I just bought a pair of Able Planet (Lynx) NC Headphones I'll give you a great deal on! SM
I did a ton of research and found that many preferred these headphones over the Bose. They were actually more expensive. I paid over $300.00 for these! The only reason I purchased these was because I could charge them on my Dell account. They really are awesome. I can't even hear myself type when I turn on the NC feature. They are comfortable, but after 18 years as an MT, I've just gotten used to the stethoscope style or earbuds.

If you'd like to contact me, I'll give you an offer you can't refuse!
A big bowl of Cheerios for me. sm
Turkey for hubby.  Turkey puts me to sleep and can't be tired. Trying to get caught up. Getting nowhere.
Operating with only one beater in the bowl.

SUPER BOWL COUNT-DOWN!

put a little white vinegar is a bowl and set it out.
Vinegar is a great neutralizer.  I always have my stove exhaust fan on when cooking odorous foods and if possible I open a window.   We had someone housesit for us who smoked in the house, even though they were told they couldn't.   I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke and we had to wash all the surfaces with vinegar.   I had a used car dealer tell me one time when I was complaining about a smell in a used car to cut an apple in half and put it under the seat, so maybe an apple would work too.
Super Bowl is on but I have to work.....
I hear everyone out front watching and having a good time.  Well, they probably think I'm upset because I have to be back here working, but secretly I'm GLAD I have to work.  I'd rather watch reruns of Mayberry RFD than football.  I'd even rather have to work!

We just got done having our Super Bowl Party
My friend and I usually don't watch, I don't like football, but we always have a fun party. This game was actually exciting. And me being from NY, I was glad the Giants won.
Food coloring in the bowl....they LOVE it!

I don't, but my puppy does. Not for me, sm
but I think they look nice if not taken to extremes.  Just be sure the "artist" is legitimate.
On what planet?
First, relatively few people stay in the same place for 15 years, and even if they did, the technology would not stay the same for 15 years.  In addition to learning all sorts of specialty terminology over the years, tech savvy would include going from a Selectric with a baseplate (minimal memory), to an IBM mag-tape, to an IBM 5520, to two different types of Lanier No-Problem, to a Wang; to a PC with WordStar, then MuliMate, then WordPerfect, then Word; PC-Dart, DocQScribe and Transurfer not to mention Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows XP.  There are probably others I've forgotten!  I'm afraid the letter writer is too willing to believe that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.  Or is it a manifestation of not wanting to invest in employees?  It's always somebody else's job to do any sort of training or re-training at all, apparently.
Puppy update from below - sm

Thanks everyone for your advice and support.

I was a little surprise this morning when the neighbor guy knocked on my door.  I was expecting to be read the riot act or something but got just the opposite.

Turns out that the guy is the girls father but the woman who I assumed was her mother is actually the aunt (father's sister).  His wife died in a car accident 3 months before they moved here.  The girl was in the car with her mother and younger brother.  Dad was out of town on business and it took them almost two full days to find him because the girl was in shock and refused to speak for almost a month after.  Both her mother and her baby brother (3 years old) died in the accident.  The aunt is living there to help him with the daughter he said the girl has had severe psychological problems since the accident.

He was very apologetic for going off the deep end yesterday and that he normally is a rational man.  I really felt bad for the guy.

He also told me that he appreciated us letting his daughter come over and play before but would understand if she was not welcome back.  Said that his daughter completely withdrew from her friends at her old school and she is still in grief counseling twice a week.  Playing with my kids was the first time since the accident that she had made any effort at socializing.

I never would have suspected that she had been traumatized this way.  She was quiet and didn't say much about her family but gave no indication that this had happened.

The guy was here long enough to basically pour out his life history and I truly felt sorry for him and even more for his daughter.

I'm still going to be very watchful for now but there's room for a second chance after him having made the effort to clear the air and explain things.  I think I will just sit on this for a few days and then invite the three of them over for dinner in a few days and try to start over.

I may be a sucker I know.   I would rather have a friendly relationship with my neighbors and if we can do this, well, it would be better for everyone.

How was your puppy and your trip?
Been wondering.  Hope everything went well.
Not on this planet, baby
Wake up and smell the coffee.
I had a daschund that did when she was a puppy,
until her tail got caught in my foot pedal and it took me a while to get out.
Problems with puppy

My dog Snoopy is scared of my father. We ahve had her for almost two years now and whenever my father comes into the room, she cowers and runs into my room. She stays in here all day long while my sister and I are at school, and my mother is at work. But the wierd thing is, that at night, she is his best friend. She doesn't show any signs of nervousness or anything. Any suggestions? Does she have some sort of a mental problem?

I feel like I'm from another planet!

What ARE you guys talking about?  It is intriguing, but it's driving me crazy.

Everyone on this planet deserves the right
to a decent life with their families. Offshoring the jobs in this country is going to slow destroy us. Most of our skyscrapers are owned by the Japanese. Customer Service for companies has been taken over by foreign countries . This country has so much and is so great simply because this country was created by hard work and determination. Every piece that we give away takes away from us and our children and their children, and so on. It is not a matter of wanting someone to suffer because we are not a greedy country. We do so much for other countries. But, if we don't start thinking about ourselves, we are going to speak Chinese, Japanese, and English will be the second language.
i'd worry more about that's getting into the food, from the bowl. Microwave doesn't sound

Keep a shallow bowl of apple cider vinegar on the counter.
This is something my mom did - worked for her, works for me. I set a small, shallow bowl of vinegar on the back of the stove or tucked into a corner on the cupboard. It cuts the odor down to almost nothing and keeps it gone. Plus, it's a whole lot cheaper than the over-perfumed stuff from the store.
I just dump them in a covered bowl with vinegar and sliced onion. nmx

My gosh. You and puppy are VERY lucky.
Definitely keep that kid out of your yard now. Good luck!
So glad you had the video going or they would have taken your puppy. sm
Moral of the story:  Don't let your puppy play with kids unsupervised.   Look into puppy class/puppy kindergarten in your area.  Vet's office should be able to tell you where they are.  They are fantastic for socializing puppies with other dogs, kids, and adults.  Just completed class with my puppy.  Sad to think how many good pups have been put down due to behavior of naughty kids/adults too.  So happy this worked out for you and your kids.
I'm sorry, but why would you refer to ?'s about ones puppy or what's for dinner
Not trying to start a flame or anything, but what's wrong with a few non-transcription questions here and there? It helps break up the monotony of the job, don't ya think?
LOL! Yes Bama is its own little sin-taxed planet!
LOL!
Only use Purina - my puppy loves it! nm

Where is this job? On this planet of MT? Holy crap!
as Frank Barone would say.
or by your conception, you could feed your son to your puppy.

What planet are you on? Did you read the post

Revising that puppy tonight!
That is what I thought that I might do, I just needed a nudge. Thank you!

I am determined not to give this career up! I just might have to give up the company I work for. (big loss since I haven't had any work and they are dodging my calls, e-mails, IM's, etc)

Thanks again for the pep talk and the feedback. I needed that. -M
Please keep the puppy away from that little girl. I don't like the sound of it. Good for you sm

with the camera.  Keep that video for a long time!  People's memories have a way of fading.

Shelties are the sweetest, gentlest dogs, but their instinct is to nip feet in an attempt to herd.  Have fun with your new sweetie!

Good luck, but if it was me, I'd keep the puppy away from the little girl sm
when she comes to dinner.
MQ is simply the most corrupt MT company on the planet.

Watch and see MQ implode.  From one who knows from the inside looking out.

For those who declare their love and loyalty to MQ, it's not reciprocated and the plans in the works by the MQ constantly changing management will soon let you see just how little they care about American MTs.  It's really kind of sad and the only hope for MQMTs is MQ being bought out.  Why do you think they keep changing management?

Same planet as you, hon! And you're TRAINING the program right now. Duh!
That's the whole process per individual dictator, per individual account.  Takes a wee bit of fine tuning, and in a few months, its PERFECT. Just minor editing. Wake up and smell the coffee.  You're training it and teaching it! You're not seeing the finished product, cause it doesn't need you anymore! Some of you just post so foolishly - and anyone could know the facts if they just paid attention and asked questions! You are training ASR and when you're done training it, its 1000 times better than the average skilled MT these days!
But do you believe this is the only person on teh planet you could have been successfully married to
I doubt it.
April, my 5-1/2 month old bichipoo puppy.

Aliens from the amoral Planet Roche
You are clearly educationally sub normal. Has Accutane destroyed so many neurons inside your head that you think it's safe? If you want to go on taking this stuff, despite all the risks, that's your look-out but kindly allow the Food and Drug Administration to protect the lives of other people. You'll probably be gaga within five years and dead within ten, so we won't have to read any more of your rubbish.

Do you have any idea how many people this drug has killed (and not not just through suicide) or how many lies dermatologist-lackeys and Roche have told about it? Hundreds have committed suicide and tens of thousands have suffered permanent damage. Go to www.accutaneaction.com for details of independent studies on the drug and information about the villainous manufacturer. [Described as "No 1 Corporate Criminal" by a leading business magazine.] It wasn't Saddam the USAF should have been bombing in 2003: it was b*****ds like Roche. Drug companies kill many times more Americans, every year, than Bin Laden did in 2001 [and, besides, we know that the war in Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. It was all about oil production and prices].

At the end of the day, Accutane is unnecessary, certainly for mild or moderate acne and, in the overwhelming majority of cases, dermatologists were prescribing it- against the terms of the drug's license- for such conditions.

In the final analysis, Acne, no matter how bad, is not a life-threatening condition and is certainly not worth the risk of brain damage; turning your baby into a barely human freak-show; being chemically castrated; or ending up with a CFS-type illness through mitochondrial damage and dying prematurely. [There are several other treatments, which are more effective than Accutane and much, much less dangerous. Drug companies and (ever-conservative) doctors don't want anyone to know about them.]

The list of "side" effects is a very long one. In fact, Accutane has one of the biggest entries of all time, in Webster's Physicians Desk Reference. It's no wonder an FDA official labelled Accutane as the fourth or fifth most dangerous legal drug.

By selling patients a chemotherapy drug, as if it were a teaspoonful of cod liver oil, Roche have made themselves the Nazi war criminals of the late Twentieth Century. I'll qualify that statement, in a moment.

It was not a huge shock to learn that Hoffman-La Roche is a Swiss, family-owned firm. After all, it was old, Swiss family firms, which melted down gold teeth from the death camps; and fenced paintings, stolen from Jews. Their quaint, family-owned government [Das Schwytzerdeutsches Reich?] allowed the Wehrmacht to transport anything it liked into Italy, extending WW2, there, by eighteen months. To the Swiss, life means nothing and money means everything. That was true in the 1940s and it's still true today. The Swiss government even threatens corporate whistleblowers with jail, so close is the relationship between government and big business. Has anyone ever thought of a imposing a de-nazification program on Switzerland, so that it might end up as liberal as (western) Germany?

Now back to the alleged similarity to war criminals.
Like Josef Mengele, who asphyxiated Jewish children at 40,000 feet or froze them to death in baths of ice, Hoffman-La Roche didn't obtain INFORMED consent.

At least, it can be said that Mengele's research had practical benefits for Luftwaffe pilots. He may have been mad, perverted, evil and all the rest but he did it for "the Fatherland" and carried out research on sound scientific principles. Roche, on the other hand, were only ever interested in making more and more money and bought "evidence", every time cracks started to appear in their reputation.

They lied about what their drug really was and covered up its side effects. They hired "scientists" and doctors from various parts of the World and bribed them to tell the regulatory bodies that Accutane was safe. [These people belong in jail too, as "collaborators".]

Roche even laughed, in internal memos which flew around its American HQ in Nutley NJ, at how ignorant the outside World was of the horrific side effects, particularly the teratogenic [monster-creating] effects on the unborn. How would you like it, if you ended up with half a brain? Oh, you already did. Sorry.

This display of arrogance was their downfall. It was when these memos were leaked to the FDA, that a raid was staged and computers and documents seized. That is why such stringent controls were placed on the use of Accutane. In effect, even the manufacturer was admitting (in private) that it is lethal.

Because of the company's deceit and dishonesty over many years, the patients (or more likely their parents) were misinformed and weren't in a position to take an INFORMED decision about whether to take Accutane.

At the end of the day, a child murderer is still a child murderer, whether he lives in a luxury mansion near Basel and is a "pillar of society" or he is associated with a discredited, demonic regime. Everyone should be equal, before the law.
To Dog's Day Puppy MT - please read my post below! Creepy flowers.
I didn't want it to get buried in the old thread below, because I'm really worried about you.  It must have just been me, but when I read that you found the flowers on your steps, and from your own garden, it just gave me the creeps.  Don't know why, but it sure did.  She (someone?) been's sneaking around your yard, and though it looks like a good intention, I still find it unnerving.  PLEASE be careful! I'm not the paranoid type, but something just doesn't sit right with me about those flowers...
Your planet? did you know there were people who needed medication who didnt have it?

I'm afraid my cat, my baby, doesn't have much longer on this planet

She is almost 20.  Her fur is matted, cause she doesn't groom herself anymore, I've cut off what I can without cutting her.  She doesn't hear well, and I have noticed in the past few weeks that she doesn't see well either.  Thankfully, she is still eating and yelling at the dogs, so I guess she feels okay, but I cry just writing this, cause I know I will be kind of lost without her when the time comes.

Is rad a whole different animal (sm)
when it comes to transcribing it? I would like to expand my specialties, but have never done rad before. Any info would be appreciated! Also, can it be learned just by doing, or would I need more thorough training, i.e.; more schoolin'?
to ANIMAL ADVOCATE
Please note my response to your query waaaay below where the original thread started, again thanks for your interest.
animal update

i am the OP on thread below re CRUELTY CLARIFICATION and just wanted to say thank you to all who responded .... have not recently come across a such a large, and largely POLITE - WOW!!!!!! -- and informative group in a long time.  this information will stay with me for a long time and i plan to share it with others.  did not know how ignorant i was.  am not by any means a bleeding heart.  it's a tough world and you have to be tough -- but the way we apparently treat these animals in the year 2005 is PATHETIC, just pathetic, and there is simply no need for it.

to those who say 'but this is a consumer-driven industry," yep you are right, but you know what?  consumers like to be INFORMED.  we don't like to feel that someone or some entity is trying to pull a fast one on us, and i STRONGLY feel that if every child in america -- and the child's uninformed parents and grandparents -- KNEW the real deal, the pressure would be on IMMEDIATELY and things would change in the industry faster than martha stewart's gonna get out of her ankle bracelet.  Before anyone says Yeah but there goes the economy, well i don't think so because if i knew that i could get chix at the store from happy chickens versus what we are 'offered' now, as well as happy cow meat (look at how successful the California dairy industry has been on their little ad campaign, hmmmmm?) vs what we have now, i'd be willing to pay more.  not double, but more!  i think anyone except the poorest of the poor would, too.  and the same government that is subsidizing the cruel farm animal conditions could subsidize the poor for their better quality meat, instead.

anyway, those are my thoughts.  i really really appreciate all of you smart people telling me something i didn't know, and that's no bull.  great big kudos to all of you who kept the thread polite, too.  'night.

OT: for animal lovers
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/finnegan.asp
why keep your animal on a chain 24/7

Going off topic from your cat post for a minute... I never understood that..especially with dogs. I think it is cruel for a dog to be chained 24/7 with someone who will rarely walk it.

As far as your cat, we have had outside cats since I was a little girl and they always came back. In fact, I had one (an old "barn cat") that would leave for months at a time lol and come back.

Keep your hopes up and don't stop looking!

Animal question...sm

I was always under the impression that cats had to be at least 6 months old before they could be "fixed".  I was on the SPCA website for our area last evening reading their info and it said kittens older than 6 weeks must be spade or neutered within 6 weeks of adoption.  Isn't that a little young?

Just curious.

Animal contacts
If you are in need of a veterinary ophthalmologist, it is best to check with your local vet to see if there is one in the area.  Animals do not wear contacts for the obvious reasons.  Instead, they get lens transplants from donor animals that were healthy when euthanized (sad I know).  There are also Doggles sun glasses that dogs wear.
If you are an animal lover - then please don't take Prempro - sm
I worked in a gynecologist's office for 8 years. It was beyond dispicable when the Wyeth drug rep would come in. This was at the time when TV shows were always doing the "hidden camera" things - and of course, the pregnant horses, abuse, catheterizing, etc. This also came at a time when drug reps were no longer allowed to use company money to take docs on trips, expensive dinners, theater tickets, etc. Needless to say, our Wyeth rep made a bundle off of Premarin and Prempro and to make up for all the media hype, she was going to all the gyn docs and sending them on trips, spa packages for their wives, nice dinners, etc. And the docs kept prescribing it.
Agree...no animal has to suffer for me...
I have been using the wild yam - so far, so good. ?
fellow animal lovers/MTs

boycott Iams pet food - they have been charged of horrible animal cruelty in testing their food, see web site below.

Call Animal control

Okay then, should you kill every animal that scares you be it a dog or - sm
or a cat....does not make sense. They are animals, they just want to be left alone. Some people scare me sometimes, should I go out and shoot them? People need to be a bit more tolerant. I am not a huge fan of snakes either but I will never understand the killing of any animal unless it is for food or if the animal attacks.
