How can I tell?

I had something like this (think it was the AV 2009 thing) happen the other day. I was trying to close it out when it appeared as though it was loading something onto my computer, as if I had accepted it.

I have not noticed any odd behavior with my computer since then, but I would like to know if I did get something from that or not. - I only have a free version of Norton Antivirus through Google (which I think checks bare minimum).

Is there somewhere I can check for this thing and anywhere to get a more thorough free antivirus (can't afford to pay for one right now).
