There was a time when AAMT sucked all the oxygen out of several efforts to start a more MT-oriented organization...or one that took the "A is for American" seriously. (Anyone note that it was dropped in the new name? Not an accident). Any time someone suggested a new organization, someone would rise up on her haunches and say "We already have AAMT! We don't need anything else!" and that would kill it.
Now, I think that there's the hint of revolution in the air. I certainly believe that AHDI is worthless and would go further to say that the Book of Style is one of the worst examples of a "standard" that I've ever seen - and I work with a lot of standards in the technical realm. It's filled with ambiguities, self-evident pronouncements and, in some cases, unpardonable meddling on matters that are purely stylistic.
So, when does the tea-party begin?
