It makes no difference whatsoever in my pay as an MT, nor as an editor, nor as a supervisor for an MT nat'l co. But, I'm positive it got me in the door much easier. I didn't have any MT training, but they realized I had more education than any of their MTs. Having my RHIA also got me 2 other jobs in HIM much easier than if I hadn't had it, even though it wasn't required for the jobs.
I haven't kept up my certification, though. When I realized I didn't have aspirations to run an HIM dept, I figured what's the point of paying a couple hundred bucks a year, plus time and money for seminars to keep up CEUs, if I really didn't want to be an administrator. I still have it on my resume, though, as "formerly certified as an RHIA."
