I've done it on an occasional hour here and there

Posted By: but not 8 hr/day every day on 2008-01-01
In Reply to: Lines Per Hour - IC MT

When I was working for one MTSO that had a lot of normal templates, I looked forward to the oupatient surgery days because I could get 800-900 lph for up to 3 hours at a time, but could not mantain that consistently. I was able to do about 500-600 lph consistently if I worked the evening or graveyard shift where I could hit a groove. I've been MT'ing for over 15 years and have been using my Expander 10 years. This was an acute care setting and covered 3 hospitals.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I've spent over an hour on this.

I know. I've never even heard of a VR job paying by the hour. It isn't QA at all. nm

I can see an occasional day but
I know his grades are awful. I don't see any way possible he can pass his grade this way. How long can a school put up with this on a 16/17 year old? I sure would hate for him to drop out because then I'd have to listen to his ruckus 24/7.
I love my vet, the only blood work she does is an occasional - sm
heartworm test, about every 2 years. Only take the dogs (and cat) in for shots, no extra or unnecessary stuff. She is cheap (and good) too, compared to where we used to live. I'd say if there is a hint of a problem, then yeah it should get monitored. But if there is nothing wrong, then why? Once every few years should be adequate I would think for blood work. As for teeth cleaning, I have only done it once with 1 of dogs because she was going to be out anyways getting some teeth pulled, a tumor removed too, so we had her teeth cleaned. As for my other dogs, forget it, that is what Milk Bones and Dentabones are for. I already spend enough on shots for 3 dogs, Frontine, heartworm pills, special dog food for the 1 dog, etc. Some vets do whatever to get more $, others though don't get greedy (country vets) and think of the animal, not on pumping up their bottom line. If you aren't happy with your vet then either tell them you only want the 1 x a year visit, shots only, none of the extra crap, you can say NO, it's your pet. Or find another vet. Though we are in the boonies, we have 2 vets within 2 miles of each other, who are both very reasonable, go into town though and you pay a lot more.
Question about 7-year-old son - occasional vomiting

Please help! :)

My 7-year-old son has had very occasional vomiting that is associated with no other symptoms. This started 5 weeks ago and he has gotten sick a total of 3 times. He vomits one time and he is fine. No fevers, no diarreha and nothing food - specific that I can link this to. This does not occur quickly after eating. Generally, it is an hour or two after eating. He eats and digests his food properly at all other times, so this is confusing me! He saw his doctor 2 weeks ago and was started on a trial of Zantac. I give this to him in the mornings before breakfast. Today, he got sick again (just one time) and he is perfectly normal now. I did contact the doctor and we did go to the hospital for an abdominal x-ray. I am waiting on those results right now and I guess that I am a little confused about this situation! He has never gotten sick like this before. He never even spit-up as an infant. I have never noted any food allergies or intolerances but now I am starting to wonder. Has anyone else had any similar situations like this? Thanks in advance! :)

I have occasional migraine headaches. I can miss a day of work and SM
make it up, no problem. I am glad I work at home during those times.
Love Dictaphone's ExText here, even with its occasional glitches. nm

Explaining my occasional bitter-/crankiness
I confess, I am one of those that will occasionally toss a snide comment in. I don't think I have ever gotten to the point of being brutally mean, but I have been snippy. And it may be petty and it may be unnecessary, but, in my case anyway, it stems from a frustration when obvious newbs post a question that at least in my mind seems simplistic (based on the s/l they are able to provide) and should either be a common knowledge type thing or else easily findable. After a day of plodding through ESLs, rapid-fire dictators, or reports that have more chromosome testing than I have chromosomes, I do get a little cranky when someone who probably only makes $50 less a week than I do posts on here asking what 'conjecture hard fail your' might be and respond in a somewhat less than mature way.
Don't feel too bad ... one of my dogs reacts similarly to the occasional STRANGE man!
... especially when she was younger and she was our only dog. I'd be walking her in the park and some guy would ask to pet her, and maybe 1/10 men would cause a frenzy of love to come over her. She would throw herself at his feet, practically moaning as he scratched her belly. If I'd have been single this might have been useful, but I'm married! Very embarrassing.
I think she is talking about full QA review not occasional blanks with a new dictator.
As a newbie I was off full QA at the halfway through day 2 working on acute care. However, I had an excellent trainer/mentor available to answer any questions, and I could send unlimited blanks to QA.

Now when I work on a new account, even with a new platform, I am off full QA within a day. If the platform instructions and account specs are clear, it should really not be a problem.
Depends on the pay and account. My lowest average is $15.52 an hour (roughly 182.6 lines an hour) w

1850 lines per 8 hour shift. 15.00 hour - no real requirement
x
if it is feasable, split that 6-hour shift into two 3-hour shifts. sm
i work a split shift and find that i am much better able to stay focused and get more work done that way. also, being 3 months pregnant you have gone through the very tiring time of pregnancy and you should start seeing an energy perk before long.
I start an hour or 2 early and then take an hour or 2 for dinner -nm
x
At 200 lines a day for 6 cents, you are making $1.20 a day or 0.15 hour for an 8 hour day!!!--cm
Did you mean 2,000? Even then you would only be making $1.50 if you work 8 hours a day.
$32/hour? You said $36/hour on an earlier post. Either way would be great. n/m

I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

I appreciate your responses. I had an option of line vs hour ($14/hour) but if line pays more...nm

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm

If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask.  Otherwise I'd say annually...  good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!

It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!

I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft.  My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones.   When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard.  Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones.  The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
I've been a bully; I've been bullied.
I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.

And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!

I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.

But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.
I've become the man I've always wanted to marry.
I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!
You know I've done the grilling...I've tried it all...
And I find the best way to cook steak is in a good quality thick-bottom nonstick pan on top of the stove. I found this trick on the internet. I heat the pan on high and when nice and hot, throw on the steak, no butter and no oil. It browns almost immediately, cooks fairly quickly, and seals in the juices - tender, moist and delicious!!!! It doesn't even need seasoning but salt and pepper before cooking. ;)
I've not only typed, them, I've had a few, myself! LOL

from 4:45 to 6:30 a.m. (1 hour 45 min)

I did 556 lines. That's par for the course for me when I use the keyboard rather than VR - 250 to 275 lines per hour. But I'm no macro or expander expert so I type out about 50-75% of the work.

Don't take anything that is not by the hour.

There is no decent line rate for QA.  Hourly only.  If you take the line pay, you will force QA pay down.

really $25/hour
are u really making $25/hour doing transcribing and if you are what office? why are you stating an hourly rate instead of a line rate?
$50 an hour down to $8...whatever

more than $10 hour possible

As independent, I charge 12 to 17 per gross line (average 15/line)-  type 10-12 pages per hour -- 300 plus lines ($30 to $50 per hour).  Have phone-in dictation system.  Deliver hard copies.  Multiple accounts with up to 15 physicians, plus overflow work.  Major account has 40+ reports a day.  Always have work!  Been doing this at home since 1990.  Will not do difficult dictators (or charge more and let them know why).  Also charge for copies/stat reports/faxes and delivery.  Provide quality work.  So, the work and the money are out there!

About $23 an hour. nm

I wish they would pay by the hour because with sm
some MTs (new/old) their work is horrific because they try to get their line count and don't care. These companies will learn when they loose accounts or get sued.
12-15 an hour ?
No way! I made more than that 10 years ago! God I hope you're wrong!
$24 an hour?
Oh please tell me where ... thanks ! Joanne
That's $7.50/hour!

under an hour???
OMG you are kidding me, right?  You must be talking about newbies, just out of school.  PLEASE tell me you're talking about newbies just out of school!
$20 an hour...
You make more than $20 an hour at a HOSPITAL? I would never leave the hospital then. I quit my job at "big national" to work for a hospital and made...drum roll...$10 an hour! I lasted 4 months because I felt demoralized. If I could earn $20, I would happy work my butt off for 8 hours a day - no problem! Consider yourself lucky.
per hour pay
I would prefer to be paid by the hour.  In that way I could concentrate more on quality instead of the almighty quantity, meeting quotas and turnaround times.  Doubt we'll see that ever happen though.
what should I do? $16.50 an hour ...

Hi Guys!  I'm an MT with 13+ years of medical records transcription experience.  My job got outsourced and the hospital currently dumped me in a unit clerk position for $15.35 an hour on weekends, and $16.15 for the 3-11 shift.  The work really SUCKS and I miss MT so badly I've taken on some at-home work.

I found a local hospital that wants to give me a job for $16.50 an hour and they won't BUDGE on the money - even though as an MT I was earning $21 an hour.  THis job is 1/2 pathology MT and half lab secretary work.  They won't even go to $17 an hour - $16.50.  They're checking my references - but I'm soooo unhappy with the money.  The pluses are:  the hospital is 5 miles from my home, the hours are Mon-Fri 9 to 5, 2 additional holidays than my current hospital, free parking, free medical (non-union) job with $5 copays and $0 Rx copay.

Yes, those are all significant benefits, but aren't the ripping me off with the money?  And the fact they won't budge at all makes me feel they don't really care about hiring me, or not.  The job has been open for 5 months - can't find an MT to do the secy work, and can't find a secy who CAN HANDLE the MT !  HEre I come, well-experienced in both - and the interview went fantastic!.

So what should I do ?   What do you guys think?

Thanks!  JoJo

350 lph would be $28 an hour.
If you are relatively new in the field and need the experience, than it is a good deal. But if you are relatively new in the field you probably will not type 350 per hour. I do not think it is worth it.
$22/hour for LPN as I know it...NM
