for those who have managed to avoid bad debt as an IC, when these credit checks are run it will show on credit reports to creditors and they will then know where you are employed - and any judgments or liens against you can be collected, through garnishment, etc.

I believe it's the government's way of helping businesses find you, especially credit card companies, to collect.

Kind of sad to see people struggling with a defaulted credit card debt called deadbeats while our tax money goes to bail out CEOs and such.
