I just got a job at my local hospital for prn.  I think this is probably the best option for this type of employment.  I use my own equipment and work when I can.  They will call in the event of an emergency situation, but it was agreed upon that I will not be available during my regular work schedule.  I even got a higher hourly rate due to working prn.  I'm hoping it will be a really good, long-term situation.  IMO, it would probably be much more difficult for a company to offer this type of work situation due to tighter scheduling requirements, but I suppose it wouldn't be impossible.  Good luck with your search.  HTH
