the point is an IC does not have to commit
An IC decides when they work and it can be variable. An IC does not have to commit to a set schedule, no matter who determines the schedule. And that is what the companies are taking advantage of. If you read the ads, they are not telling you when work is available, they are telling you when they want you to work. Period. That makes you an employee. If they say first shift Tuesday through Saturday or anything to that effect, they are telling you when to work. That simply is not what an IC is. I am out of here now because today I am choosing to start working at 11:30 a.m. CST after choosing to take the day off yesterday. I work for a company that knows what IC means and honors it.
Why not just ask a local travel agent? You don't have to commit thru them. nm

If you keep to the schedule you commit to, you'll do fine
I had to get ShortHand and build my abbreviation dictionay to build my speed. The sound quality was fair, the platform okay. I was usually able to do my lines in less than my 8 hours and we ended up parting ways because they wanted me to work 40 hours a week even if I was able to get more than my minimum lines in less than 40. Things were better there when George (may he rest in peace) was there.
Cannot legally require you to commit time to them as an employee and then not pay you for that time.

Their skin is not a choice. To commit sodomy with a man is a choice.
I don't care if they are attracted to men or dogs or goats. I care that they act upon it.
