EMR's

I worked for a clinic where I went in and transcribed directly into the EMR system.  Had 2 out of 4 docs, then 3, then 4 and then 5 and it was too much and had to give it up with my other accounts.  The docs found that they could dictate much faster than typing in the notes even with all of the "templates" etc as typing is not their "thing" and providing patient care is.  Kaiser uses it and their patient's hate it as docs do not pay attention to the patient just keep typing into the computer.   Have another clinic that talks about doing it but the cost is prohibitive they say.  They also said that I would be kept on to do the transcribing either directly into their system or if we can upload it as some systems do allow that.  There is also problems with outside consults, labs, etc. if the systems are not compatible and all of that needs to be scanned into the system which takes a person and time -- just like filing.  Also if the system ever crashes and a nightly back up is not done, you lose everything.   So if the docs have any kind of backbone and do not wish to spend 2-3 hours typing, they will talk to the manager about keeping you on.  You may have to do in-house but it can be done.   That is my 2 cents for the day.
