How many authors do you have daily?

I'm with a small MTSO and for quite a while have been on an account with about 10 doctors, mostly ESL.  I was very comfortable with them.  I have been trained on three accounts, one with maybe 6 and then another very large account, but they kept me primarily on this account.

Recently I was switched to one of the other accounts - no ESL, but this last pay period I had 38 different authors!!  Am having a hard time getting comfortable, and there's other problems , but for this post I just was hoping to find out, on average how many authors are others doing?

Maybe I was really lucky before with just 10 docs - ?

This site lets you type in three or more letters of the drug, and it pulls up everything with those letters.  It's great for when you only hear part of the drug.

Daily work is exactly what the word DAILY means --> work that comes in on a daily basis.  No days pass by without an empty queue.

I must be with the wrong companies then.

What was dictated:   "He had normal fundi bilaterally."

What I typed:  "He had normal FUNGI bilaterally."

Mental image that conjured up:   Dude with large mushrooms sprouting out of his ears!     

I was thinking about paying the $48 but then I thought there are only limited amount of people who will pay so probably not as good as MTStars.  It was fun though before they started charging and if they only charged half as much they would draw more people.  $48 is way high when other boards are free.

G2, P2.  Her pregnancies were uncomplicated.  She has not seen a gynecologist in over two years, but she does get her mammogram daily.    Uhhh.... I don't think so Mr. MD!!!   You couldn't get me to do that daily if ya paid me!

Kinda nice to get lost and just veg with my Law & Order and CSI addictions :)

Obviously, I'm in the minority since they seem to come up with more and more reality shows .... I admit to watching the Biggest Loser a couple of times, but I can't imagine being "hooked" and watching it all of the time, sitting on the edge of my seat. 

I lost all my reference books in a fire and I can't afford to replace them all at once.  I am buying a couple of books each pay check and I've been trying to decide what I need the most.  So far I have gotten a Dorland's Medical Dictionary, Surgical Word Book, and Radiology Word Book because I do radiology a couple of times a week. 

So to all you acute care MTs out there, what books do you find yourself using on a daily basis?

Many, many months ago I somehow figured out on this site how to receive a daily digest through email each day and I enjoy that.  Now I would like to tell a couple MTer's how to receive this Daily Digest as well, but am not able to find the directions on this site again.  If anyone could tell me how to sign up for the Daily Digest, would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks. 

Is it normal for an IC to be called often for emergency reports that need to be completed within a short amount of time - one to two hours.  Is this normal practice?  I get these calls fequently and it makes it difficult to complete the work I was doing, and/or I may be out on my own time when these phone calls come in.  I tend to work best in the evenings so I do most of my chores, etc., during the day.   

I know a lot of us now come here since MTD decided to institute fees, but that board is so valuable that it makes it worth it--only if other transcription company owners keep it active. It's definitely not what it used to be but those who have stuck with it sure have great camaraderie and help one another with issues just like this one you are facing.

I have two Internal Medicine docs that average 25 to 35 minutes per day which equals about 500 to 600 lines each.  (time to do each tape 1 to 1.25 hours per tape)     Monthly line count is about 15,000 to 16,000 per month average .

Two oncology surgeons that dictate three days per week -- one is 25 to 30 minutes per day which can equal up to 1000 lines as a  lot of letters and consults the other surgeon is shorter about 10 to 15 minutes and equals about 300 to 400 per day. (time to do tape -- long ones about 1.5 hours and short about 20 to 30 minutes -- good money maker)  Monthly line count is about 11,000 to 12,000 per month

Plastic surgeon -- short chart notes only 10 minutes = 100 lines per day - 3 days per week.  Only get about 1000 lines per month if he has some letters.

Hand surgeon - some IME's, chart notes - 2 days per week depends but usually about 30 to 40 minutes per day.    About 4500 to 5000 lines per month.

Psychologist -- 3 to 5 psych consults - ADHD children - 35 to 40 minutes per report with accompanying letter about 600 to 700 lines per report/letter.  (takes me about 1.25 hours per report/letter)  About 4500 lines per month.

I have been doing these for so long I can type them in my sleep. 

You just gotta push through.  I've noticed that as my kids get older, it has gotten somewhat better.  I have a 9 and 11 year old and they have gotten to the point of seeing after themselves while I'm working.  They were 3 and 5 when I started and it was really tough.  Now If they make a mess, they clean it up themselves.  Unless the house is on fire, someone is dying, etc. they are to leave me alone when the headset is on.  I have had to really draw the line with them.  It didn't happen overnight, it took quite a while for them to understand.  Fortunately my husband understands all this and has really helped me work with them on this issue. 

Friends and family on the other hand haven't been so easy to train.  I screen my calls with caller ID and let the machine get the ones I don't have time to deal with.  My machine has a message stating that "I am working at the moment and am unable to answer your call.  Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible."  I have also had a put a sign on my front door stating "Please Do Not Disturb.  I am currently working and unable to visit at this time.  Please come back after 4:00 p.m., I will be available then."  I had to do this because people just couldn't seem to get it.  Just because I was at home, they thought they could just drop in.  I even have some to still ring the doorbell because they think that sign isn't for them.  But you know what...I feel that is very rude and disrespectful of them.  They can sit out there all day for all I care because until I'm finished working, I won't answer.

Your not alone in all of this.  I believe this is what most of us who work at home go through.  Eventually it will get better but you must put some rules into place for everyone and enforce them.  I know with very young children it is hard for them to understand this but if you begin now helping them understand, then it will get easier as they grow.  Also, if you have older children that can help with the younger ones, give them an incentive to help you out.  You've just got to be creative with it and find what works for you.

medical problems, diagnoses, treatment, that nurses do.  I question my nurse practitioner, constantly, about why she is prescribing certain medications for me.  She seems to have a lot less knowledge of these medications than I do.  (btw, she resents it). 

Does anyone know the going rate right now for daily line quota? 

Just started a new job that uses Escription/Edit script.  I have had some problems with it here and am wondering if anyone can give me some insight.  The tech team isn't available when I am online working, and I was hoping to work tomorrow when again no tech people are available. 

First issue is I am using Express Scribe to play the audio.  I have some issues with that I think as sometimes it says the file isn't there but it is in my Express Scribe... I'm assuming I need to manually load each audio file after the text has loaded.  Is that right?

Next problem is when editing and I play it on the Escription audio the red boxes go across each word, ect.  Then when I have to stop it to change something it all goes screwy and words double up, lines multiply and it looks like a big black mess and I can't read anything.  WTH is that? 

Anyone have advice on any of this stuff?  I've used Emdat in the past and had no troubles with that at all.  I've heard such great things about Escription, but right now I want to throw the whole computer along with it out the window!
