across something I don't know I do my best to reference until I find it. If I absolutely cannot find it, I will send it to QA. The same goes with something I can't understand. I will listen several times and if I still can't understand it I send it on to QA for their help.

You probably tried to do real work while learning IT? sm
You can't really do that in the very beginning because it makes the learning curve a lot longer. A lot of people don't give IT a chance because it's new to them and they don't like change--and because it's such a powerful program with lots more features than the other expanders. My advice would be to go over the Productivity Talk and read what the power users there have done to learn IT. They have tips on how to get the most out of your Expander that you would never dream of doing.
Soft Script is a real piece of work
I don't know if any of you out there work for SS but I think it is a bunch of bull that they can make the decision that they will not pay if someone makes a mistake.  EXCUSE ME I thought we were all human but obviously they in management think their **** don't stink.  I am definitely looking because I do not believe my paycheck is right however their is no way of checking as they have it posted nowhere.  THEY SUCK!

since I am not real great at crafts, I work on the rug kits you can buy...
they give you everything, the yarn pieces, etc., and you pull the yarn pieces through to make a picture, then you can hang it on a wall or use it on a table, or give as gifts.

those little yarn kits are nice too, where you can 'loom' potholders and things.

if you are an experienced crafter you might think this funny, but if she is a beginner, believe me, it is nice to have a kit, with all instructions, and you can see the finished product. you simply follow the directions.

the candle idea sounds great, I have wanted to try that, too. and I want to try making my own shampoo and soaps...
Cook it real slow at real low heat; simmer, don't boil.

    We are quickly becoming ...
a Christian version of the Islamic Republic, where religion is an integral part of every aspect of life. I'm not sure what you are saying here. I would have no problem typing that if it was part of the dictation in a medical report, but I would find it very inappropriate if my employer said that or I was asked to participate. If I want to pray in public I'll go to church or an AA meeting.
You took a terminology course and some
No you are not worth 75,000 a year.  Look up the salary for an MT honey, it's not $75,000 a year.  You can think you are glorified and all that, but please get over yourself.  You can be an MTSO and make that but you still have to sub out the work...  Please calm down; we know you're an MT (wanna be doctor); I've come across those types before.  Even x-ray techs think they are doctors.  What a joke!  If it walks like a duck, it's a duck, not a peacock!
what is this WE thing? this country is quickly
Run by a dictatorship, by religion and greed.  WE are not rich.  We live in a country run by the rich, who got that why taking money off of our labor.  Look at India, divided between rich and poor.  The rich have houses made of gold, the poor live off 15 dollars a month.  Our dictators do not have gold houses but they have deep green pockets.
    Learn a lesson quickly...
After 8 years of loyalty, I can tell you one thing for sure loyalty gets you no where.
QA editors adapt more quickly, but anyone can....
do VR if they are a decent MT. You're basically listening to the voice, making changes. If you know your stuff, you're fine, i.e. knowing the difference between "your" and "you're."
Get some liquid Benadryl in him quickly and

I did in the past, got burnt out very quickly. sm
It is very difficult to do. I lasted about 5 years working 16 hour days, and by that time I was exhausted, stressed out, and my financial issues never disappeared.

It really is not worth the money to do that to yourself in my humble opinion.
And editing 100% VR, we wil quickly lose

How to quickly number med lists?
What is the quickest way to number a medication list? We have to number all of a patient's medications in a vertical list (voice recognition). - very time consuming - slowing me down. Any MT's found a fast way to number medications and put in a straight list on left margin QUICKLY? This is ridiculous. The voice recognition correctly or incorrectly gives the medications, but it is very slow numbering them and putting them in a vertical list -and we are required to do that. Any help would be appreciated!
you will also need a terminology book- sm
I did oncology for a while.  I did not so much need a new drug book as a terminology book.  Stedman's makes a paperback oncology book that was a real lifesaver.  It included the drug names, including all the chemo drugs.  There were many pages of chemo drugs, and all you had to do was look up "chemotherapy" instead of trying to figure out spelling of the drug name and everything was there.  Good luck.
    Radiology terminology
    HI Terry -

I am a former rad tech, but that was before PET scans were even invented! I picked up the terms on my own, had some help from the company I worked for as we were all learning this 'new' terminology together. Google is a great help.

If you Google "radiology terminology" you will come up with quite a few helpful sites. Find the ones you can navigate easily through the bookmark them. You can copy and paste the terms you don't know into your own document and print out for easy reference.

In addition to PET and MR, don't forget nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT, mammography and possibly interventional radiology procedures. If you are on a good platform with an up to date medical dictionary including radiology installed, that can be invaluable.

You only have to worry about problem words once, as you will put them in your word Expander program or macro right away and you'll build speed quickly by doing so.

    Good luck!
    Old terminology video

Hello!  I was wondering if anyone remembered an old video that was used to train medical terminology. It was in cartoon style....and it taught the breakdown of terminology.....one I remember was gastr....gastruck...stomach.

I was just wondering if anyone was trained on this.

Thanks. I thought it might be good when you needed to get through quickly. NM

    I love mine, adjusted quickly.
But don't spill a latte in it...and the dishwasher trick doesn't work for it. I had to go out and buy a new one...and ergonomics are getting hard to find in my area!
Oops. Hit the send button too quickly.

How long before the person asking if you "want flies with that" will be from another country?

I can also understand why someone would move to another country to work because of economic reasons.  We're approaching a time where the cost of a gallon of gas may be higher than the hourly minimum wage.

    Seek medical attention quickly.
It could be an allergic reaction.
I'd grab it quickly. W/o spaces you average about
15% less - so that is an excellent rate - good for you!!
You don't need to go to school to learn terminology.
than any school could teach. No transcription school can teach you speed on a keyboard. If you have good English language usage and typing speed, start with a local physician who will allow you to type at home. Trust me. I know.
    terminology test samples
I have been searching and searching and searching google, etc. to find a written terminology test to hire two inhouse transcriptionists that I will be interviewing this week.  Everyone who comes in the door says they "know" transcription and they "have lots of experience" on their resume, but I find out they don't "know" transcription.  I need a test that is pretty broad, that is written, and that is FREE.  I can test them on digital physicians, but would really like you see how they handle a terminology test too.  Been on internet for two hours now to no avail.  Can someone help me?  I am only interviewing for inhouse positions (2), so don't everyone flood me with requests for jobs....only inhouse.....only in Southern Indiana.  Please?  Thanks for your help!!!
    Sorry, wrong terminology. This company
Thank you for the catch. :)

QAing isn't just about medical terminology. QAs have
years of experience in the MT industry & have to know the BOS inside and out, years of experience with all different accents, etc. This is no different than when nurses assume just because they know medical terminology that they can do our jobs. There's a lot more to it than that.
No you can't survive on sex and chocolate but will die happy probably pretty quickly.
It would be a bummer to watch Johnny Dep get old and cranky anyway.
Tax guy told me because of nature of job and way computers outdate so quickly, could get new one
    :+
XX,, I promise you can double that typing speed quickly SM
then triple it, and eventually quadruple it with an Expander used right. You're doing something wrong, but I assure you once you know what it is you can correct it easily and immediately start seeing the benefits having your expander do much of the typing for you.

To begin with, though, most of your increased speed is going to come NOT from inserting blocks of text standard for one dictator but rather abbreviations for the individual words, phrases, and headings you're constantly typing anyway.

For instance, I type RPSV for "reports that." It wasn't hard to remember. Variations of "report" are used constantly, so RP became report, RPS reports, RPG reporting, RPD reported. V is "that." AO is "also" for me, and F is "he", so "he also reported that" becomes FAORPDV and "he also reports that" becomes FAORSV. This is the first time I've seen those on paper; you don't memorize the long forms, just string together the constantly used short ones. Amazingly quickly your fingers remember (muscle memory?) so you don't have think about it.

Smartype is probably not the best expander but fine to start on since you have it. Later on, better programs have conversion programs that will allow you to move your abbreviations to that program.

In the meantime, go to productivitytalk.com and start reading and asking questions. If you wish, you can import a whole ready-made dictionary compiled by an MT abbreviations.

But you could also take another tack for now just as a trial. Instead of trying to use Smartype's abbreviations, if that's what you're doing, enter just a handful of your own that you can get very familiar with. I love these that I use and am happy to pass them on to anyone who wishes to try them:

    Make T expand to "the"
    F expand to "he"
    G expand to "him"
    K expand to "she"
    J expand to "her"
    T expand to "the"
    B to "but"
    Q to "who"
    R to "right"
    L to "left"
    F to "for"
    D for "and"

That's more than enough for now. If you do this, I think in a couple of days you'll be loving how a quick tap of the finger drops in all these little words so much that you'll eventually become addicted to abbreviating everything in sight--and to watching your scores on your speed tests rise and rise and rise... Best wishes.
    I learned the terminology in nursing school;
I learned the transcription end of things on the job. I was taught well by ladies with 20+ years of experience. They taught me how to do the job correctly and I now do my job well. You don't always have to go to college or take a course to learn how to this job and do it well.
What's a good source for very new medical terminology? sm
I'm wanting to avoid paying for a $95 subscription to something like The Latest Word, if possible. Is there a web site that posts new medical drugs and other terms that are so new they haven't hit the books yet?

    thanks!
You could buy a medical terminology workbook or textbook. SM

Those usually have self-testing questions.  Plus you could use the help of the textbook to form your own test.  I know you said you wanted something free, but that sounds a little unprofessional to me and no offense, it sounds a little like laziness.  You are hiring employees for your service and you want someone else to provide you with a ready made test for free because you can't be bothered with creating one on your own?

Coming here for help is one thing, but to look for a ready made test or even consider stealing a test from another service - I don't know, it just bothers me a little.

    is this for real?
if so, Lord help us all. We are in a world of trouble if this is what our profession is coming to!
    I think my real ? is...sm
can I pick it up by just doing it, or do I need some "real" training? It definitely sounds like something I want to check into! Thanks everyone for the input!!!
    I am real
Don't be jealous! If you do your math and learn to read, you will see that I lost this weight over a 6 week period (I even said in my post I started on August 17th). My first week I lost 12 pounds and then averaged about 5-7 pounds per week thereafter. Most of it was water weight (told to me from the doctor) and YES IT IS POSSIBLE.

Ever watch the series "The Big Fat Loser?" They were my inspiration and I can tell you that some of those people on there the first week lost well over 15-20 pounds!

Again, don't be jealous. I can't help you will be stuck at your 600+ pounds for life. I decided to get my life back and that is what I am doing. My weight continues to decline and all is good, as I have been monitored by a doctor for this! So a big "WHATEVER TO YOU!"
    get real.
I was a 70s teenager too, smoked pot, etc. Nothing shocks me - I've seen and heard it all. Believe me, I've been around so many losers I think I am starting to get pretty good at spotting them and every 40 something pothead I've seen is a big time loser. Furthermore, if you are in your 40s and cannot construct a sentence without swear every other word you really need help, you might be lacking a little in imagination along with class. I hope for your sake you're not over 21.
    I really like Real.com....SM
If I remember right, we downloaded the player, and from there you go to their Music Store, where you can browse, sample, and buy tunes. They seem to have a great selection. Usually they are 99 cents per tune to buy, but sometimes they have "sales." Burning CDs is super easy. If *I* can do it, anyone can. I have made several of my own CDs that I love to listen to in the car.

Oh, and no monthly fee either!

    Get real ---
First of all, why in the world would anyone have to wait 6 weeks for a first check?  Second, I know for a fact that they run out of work especially around the holidays.  If you have plenty of work it is only because the smart MTs have left that joint!  -- MTs like you take whatever the amount of their check is and never question management.  That's why you love it there --------- when they say "jump" you say "how high?"  --- LMAO
    get a real job
YES, all my friends who are lucky never had to work get mad at me cause i dont have time to go to lunch, do church work, come over and hang out, go canoing etc.etc. etc. "you never want to do anything"
    Is this for real...
I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time buying this story...please forgive me for being insensitive...but each time you post, it gets more and more bizarre.  Sounds like a movie...I'm skeptical, sorry, not buying it...
