I am one

In Reply to: Are there many American MTs whose first language isn't English? nm - I was wondering if this is common.

I am holding a permanent resident status, based in the US, have done MT, editing, and QA.

Many of my QA work now are transcripts done by newbie American MTs. Sometimes I myself wonder why some mistakes are those that involve the ordinary English language (maybe they are ESL as well, despite their American-sounding names?).

I hate it when an ad specifically asks for MTs whose first language is English. There are ESLs who are more proficient in English than a lot (not all) of Americans. And there are Americans whose English proficiency is far better than the average American.
