Gear player vs. bytescribe... which is the more versatile?

I am currently using start/stop, but the voice files I get it will not let me speed them up.  Dives me INSANE to listen to a sssssllllllllooooowwwwww dictator and not be able to speed them up.... actually would like to go whomp them up the side of the head .. but since that is not an option...

Looks like Gear player you can buy just the software, but Bytescribe you have to pay another 50 bucks and get the foot pedal.. no option that I could find not to.

Thanks for any suggestions you all might have to offer.

GearXport / Gear Xport / Gear Player

Hi!  Does anyone have a Gear Xport and/or Gear Player they are no longer using and could sell to me?  I thought I'd try and buy used before going new.  Let me know!

Thanks,

Traci

Anyone using Gear player?

Sounds like a really good package deal, anyone using it?  I am thinking of using the digital recorder and buying the gear player package.

TIA,

Sunny

Gear Player is also...

an  alternative.

gear player--sm
i downloaded the free 5 day trial of gear player to take a test.  Cannot get it to work.  The icon is on my desktop, but when i try to open it to drop the voice file in, it only appears for a few seconds and then nothing.  any ideas??
Gear Player is the best.
I have been using Gear Player for 4 years now and it just keeps getting better. It plays what I need it to play. I had tried StartStop before Gear Player and it was like I was back on Windows 95. Above all I love Gear Players support department, the guys are very friendly and can fix anything if you ever do need to call them.
Gear Player,

Gear Player, Transcription Gear, several places have those for sale.  Also on E-Bay.

GEAR PLAYER---I was going to put it on e-Bay, but...sm
Email me if you are interested. I'll give you a great deal on it! It was brand new when I bought it and used it only for about a month.

Please let me know either way. I need the $$. Thanks!
Gear Player is one that's used often. Need to purchase it. nm

I bought Gear Player
a few years back and it's been really good. Just throw the file in there and transcribe away. Check it out. Their latest model is probably even better.
Help with Gear Player linking
I'm trying to do a test file, which I haven't done in a long time, and the only footpedal I have is Gear Player.  The sound file was sent on Windows Media Player.  Are these compatible?  Because I can't get this footpedal to link to it.  Bear in mind I'm technically challenged and usually have help setting these things up.  I found a foot pedal test picture that lit up when I pressed each of the three footpedal controls, so the problem seems to be that I don't know how to link it to Windows Media Player, or else this foot pedal is incompatible.
VPEDAL AND GEAR PLAYER
Help plz.. does anyone use the VPedal (from Career Step) and use it with Gear Player? I can get it to work with Express Scribe, but not Gear Player. It it even compatible? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!
VPEDAL AND GEAR PLAYER
Thank you Gail! I am sure they can help.
Gear Player vs Express Scribe
could anyone please explain to me the difference between these two??  Express Scribe is free, but when am I missing something as to why I would pay to have Gear Player?  they seem awfully similar..thanks.
Express Scribe, Gear Player, etc.

I have used Express Scribe for years and love it. I had to restore my Win XP computer and now it will not play the .dss files.  I also have Express on my Vista without problems.  I have done everything that I know to do to get it to work, installed an older version, downloaded the .dss files, etc.  I am currently having to work on Gear Player or use my laptop to play the sound files.  What else is everyone using out there besides Express, Gear, or Bytescribe?? Any help would be appreciated!

Bytescribe player
You can just buy the player. I use it and found it to play all files even those pesky ds2 files from Olympus that I get, which nothing else will play. I also love the tech support; always get a response. I have used GearPlayer also in the past and found it okay, but the files it will play are limited. HTH.
Bytescribe is also a player, the platform is Bayscribe.

Bytescribe versus Start/Stop - which wav player is better? SM

I'm trying to decide which audio player software and pedal to purchase.  I'm also looking at GearPlayer.  I want something user friendly, universal to audio file types, and compatible with whatever service I end up with should I need to have my own software and equipment.

Thanks guys and gals!

How about downloading a trial version of Wavplayer from Bytescribe (or other wav player)....sm
and see if the .dvf files will work.   That could help isolate some of the problem.  Can you get them to play in Media Player?
I am not sure but I think Bytescribe and Expresscribe are similar. I have Bytescribe with a 9-pin
serial port for my foot pedal.  My foot pedal has worked fine with several different programs and proprietary software too, sometimes I have had to reselect/reset in in the proprietary programs, but it alwasy works fine.  You can ask the Bytescribe people though, and tell them what kind of foot pedal you have and they will make sure you get the correct version so it will work.  As for PlayAll it will not work if you have Bytescribe on your computer, at least this is what I have been told my 1 of my employers.  I was given a copy of the PlayAll but I can't get it to work, it will open up and I just right down the info I need from it for my records and blank notes, just won't "play" supposedly because I have Bytescribe.  I am not taking it off to see or not though. You need to find out what kind of wav files they are though because if the ExpressScribe will play them, then there is really no reason for you to buy Bytescribe too. --Good Luck.
Starting job using Olympus Player/pedal - does this have a good player with slow down speeds - I do

Until now I have always used company software with player included.  I hate to spend money and find out the player is mickey mouse!!

Thanks- you may e-mail me if you prefer.

Transcription Gear.....sm.......

Transcription gear
I use Olympus with the company I work for now and it works well. Transcription Gear has a system that I do not think is quite as expensive. There is Bytescribe as well, and Express scribe (which is free). I think almost any handheld recorder will work with these.

Now, could you kick my butt into gear? LOL
I don't wanna work today.  Not sure if it's the rainy weather or if it's just my total lack of motivation!

I purchased it through Transcription Gear
express scribe thing yet. Have too much work today to fiddle much with it. I appreciate everybody's advice and help on this.
Try Transcription gear.com website.

There should be an instruction booklet that came with the machine. Did you buy it new or used?

I got mine at Transcription Gear.

Transcription Gear FTP Question
Yes I leave Gearplayer and GearXport open all the time.  That's how i get my files (GearXport). Have used Transcription Gear and GearXport, and recently GearFTP for 8 years now and love it.  I, too, use Word XP but there are help screens in GearXport that help you write rules so that GearXport will direct the files to your clients.  Once the files are transcribed and sent via GearXport, I then send the client a notification to pick their files up on Gear FTP.  You don't have to do all that cutting and pasting.  The rule writing can be quite cumbersome if you have never done it, but the tech support staff at Transcription Gear are very helpful.  This really works great and will save you LOTS of time once you get your rules written.  Best of luck to you!
Transcription Gear/Xport- sm

We have been using this system for about a year, but have a recurring problem: We send our work through FTP but the office cannot always retrieve it and when I talk to the TG tech support they tell me that they can see that my work is "sitting in the FTP site and that the problem is with the doctor's office. This, of course, does not "sit well" with them and we are now setting up a meeting with their IT person, etc. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thank you

Transcription Gear has them. Listed under accessories, I think. NM

Transcription Gear user questions - sm

I just started using Transcription Gear/FTP and have some questions.

Do you keep TG open all the time? Do you keep Gear Export open all the time?

How do you send your work to the doctor? Right now I create my document in Word XP, save it, exit, and then go through several steps to paste the document to the medical records FTP site.  Seems like too many steps.

Any help with this and/or with TG in general would be most welcome.

Thank you.

nope i'm goin, i've got my hula gear
 weeebye ya'll
Transcription Gear would have to approve the transfer of license from
I don't even know if they allow this.  You should check into that first.
Thanks for all the feedback...time to kick it into high gear, I guess..nm

I have used a Digital Transcribe Station from Transcription Gear in lieu of a C phone just fine nm

Bytescribe

There has been a B I G change in bytescribe.  It seems to be all about money now, and no longer about good customer service/relationship.  I bought a call in system 4-5 years ago.  I no longer take the yearly service contract and had a question to ask.  I did not want anyone to FIX it, just answer a couple of questions.  I was told that to speak to a tech would be 75.00 (I guess an hour) and that they would call me back between 1 and 5 that day.  Not like this at first.

They at one time, told me about the 3 limit install on the wav software, however as of yet I have not had to pay, as I have bought more than 10 of them.

No, it's right from Bytescribe (sm)

Go here

https://bytescribe.net/WebStore/shopping.htm

And from that page click on DocShuttle on the left.  It will bring up different versions and you'll see there is DocShuttle Client for $99and DocShuttle Client with Dongle for $115.  You have to buy it with the dongle right from the beginning.  If you don't and just buy it without and run out of installs, they won't let you just buy the dongle.  You have to buy the whole thing all over again.  We all know that with computer failures and backup computers and new computers, etc., we definitely need more than 3 installs so I think for the small price difference it's worth it.

Yes I do. I have Bytescribe

and I have Expresscribe that I downloaded as well.  So does it sound like it would work, him emailing me voice files and then I would just open them and play them (is that how it works?) TIA!

need to know about Bytescribe
Is it user friendly? Easy to install? Thanks.
bytescribe
I have been using it as a trans - there are three versions, owner, dictator and trans.  It is pretty much like FTP, only work is automatically placed into a preset folder and you work out of that folder with your player - as for the documents - I use my own folders and attach the document, although you can use the program to devlop a document - one I return all the work I move the voice files into a different folder out of the way and then also move the douments that develop when attached into a done folder too - it sounds complicated, but it is not.  The documents in the bytescribe folders are backup for me - they "pop up" when I attach my word document to the voice file and send. Again, it sounds a bit much, but really no more than many other avenues of returning work - and again you get a backup for those "what ifs".
Bytescribe
I believe has such a system with DocShuttle etc..  I worked for a small company that used this with docking stations for the MD office
Bytescribe
I used Bytescribe's equipment when first starting. It worked great. I would make sure that they offer the option that you and any MTs working for you do *not* have to buy their DocShuttle software to get the dictations off the server. They also offer a pay as you go dictation server, never tried it though. Good luck! Let us know what you try. (I also tried Express whatever and it cut off my dictators every single time and you are right, they never gave me any explanation and the tech support was ridiculous!)
RE: Bytescribe
There is compatible issue with Bytescribe and Windows Vista. I have Vista.
I like Bytescribe

Question re: bytescribe please! sm

I am a newbie who has been working about 8 months now. I have a standard wav player and Express Scribe and Play All Extra. I am looking for a change in employers since my current job has lost another account. I applied, tested and have been offered a job that requires a bytescribe wav player. Is this another program I have to purchase to make my regular foot pedal work with their program? Please forgive me if this has been addressed before. I have been up all night working and just cant seem to find what I am looking for. I am a little confused about all the different programs for the foot pedals. Since I have Express Scribe and Play All is that okay, or is this bytescribe thing a whole ball of wax? Thank you so much for any help!

Beware of Bytescribe
Just a head ups about Bytescribe.  While the program itself is great, beware that it can only be reinstalled 3 times even on the same computer.  So, if you are unlucky enough to have to replace or reformat your computer, your Bytescribe program will no longer be of any use to you after your third instillation.  They will be happy to send you an unlimited license for an extra 109.00 after the fact!  Isn't that nice of them?  This information is not given to you until after you have made the purchase during the registration process.  I am now stuck with a several hundred dollar program that is useless.  I hope I can spare someone from wasting so much money.  I wish I would have been warned about this beforehand.

Beware Bytescribe

From register@bytescribe.com

"Our registration process is necessary because we sell foot pedals separately and because we deal with International markets.

In the registration agreement it states that the software can be installed up to 3 times.

We would like to keep you as a satisfied customer but we do have guidelines set by our company."

Beware Bytescribe

Yes, I have been trying to resolve this issue with them since yesterday.  They are not budging and I refuse to pay another 109.00.  I'm not sure if they just started it.  My software was purchased along with a pedal and headset about a year and a half ago.  I actually have the disk here at home.  In any case, I've filed a complaint about them to the BBB.  I'm not telling anyone not to buy it, I just want everyone to be aware of what you are really getting.  Had I known I could only install it 3 times (even on the same computer) I would not have bought it.

Bytescribe wavplayer
I have a Bytescribe wavplayer, but it doesn't fit into my speakers.  Does anyone know what kind of speakers I need to get, or do I need to drag the foot pedal into the store with me to try it out?
