What is the SUM dication and how does it different from what CareerStep offers? My community college offers Gatlin as their online MT school and I can't get any grants for it -- none are offered to anyone.

If you check the archives here, you'll see that Andrews and M-Tec are supposed to be the best training you can get.  I understand why everyone says that.  It seems to me that the only reason CareerStep is looked down on is because you don't have a live instructor and they don't use the SUM program as their dictation.

I'm going (completely online) to Everett Community College.  They use CareerStep as their training.  The huge benefit I see here is that I'll have live instructors and I get to use my Pell Grant!!  If you want more info on that please email me :)

If you go straight through Careerstep, the cost is around $1500.  The other 2 (Andrews & M-TEC) are around $3500-$4000.

If you go through Everett to use Careerstep, it runs about $4000 unless you qualify for grants like I did.  It will be free for me!!

Everett Community College
online has a transcription course and since it is a community college, should be able to get financial aid. Try that. Google it.
She said it was CareerStep. sm
Which I guess is one of the better schools ??  I don't know.  She claims she spoke to graduates who told her they were making $60,000.  If you look at their website, it really, IMHO, emphasizes the working at home to be with your kids aspect like no daycare costs.  I know a lot of MTs do that, but it can't be easy, especially 5 kids and a special needs child.  Oh and her husband is deployed in Iraq.  Also most of their partner employers outsource to India like Spheris and MQ.
Has anyone taken Careerstep's coding
course?  Good or not so good experience with course or getting coding job afterwards?  Thanx.
CareerStep. She should start with an MT education.
If she isn't willing to go through formal training, she's just not interested.

I hear CareerStep is good
I hear CareerStep is good, online, and they offer placement with companies guaranteed if you make 90 or better on your final.

I was blessed enough to get to train with a friend, work under her for 4 years, then went off on my own, but these days, school is an absolute must. Best of luck to both ladies.
I trained at CareerStep, and they partnered with
SLM financial to let me stretch the payments out over 5 years.  It seems like it was about $35 a month.  I was hired right out of school, and I feel that I good a very good basis for transcription with them.
Anytime I've tested, it's always been the same test on mttest.com, or careerstep. See if you c

A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.
