Curious. What CPL is MQ hiring at these days sm
for acute care employee with 15+ years experience?  When I left them 3-years-ago I was making 10 CPL.  Those signon bonuses are enticing me.
You've got some aspects wrong, Curious.
No one is trying to screw anyone out of lines. It's just not our job to make sure YOU have your work done, period. We're doing what we are told and allowed to do, flat out.

It isn't my responsibility whatsoever to make sure lines are spread out evenly, to make sure anyone else has lines, etc. My job is to get the work done with as much quality and speed as possible. My responsibility is to ensure my household is stable and to keep a good, solid relationship with my employer.

Your "poor me, I'm a victim" mentality does you in.
I've always been curious about the satellite thing...
We are considering moving from the city to the sticks in the very near future, and I'm finding a lot of areas we can ONLY get satellite for high speed internet.

I have seen a few job ads that say no satellite, but why is that? I really know nothing about that service so there is probably an easy answer, I just don't know what it is.

It would be good to know if that will be a major problem before we move out there and I find myself out of a job. ;)

If you paid by echeck, you will receive your gift pull once the check clears the bank.

LMAO - I've been laughin' for days!
Some great imaginations out there though. Maybe they should go into writing great works of fiction and actually getting paid to do it!
I've tried Vivarin and the 1st two days it worked great
But after that they put me to sleep like anesthesia. Go figure.
considering I've applied for 52 jobs in the last 10 days and only got 1 reply for 5 cpl..I wonder

Colonoscopy

Okay, ladies, I need some feedback.  I just scheduled my first screening colonoscopy (family history of colon CA, plus my age are the reasons).   They gave me a choice of scheduling either conscious sedation or with an anesthesiologist who would administer propofol.

I scheduled the conscious sedation, but I have time to change my mind and reschedule.

Anyone had this done?  How much discomfort is there during and afterwards with the conscious sedation?

I realize each person differs in their tolerance and response to such things, but I have no one to ask about it and would appreciate any info you might share.  TIA.

colonoscopy

I have had two of them - both with Demerol and Versed - no problem.  Just this last one though do remember waking up and saying ouch.  Doctor asked me if I recalled anything because by colon was twisted from previous abdominal hernia surgeries and he had to switch to pediatric colonoscope.  I don't remember any pain, just saying ouch, so something must have bothered me.  I just don't like the preparation before and running to the bathroom constantly, I have irritable bowel too.  But, I sure am glad I went, he found 3 polyps, 2 of them precancerous that he removed, no history of colon cancer in my family, going back in 2 years for another.  Good luck.  I was out like a light.

Colonoscopy
Conscious sedation is the way to go. Had two..both went well. One I had today and they used Versed and Demerol...went to sleep and remember very little. Slept two hours at home and feel great now. It is GREAT sleep! The prep (Half Lytely)is the worse part but it does get you clean. You drink 8 glasses of solution after taking two pills. It is quity Yuk! After that it is a breeze.
My first colonoscopy is next week.
Should be just lovely, but gotta have it done. Mom was my age when she perforated her colon. Her dumb MD sent in a gynecologist to do her emergency surgery (the same one he'd sent her two in the weeks beforehand, and who had said he couldn't find anything wrong with her). Too bad they didn't think of diverticulitis before she perforated and had to have emergency surgery. Doncha know that gynecologic surgeon was unprepared when he opened her up. He immediately called in a general surgeon, of course.

But at least I have fair warning that I need a colonoscopy now, before something goes very wrong.
Had e EGD's and 1 colonoscopy with Demerol and Versed
Unfortunately, the Versed was worthless. I was awake the entire time during the colonoscopy. No pain but I chirped like a bird and chatted with the doc and asked all kinds of questions. He was quite blown away. Looking back it was really quite interesting to watch it on the little tv screen. I woke up during my first EGD and watched the scope go into my stomach. Pretty neat.
It's not like it's all that expensive to prep either.
Just $5 a week dedicated to food storage adds up to a good prep supply in no time. 2 cans of tuna and a bag of rice and beans one week, powdered milk and a canned ham the next, etc. Water is free when you store it in 2-liter pop bottles, and relatively inexpensive if you buy gallon jugs at the store. An oil lamp is about $10 at WalMart, and 1 bottle of lamp oil is a couple of bucks. The DGIs (don't get its) are idiots and I absolutely abhor my tax dollars being spent on them. Of course, the elderly and infirm I begrudge nothing. I just wish they could be the only ones we had to spend money on.
would like CMT prep materials
Hi everyone... how can I obtain some CMT prep workbooks, CDs, etc?  I bought the self-assessment tool of 60 questions ... but I'd like to follow-up on this.  Any leads for me ?   Thanks !  Jojo
RMT Prep/Oak Horizons
Does anyone have any experience with these courses. They cost $75.00 and last a month. Do I need these sample questions? Are they helpful?

OR

Do you think by current texts the the RMT review guide and BOS workbook is all I need?

Thanks in advance.
The prep is worse than the procedure, believe me. nm

Prep is definitely the worst part!
My gastroenterologist had me take Fleets Phosphosoda, which you can buy at your local drug store. Worked great and absolutely no cramping whatsoever. I told him I wanted to be put under and he ordered Ditropan, which worked awesome! I woke up feeling great and ready to go back to work! I have had two colonoscopies done and would not hesitate to have another one done if I needed to.
prep worse than very easy procedure....nm

I use an alcohol prep pad to clean the dirt off &
the corner of the packet it comes in I slide between the keys all around and I get these big dust bunnies that I just pull out with my fingers.  I also turn it upside down and shake it once in a while too.
clean the heads with an alcohol prep, if
you have one, or take out the ink jet cartridge and using a gentle wrist motion, turn it up and down a few times and replace.
I would put a colon

Need help with cap after colon (:)

I have MSWord 2003. The first word after a colon (:) always capitalized the first letter and now for some reason it doesn't. I have checked Tools and can find no way to correct this. Any suggestions out there or someone else who had the same problem?

Need help with cap after colon (:)
It did automatically cap after a colon (:)up until a couple of days ago. My thinking now is the problem must be in Dragon. I upgraded to 9 Preferred and downloaded my medical terms. Guess it is a process of elimination.

Get the CMT prep guide. I studied the stuff I was rusty on like radiology.

Didn't study that much but the questions that were on the test were in the prep guide.  Good luck.  I am happy to be a CMT and proud of it and it does mean a little more money for me, and the cost was reimbursed by my employer.

For CURIOUS: You are not curious, you are paranoid and a sociopath
Are you referring to the sentence

'And HOW to you put a marker?'

where I typed a 't' instead of a 'd'?

It was just a TYPO!

I am an American MT!

It is so pitiful how PARANOID SOME American MTs have become, ESPECIALLY THE OLD ONES, fearing for their jobs and being afraid of getting the boot.

Trying to be 'expert linguists,' sniffing out various dialects, detecting some Indian hints, whereas they most probably live in rural areas or in cities with a population of 1,000 inhabitants.

So sad, so sad, what has become of the MTing profession?

Now, CURIOUS, start nitpicking my post.

There are colon cleaning "stores" where I live

You can go in and get a high colonic and come out feeling refreshed is the claim.

Did anyone see the Steve Martin movie with Sarah Jessica Parker where he was a middle-aged man trying to date an early 20's woman and maybe their first or second date was to go get one done.  She came out dancing and twirling in circles and he came out walking like he had been riding a horse!  Very funny scene!

Actually though, I think if you do something like this too often, it can have a negative effect on your intestinal health later in life.  I would recommend a daily dose of acidophilus (the same culture as in yogart) for a healthy colon and motility agent.  Papaya enzyme is another natural acid agent to improve digestion and helps with GERD as well.

If not doing a numbered list, you should be using a semi-colon.
Use the semi-colon (;), especially since you are likely using commas to separate dosage, quantity, etc.
As long as your colon keeps moving, it's not going to hoard materials in it. Eat right! nm

I use markers. i use semi-colon for pharses, which is where i put all my shortcuts at. sm
works a whole lot better than spacebar and only took me about a week to get used to the change when i switched from spacebar. FYI, i don't keep my thing open at the bottom either like some say they do. i move it to where i can't see it and just use memory so that i can go faster without selecting 1 or 2 or whatever pops up down there.

Anyone ever tried Dual Action Cleanse or any other colon cleansing products? sm
The infomercial was not pretty, and this guy focused way too much on BMs and such, but said that John Wayne died with 42 pounds of undigested material in his colon ... yuck!  Supposedly, you use this product and feel tons of energy and all that ... wondered if it was just more hype or maybe someone had actually tried it.  ?
Word hasn't capped after a colon since the 2000 version.
You have to manually cap with shift key or run a macro at the end of the report. You can also hit shift+f3 to change the case to upper.
I feel left out! Nobody picked on my errant comma that shoulda been a semi colon.

30 hours divided by four days equals seven-hour days. Most of us have to work pretty much every day
.
Working 6/hour days, 5 days/week I make
$42,000.00, but the work is there to make more if I want to.  I'm in the southeast.
2000 low days, 4000 busy days
Did 43,000 lines last month.   6 doctors.
You can "make a living" if you work 16-hr days, 7 days
and if you rarely buy anything but food and the barest essentials in clothing. My balancing act is so precarious that all it'll take is one of life's little disasters (rent increase, sick pet, major car repair) to pull the rug out from under me. Not a good feeling at all.
550-650 lph on average. Some days more, some days less. It all depends. nm

How? By working 12-hr days 7 days/week?

If it's a business letter you use a colon. if it's a personal letter you use a comma. nm

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

Spell as best you can or blank them and keep going. I've passed many tests when I've left blan

curious MT

Trust me you should hope that VR does not catch on too quickly!  It is very intense work, and you get paid squat for doing it!  And you still have to type either when the voice is not recognized, ie, as in when the dictators are residents and just coming in, and you get paid the measy sum to edit reports that require more transcription than editing, so far there is yet a formual to distinguish between this!  So count your blessings that VR is not making its wave across Amercia with the MT's until everyone catches on to the fact that it is not "easy money" and we need to be paid exactly the same amount of money whether we transcribe or whether we do VR.   Or the companpy uses some formula you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out!   Whether for personal use or for business use VR still needs to go back in the closet from whence it came!  Or the Nationals need to pay us a living wage to do the editing if the clients want VR.  Then I'll be more than happy to offer my 20+ years experience up to do as much VR as they want.  At the moment those of us that do VR are being grossly taken for granted and our knowledge and experience used without proper compensation, because we were not totally informed about the trials and tribulations of VR and just HOW much work it truly is.

Just curious
Did you contact the MT and try to find out what the problem might be?  With a Q.A. score that low (unless you're a comma freak) :) there is no hope.  Personally I hate doing Q.A. but I've done it.  I recall one MT that had a really low Q.A. I talked to  and asked how I might help.  Turns out she was a clinic MT (BIG difference) hired to do acute care on, of course, a production basis.  She was about to lose everything she owned trying to make it.  She ended up moving back in with her parents for a time and today so far as I know, she's a great MT.  She had potential, just lacked knowledge.  I think Q.A. has to realize that less than qualified MTs are hired routinely and this is not their fault.
Just curious, but

...how would you know what your company has to pay? In my experience, turnaround penalties were known by the account managers and senior management. It's a contractual detail, not public knowledge or something to be shared with transcriptionists. Then again, maybe you are in contracts, or account management, or maybe you are the CFO or COO. However, if all of your accounts truly incur no penalties, you should be buying lotto tickets, and please share the numbers with all of your friends here on MT Stars.

And yes, I've been in account management and senior management. It's not a pretty place.

Just curious
ditto your thoughts!
Just curious, but how old are you?
I barely remember Beatles.
Just Curious
What is it that makes the job so difficult for someone with as much experience as you have as an MT? I have thought about making the switch myself, and was just wondering.

just curious
Why is that there are 3-5 pages of whining about MQ and having no work and only 5-6 hits to tips on how to improve skills.  Why waste time writing these "open letters" and add to your Expanders or buy an Expander or ask for tips.  No one, not even MQ, owes anyone anything.  You have to make a way for yourself.  1200 lines per day is level I work.  My goodness, get a grip.  I think they are trying to tell you all something............They need production to stay AFLOAT.....May be the work is going to MTs who are grateful to have a job.
