are inconsistent.

How long to get consistency in lines?

I have been trying to use an Expander for 2 years. My speed is between 150-200 lines per hour, 1100 to 1500 per shift, depending on the docs and type of report. None of the docs seem to say the same thing every time so I've been having a hard time. I have a slew of normals but must change them all the time.

I have hundreds of words and phrases in my expander, but I can't remember half of them or how they are abbreviated. The advisory gives me enough suggestions but I have to stop and chose one if I don't remember the number immediately.

I have the book Saving Keystrokes but part of my problem is that I'm not consistent on using abbreviations.  My goal is 250-300 lph consistently. How can I achieve this without jepordizing the quality of my reports?

Don't say use macros. I have no idea how. I've been reading up on everything I can find about them, but it goes in one ear and out the other. I just can't figure them out anymore (used to a decade ago).

Any ideas or help here?

I used to work for a hospital that used Meditech and we found the line counts to be inconsistent. SM

I used to be a supervisor and was trying to find a way to monitor productivity on Meditech and found that line counts fluctuated greatly!  I did all kinds of comparisons - typed reports in word and counted the lines in word with MP Count and then compared it with Meditech and there was sometimes near a 200 line discrepancy at the end of the day.  Then we found that running a line count twice in Meditech on the same MT and same reports would get us two different numbers with about 20 lines difference.

Meditech is just not MT friendly, but unfortunately MTs are at the bottom of the list of considerations when choosing an EMR system.  I gave up and started keeping track of minutes of dictation.

Have you talked to mgmt. about the lack of consistency?
Seems like mgmt would want to get all the QA on the same page, anyway b/c that is way too frustrating for the MTs to get conflicting requests all the time. Where I do QA we get mgmt emails all the time reiterating client requests and info to keep us all in the loop.
That's seems confusing,

NM confusing
I don't know about any of this.  All this is so confusing.  Just started looking here and am finding even trying to understand how to get into this to post a question very confusing, so think some people could be a little more patient and understanding.
Is confusing to me. SM
My hubby has this too and gets bonus in December, however, on the quarterly report for the 401K it shows employer match plus separate figure for profit sharing. So, I'm thinking the bonus is not the same as the profit sharing in his case.
Thanks, it is so confusing
and has plaqued me for many years and I have placed stickies about it in the past but can't seem to find them now in the mound of papers around my desk. I will try and keep this somewhere so I can find it!!!!
confusing

My interpretation was as I stated, just don't understand the fake resume etc.  It seems though it was initiated by a US MT, but who knows there is always two sides.  I just feel at this time with electronic records and our trarnscription there is nothing to protect MTs no matter where we work.  A fair day's work deserves a fair day's pay for whomever.

Confusing
I never said everyone should live on what I make. I am comfortable and satisfied with how much I make. That is what the thread was talking about. To tell the truth, I don’t have to work but I still do because I love my work and it has been part of my life now for so many years. I read horror stories about people who retire and don’t live long after that and just like to make money, I guess. I was comfortable even BEFORE he and I married because years ago when I was divorced and raising my children did not let grass grow under me and worked as much as I needed to have what I wanted, nice vacations then too. I am satisfied, if youre not, then that is you.
I think you're confusing her with

It is confusing. But it's the only way to actually judge how much you are...
getting paid for the exact same amount of work. As long as you work with the same big block of text, it works perfectly.
th is is confusing. Can you clarify what you mean,

your message is very confusing but
I would say to go with a computer based digital phone that has unlimited long distance, i.e. vonage, sage, time warner, etc.
You are confusing your terms.

Software is the computer interface that allows you to perform a certain task, in this case, FTP software allows your computer to connect to an FTP site. If you're looking for an FTP site that is secure, you will more than likely have to pay for it. You can try www.ftptogo.com, although it is not free, it is a good site.

Your wording is confusing.
An IC would DO work for a clinic not work at and you would not resign as you are not an employee - that is an employee term.  I would simply tell them you are cutting back on the amount of work you can handle.  You control the amount of work - not them if you are truly an IC.
The new upgrade was confusing to me and I just
figured out that it was set to send it to QA automatically. So annoying. There are a lot of things being corrected in my reports that I know are right too.
Hope this does not sound too confusing
It is an IP address inside of an IP address. Basically when working with a VPN, you connect to a server. Once these 2 computers are connected, then you are sent to the next IP address within the original IP address. While there, a VPN constantly changes the IP address to make it very hard to break into.

Hope this helps :)
Boy, you guys are confusing. Are you talking to me or to her?

you are confusing RSI with carpal tunnel
I'm not having a problem with my wrists. It's all the tendons in my fingers. Funny thing, I posted the message after having gone to Best Buy and clickey-clacking through all their keyboards. They are all stiff too. I am looking for something that you can just barely touch the keys so my tendons aren't so strained.
Excuse me for being confusing, lol. No pun intended. SM
Yes, I did mean vertical. I have no problem with adding to my favorites list or moving/organizing them where I want them. It's that the list has, somehow, re-arranged itself into alpha order.
The confusing part was that they acted as if

think they would be the very best themselves. I was so disappointed and upset by that experience that I felt apprehensive about the entire MT field after the mess was over. However, I did get a job and have been working for almost 4 years now in the field. I work for a small company. The owner tells me constantly how much she appreciates me and feels lucky to have me.  --and I tell her the same thing!  -and boy do I mean it.  :)

I was not going to post anything about Toth, but the more I thought about it.... well, I also would not wany anyone to go through what I did.

your posts are confusing and vague, but--
I think what I am reading is that you have a computer now with only one plug in and that's for the monitor. You never specify if your pedal is a 9-pin, 15-pin, or USB. I can only assume that it is either a 9-pin or 15-pin, as somewhere in your posts, you stated that you DID have USB ports.

Ok, that being said, the pedal with the 9-pin or 15-pin needs what they call a *game port* in order to be plugged in. These *game ports* used to be on the sound card. *game ports* have pretty much become obsolete and opted for the USB ports as they are easy and simple. The lady below who said Google 9-pin to USB adaptor was correct. That is what you need. However, not all adaptors will work either, as the *pins* on the foot pedal are wired in such a way that one pin will make your left pedal work, another your right pedal work, etc. Alot of adaptors are not set up for that and still will not work. I had a 9-pin foot pedal as well, actually still do, packed away some where, which I never go to use as no adaptors would work. I purchased a USB pedal and will never get another 9-pin pedal again. These are *old* technology and pretty much obsolete now, as USB has taken over. You can try the adaptors, but don't get your hopes up. Some have luck with them, and some don't. If you go back to RS, write this down on a piece of paper... 9-pin to USB adaptor. and on a side note, the foot pedal will not work if you are looking for an adaptor for where the monitor plugs in. It is a totally different plug in. Radio Shack personnel are not up to speed on foot pedals and plug ins, trust me on that one. Most of them look at you like you're nuts anyway. Good luck!!!
Aren't you people confusing SS with disability?

I was under the impression that there was no limit on income when your retire on SS.  But, there is a limit if you are on SS disability.  And I believe that amount is around $900.  However, if you are on disability, they also count how many hours you work.   If you are making $900 or less, but working more than part-time hours (something like more than 16-20 hours), that could still disqualify you for disability.  So, I'm confused on this too.   But back to the SS retirement discussion, I thought back in the Clinton Administration, they passed legislation that made it more profitable for retirees to work once they started receiving their SS retirement.  I was glad to hear this as many retirees want to work and they shouldn't be penalized.  After all, the income taxe and SS taxe and Medicare tax goes into the big government kitty, so working retirees benefit everyone.  I'm a believer in keeping retirees busy and bringing in income if they so wish. Well, Doxie, I am on your side.  You asked a simple question and why some are beating up on you is puzzling to me.  You asked a legitimate question. But if you really need to keep it at $900 or less, just divide your line rate into $900, take that answer and divide by four, and that will be the amount of lines you want to stay under per week.  -

U R confusing official definition of professional with "popular" definition...sm

the official definition is those jobs like physicians, PA's, NP's, law, etc. Not something you do for a long time or what your job is. The popular definition for profession is what you do. Same thing with vocation, a official definition would hold to calling, such as clergy or nuns or missionaries... popular would say what's your job. So depends if you are looking for the popular definitions vs. the official definitions, though I will say some very ignorant people posting on the topic...

You're confusing the new QA plan with the new pay plan. New pay plan is still completely under wr
