Sounds like the Marines at your house! I'm really glad you "schedule" some quality time wi

your kids!  I think you are way harsh with your 15-year-old stepdaughter.  What's wrong with helping with homework?  Not giving her the answers, but sitting with her and explaining things?  I help my 14-year-old with his homework and I check everything he does for errors.  If he makes mistakes, I sit down with him and explained what he did and have him do it over.

As fars as my kids getting up on their own - my kindergartener gets up without the aid of an alarm clock because she is an early riser, but my teenager has to be gotten up and personally I don't see what is wrong with that.  They are TEENAGERS!

My kids have chores and earn an allowance each week.  They must keep their rooms clean.  My son takes out the garbage, cleans the bathroom, and helps me do the dishes.  My daughter takes turns helping me do the dishes and sweeps the kitchen floor and feeds the animals.

My kids are spoiled, but what's the point in being a working mom if you can't spoil your kids every now and then?

Glad you had a good time
Glad you thought the suggestions were helpful. :) I know some people probably think we are crazy but unless you are an avid camper you might not realize how much time can be spent just getting ready! Every little time saver you can find makes the trip all the more pleasurable when you don't end up exhausted just getting ready to go. :D
Glad to hear you all had a good time. :)

All the time! Glad I'm not the only one!!!

Glad I cherished my children's time
at home.  They are grown now, have children of their own.  Seems they were here for a few minutes, then grew and gone. Just dearly miss those little boys coming home from school, excited with news of the day, and all the bumps and bruises, bugs they would catch, their funny little stories, little nuances, and they were so humerous and made me laugh and joked around in their teenage years.  Am so glad I had those days, but would dearly love to have my children home on vacation.  Just wish parents would choose to ENJOY their children instead feeling that they are in the way.  In the way of what?  Working?  Goodness gracious, got a lot to learn.  I agree with the poster who said that children feel what you think they do not, and it will hurt them, and you, in the years to come.
I learned along time ago: My house, my rules. sm

I have been through the wringer, trying to keep my two older kids away from "bad influences."  But I have learned.

When they were younger, I simply said, "You can play with so and so outside, but he's bratty.  If he gets bratty outside,  he'll have to go home."

When they were teenagers, I simply set the "House Rules".  Abide by them, or out you go.  Funny thing was, the friends were more compliant than my own kids. :)

If my older kids brought a friend over to stay the night because he/she was "fighting with mom/dad,"  I'd say, "Sure you can stay, but not until you call your mom or dad and tell them you are here and that you aren't going anywhere and that you are safe for the night."

I heard on occasion, "Didn't your mom say NOT to do that?"  I guess I had more "control" than they had at their own houses and they felt good about having some limits.

My son who FINALLY moved out at 19 had a few new friends that came over one night and, as they were leaving, they said,  "We'll be back around 10:30!"  I said, "Sorry guys, this place closes at 10:00 on weeknights."  They didn't come back.

I have 2 younger ones, 14 and 10.  We have a pool.  My pool rule?  No towel, no towel.  You can swim, but you can "drip dry."

Funny thing is, I've collected well over 2 dozen towels in the past 2 years that I have no idea where they came from.  If it were me, the minute my child came home, I would have said, "And where is my towel?"  Some parents just don't stay on top of things, if you know what I mean.

Glad I'm not the only pokey one. I have a terrible time trying to reach 150 lph.
nm
Sorry, don't have time. Gotta go run around the house a couple of times. nm
:+
My "techies" come to the house and most of the time get it fixed here. They built the computer
:}
When I took a business trip one time, I came home to an immaculate house.
Then during the next few weeks, I couldn't find certain things like clothes, dishes, and items I kept on the counters. DH had decided to put all the dirty stuff out in the garage where the babysitter couldn't see it because he was embarrased by the mess he and the kids had made. There was mold and mildew on everything because he taped it inside boxes or stuffed it inside coolers, and he forgot to tell me about it.
You work full time, manage a house and cut 11 acres? No way man! Not me :)
NM
Good for her! In-house we used to get all the demographics--
Now I put in name, date dictated, time dictated, dictator ID#, billing #, copies (for which I- that is I, me, have to maintain the list and the #s), date transcribed, time transcribed, and work type and op or procedure date or service date (all three different fields--pick one depending on work type, which I have to maintain a list) -- God forbid they hire and pay a programmer, when the MT can do it as part of her duties and not get paid. We are being treated like dirt! I remember even 15 years ago, we would have had a cow if we had to imput this info ourselves! 15 YEARS AGO!!!!! My MTSO has PROMISED this for 2 years!! 2 YEARS! Keeps saying "if the hospital would pay for it." There is plenty of stuff that could be programmed on his end. I cry when I see an ad about what technology can do--the word processor (us) is being left totally behind. I feel like I'm on a Selectric with one of the letters missing, this makes me so slow. MTSOs--help out the poor woman! Most of the time. We need programming, too.
Or discpline time! My kids would be very sorry if they threw things at me or in the house. Two hours
is not too long for them to give you some space.  That's really sad for you, but maybe try to rein them in.  Can't hurt, right?
Good for you! Glad you said your husband! That was really nice!

I am so glad to hear you talk about VR in a good light
I have a jewel of a platform and you can make a decent salary. It is not garbage and like you said, the people here complaining are ones who do not have a good system. You have to be fast in scanning and hearing. If you are a slow typist to begin with, I have no idea how this would play into a person who does really good with VR. I do not fit that category and the people I have know that did VR did not either.
Glad I was able to help....I just keep thinking about my inspiration (friend from gym). Good luck!!
xx
So glad to hear your good news!!!! Eat a candy bar anyway :-) no message

Thanks everyone for the kind responses. I'm glad I posted. I have gotten some good leads.
And some good advice. Feeling better already!!

I'd take hung any day over 2 teens that like RAP!! UGH!

I need shock absorbers for my upstairs floors while they listen to their RAP downstairs.

Don't ask why I put up with it. I do because they don't drink or drug. They write and record.

gotta pick your battles.

Exactly what my DH used to say till he hung out with me for a while. - nm

Don't get hung up with the golden handcuffs. (SM)

It is so easy to convince yourself you cannot make as much money at a different company  or on a different account, or never find anything better, so you stay where you are, taking all the abuse in the world.  In management, this is called the Golden Handcuff, and they rely on it to keep the same employees, never give a raise, never give respect, and just continue to walk all over you.

In this profession you are very mobile if you can transcribe at all.  It may take a month to get used to a new system, a new account, or whatever, but your self respect is worth it in the end.  There are a lot of companies out there that actually do appreciate employees, and it certainly does not seem to be any of the companies who are mentioned frequently on these boards.

I changed jobs about a month ago, thought I would never learn, but in a week I was making far more with a small MTSO than I ever did with a large company.  Treat yourself to a new beginning and a new year.

Google William Hung
American Idol watchers - Unbelievable, this is something my hubby told me, did not see in any newspaper, ET, TV news, not one word.
Are documents set to print getting hung up

A few years ago, Atlanta in-house average was about $12-$15/hour, plus good bennies. nm

By the way, as of about 5 years ago, Wellstar was with a service.  They might not even have in-house MTs.  Hope so for  your sake :).

Is $15 an hour a good hourly rate for an in-house office position?

nm

This took me to the William Hung library, am I in the right place?

Saw that y'day on VH1 top 100 things about Christmas. Definitely NOT Hung! :) nm

If a job can be rejected, refused, or hung up on, it's being cherrypicked. nm

Especially for Iowa, that is pretty good. UI can get good over time, but that's because of the u

William Hung. see message for the juicy details.

I tell you I thought I died and went to Heaven when William Hung sung that song, Shake your bon bon!

Ricky Martin, MOVE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I do believe she is good enough, and has more than proved that time and time again. NM

Who had time to read?LOL I only get a chance to read This Old House once in a while. (nm)

That is a good time, probably take me 10-12 or - sm
maybe longer. Granted if they are easy I can easily do 15 minutes in one hour (or more, 24 minutes is the most I have done in 1 hour), but when you get tired, bored, etc, it seems to take a lot longer. I'd say you are right on target.
Ooh, that sounds good. What time should I be there?
We're probably having leftovers.  Tacos, sloppy joes, potato ham soup, and kielbasa.
LOL, 4th time huh. Well, uh, good luck with that huh!!!! LOL. nm

I use this one all the time, good for all states.

This is a good time of year to buy.
There are usually good sales in the week before Christmas when retailers are hoping to improve their bottom line. Also, if you wait until January, you may find good bargains from those trying to move stock during a slow time. Personally, I like my Dell. I've had three of them now and really have not had any problems. You can now get them at Staples, too.
The religion issue came at a good time. sm
My daughter is 10.

We're in the car and she wanted to call her friend Jessica on the cell phone.  She said, "It's after 2:00, so they're already home from church."

Then she says, "You know, mama, I don't mind going to church with them, but I hate going up and eating that yucky bread."

I said, "They had you go up for communion?"  and she said, "I think that's what it is.  The guy in the robes puts a yucky cracker thingy in your mouth, but they call it bread for some reason."

So I said, "You don't have to go up and take communion, you're not Catholic.  I could talk to Jessica's parents and tell them that you aren't a Catholic and you shouldn't go up and take communion."

She said, She said, "Well, I'd feel stupid just sitting there when everyone else went up.   I'm not going to go someplace bad if I do the Catholic thing and I'm not really a Catholic am I?"

I said, "Of course not.  You just don't have to that's all."

She said, "It's okay, I don't really mind it that much."  After a few minutes she said:  "Hey wait a minute, we're not JEWISH ARE WE?!!!"

Another half hour on the different faiths and beliefs and the fact that it doesn't matter what you choose, but that it is a private, personal choice, and that one should never try to convince another person that their way of thinking is the "right" way.

She thought it wasn't a good thing not to have a Christmas tree, but then thought that Hannukah was "really cool" because the kids didn't have to wait to open a present.  Then she said, "Well, we could light a candle every night for the Jewish kids because they don't have a Christmas tree and then maybe we could just open a present."

I said, "Nice try kiddo."

Out of the mouths of babes!

Whatever, then may you all have a good time in your pool of name calling. (nm)

I'd throw him out, change the locks, he'll figure out what to do.

Don't look back.
Hey! I'm having a good time. Jade East
men's cologne?  Anyone remember that?  I remember buying my first boyfriend some for Christmas (1966).  The bottle was a special edition, shaped like a pagoda!
A good expander pays for itself in no time at all.
Word files corrupt too easily so be sure to keep a backup for when you've lost all your shortcuts.

Also remember that you can only use autotext in Word and you're working "harder not smarter." JMHO.
Very good ideas! Thanks for taking the time to share.

Thank you for taking the time to post this good advice. NM

Oh, goodness! Soak him in the tub for a good long time.
Try a little dish soap on it.  I wouldn't advise any harsh chemicals because you don't want to risk a rash or anything.  Tomorrow's picture day here, too.  My kid decided to rub his blue ink hand stamp on the center of his forehead instead of leaving it on his hand.  The teacher stamps their hands with an ink picture stamp every day if they're good.  A sticker would be better because my son always has ink on his hands and face now.  Lots of soap, then maybe cover it with makeup?  Oh, goodness.  My cheeks hurt from laughing at this one.

You people are having a real good time condemning me....

Don't you know that you can DEACTIVATE your current OS when you upgrade to the next level?  Obviously not. But then, most people here don't seem to be all that computer literate. I asked a couple of computer questions below which got absolutely NO answer.

Don't go jumping to conclusions that someone is a "scammer" and "ruining it for everyone else" until you do your homework.

Good things take time. (this is addressed to OP, BTW) My first 15 years or sm
so of MT was without the benefit of using an expander. When Expanders became the norm, I was reluctant to try, thinking that it would be more cumbersome than by not using it at all. Was I surprised and pleased I had ventured into the Expander world.

Since you're at home you can add entries on your free time, even if you do 5 or 10 at a time, when there is no pressure on you. Start out with expanders for "the patient," "-year-old," the names of your doctors, anything that is repetitious. You will be surprised how much time this will save you. My initial expander, PRD, actually calculated saved Keystrokes and productivity. Back then I was saving 30%!

The expander is especially helpful for those crazy terms that are hyphenated or have camel caps, those that I always had to look up to check myself. Create your brief form by just using straight lowercase, for instance, duoneb for Duo-Neb (or d-n).

Speed will come, don't worry. Good luck to you!

(Posted in the wrong place--I always do that!) This is in response to OP.

I'm having a hart time lately staying motivated and getting a good count,

I work for a national. Most of the time the voices are pretty good, but

I have been getting some of late that have background noices, door slamming, people talking,  Sometimes the doc will stop talking but the noices sound so close to him that it is annoying.  Do you think the sound card would interfere with my company's computer?  It sounds nice to have even though it does not help the background stuff.   I guess that is a good question for tech.  Thanks again!

Any suggestions for a good MT for part time other than MQ as far as a nice company to work for. I
think it is time for a change about now.
