Generic vs Brand drugs
I have these in my Shorthand program and they are typed correctly - upper or lower case. No matter how I type them they wind up correct. If the word is at the beginning of a sentence, Shorthand capitalizes it there, which would be correct.
KCl is the generic, Kay Ciel name brand
Offsite MTs have no way of knowing if physcian is using name brand or not unless he specifies. In most cases a service will defer to the generic to be as accurate as possible.
Easy reference list for brand/generic meds

You can cross-reference generic and brand names and get dosage info at...SM
RXList.  I guess buying a drug book every other year wouldn't be a bad idea.  When I was a newbie, I used to think I had to buy a new drug book every year until I discovered the wealth of info on the internet and I just write new terms in my books.  I know some people like to keep their books pristine, but I make notes in mine all of the time.
I bought an Acer monitor from Staples

It's been well over a year now...  Towers are a different story, but I've had pretty good luck with e-machines from Best Buy.

but this one is brand new, just bought today
And I tried restarting the computer and now the whole background is PINK. Not my color today!
I have no idea if OfficeMax or Staples has them, but again, OM or Staples cannot help you when you
have problems. I know you need to keep the price down, but I am telling you it is worth it at least for the first couple of doctors to pay more and know exactly what you are doing, and have someone to call if you have problems. I would buy the cheapest model they have at Transcription Gear.  I have moved up to the better ones, but I believe they have one that is $225. If you have one or two single doctor offices that you can start with, that would be my recommendation. I use the Phillips 9450, which is way out of your price range.  I gladly pay it for all new offices because I have gone the route you are attempting to go and will NEVER go that route again.  If you can't go $225-230, look at what Phillips looks like so you will understand what I mean about emulating what most physicians have been using.  I am sorry if I said that I was using Panasonic in previous posts.  I forget it is Phillips and not Panasonic until I go looking for information. TG are fabulous people to deal with.  Good luck.
I bought mine at
Radioshack for around $20, I think. They wrap around my head, cover my ears (not the plugs in the ears), and they have volume control on them as well. They help significantly compared to plug ear phones, but like stated, a bad dictation is a bad dictation. But I do like them and would recommend for the money. I have heard that Bose headphones are awesome, but rather expensive. I have not had any though. Hope this helps.
I bought mine at costco, top of
the line, over $500 but worth every penny, wonderful.
I bought mine on Ebay but....

I would stay away from a seller by the name of xxelaborate1xx.  He sold me the professional version 8 which is wonderful, however, he does not send you the serial # with it. He wants you to instant message him so he can give it to you, then he wants you to give him code (a fingerprint of your computer) which is a big no no!  Out of curiosity I proceeded to activate my software the way he said and my Norton alert said NO!  It was a site that wanted personal information and contained viruses.  I think pirates these CDs then tries to get access to buyers computers to get personal info such as credit info, ssn, banking, etc.  If the buyer was a selling an original copy that had not been registered yet I think thats fine.  I would just be careful with the ones that say there nothing but the CD.  Ask questions! Ask questions!

Bought mine on Ebay

We have bought our last two from ebay.  They are sealed and nothing wrong with them.  Got them for around $10

I just bought mine at WalMart sm

in the furniture department. My pedal is on top and my heel hangs off the edge and I use my toes to run the pedal.

I bought mine at Amazon.com - nm

LOL ... I bought mine on eBay. Link inside to tell you more about it. :-) sm

I bought mine off Ebay and love it! This is probably the keyboard I will always use now.
:+
Mine say "Thergonomic hand aids". I bought them at Hobby Lobby sm
because I can't find Hand-Eze at my local OfficeMax (live in a small town) any more. These are fingerless gloves made of something like spandex.

I don't know about a website, but Hobby Lobby is a craft store.

I can't type comfortably any more without them - kind of like being uncomfortable in a car without a seatbelt.

I bought mine as a download a few years ago. If you want to copy it to another puter, just send

Staples also
I also found a comfy office chair at Staples.  I still tuck a pillow behind my back for support.  It's one of the most important things you can do for yourself when you're straining your brain for hours on end.
Staples should have them. You can go to

the website and look and get an idea.

I currently use a laptop and no mouse other than what is on the laptop.  I have a keyboard tray that is fixed into position, can't push it in, so I have to stretch to use the laptop mouse and it does strain my shoulder.  I need to look into getting a mouse tray too.

I haven't specifically looked for mouse trays, but was recently looking for a new keyboard tray and there are some that the mouse tray comes with it and can be hooked on either side.

I got a nice comfy one at Staples for $99 - sm
relatively cushy and has arm rests too (if you want arm rests that is). Nice grey suede-like material too. I still have to squinch around sometimes just for a change in position but I think that is unavoidable with sitting so long.
I have seen them at Walmart and Staples. Lots
of online sales right now, though I guess delivery by Christmas might be pushing it. I think Staples has free shipping right now. Actually, even local pharmacies carry Cross pen sets normally located by the watches. Good luck to you!
Silly, but I use Staples. I have a rewards
card and am always getting $$ back from them. Plus now they give you $3 coupons for each empty ink cart you return. And I shop for the ink I use when its on sale. I really save a lot - probably 50% - on brand name ink via Staples. Am a happy camper! I have tried E-bay before. In fact, I am a power seller on E-Bay, but really had bad luck with ink carts in the long run.
my daughter swears by Staples....*S*...nm

like at staples? I haven't looked

a - because I just realized this is why my shoulder is hurting and b- because I don't want a new desk and I always seem to get talked into things I don't want.

I bought a wedge at Michael's for about 59 cents. Bought one for my SM
Lanier station so I could see the display and one for my keyboard.
Do Office Max or Staples carry the ones you mentioned?
Those are the only two office stores we have within an hour drive of me. Which models in particular would you recommend??? I do need to keep the price down, whether I buy them or the doctor's office does.

I do appreciate your feedback. :)
generic also --sm
The only thing this one particular person who keeps jumping on people the minute they post anything at all seems to understand is that she has been in this business for *all of her adult life*, which she seems to feel gives her the right and necessity to berate others for anything she feels she wants to. It is a through and through superiority complex and I guess it makes her feel good to put other people down simply for asking a question. Once she attacks someone with her spiteful comments, suddenly all her little cronie followers think that gives them the right to berate and belittle someone too. What she does not understand is that seniority does not mean superiority and as far as I am concerned, 30+ years or not, she has an awful lot to learn about how to treat others. and she probably is not that good a Transcriptionist either because she is always on this board looking to start a fight or to make someone else feel bad. I know it is hard, but try to ignore her posts. it is her problem, not yours.
You can find different work gloves in Office Max, Best Buy, Staples,

New generic drugs.
New generic name for viagra......................micoxafloppin.  Next.. please add.
generic drugs
I type drugs that are capped or have capital letters anywhere in them into autocorrect. Then I just type the drug just like it is generic, then autocorrect "corrects" it.
It's not in order of just generic???
The drug information is under the generic of the medication. It's in order of brand as well but under brand it says see (generic name) on page --- for the information on it. I love this book and use it constantly.
I seriously doubt the generic
be any sort of proficient with transcription.  Heck, the medical VR programs can't even get it right and they are SUPPOSED to bed trained to the dictators voice.  Good luck if you're looking for a quick way - I don't think you've found it with Word speech recognition.
i buy almost all generic, make a list when i
go shopping and don't buy things that aren't on it (unless it's a necessity like t.p. or toothpaste.) plan ahead on meals and buy in bulk and freeze. it's just me and my 3 yo so we can get 2 almost 3 meals from one, that is if you can handle that much left overs. keep curtains closed in the rooms that get direct sun to keep them cooler-opposite in the winter. i don't buy extra 'goodies' like candy/chips/snacks. i'm really regretting that one today-i need a chocolat fix right now :)
only buy things on sale, if you must buy 'new' clothes wait until the end of the season and by then it's usually 60-70% off. buy gifts all year round when things go on sale, the person you're getting it for will never know plus if something comes up and you need something last minute, you've got it! the other things that i would consider a luxury i wait and use them as gift ideas for my family to get for myself and my son.
STAPLES is now carrying Dell PCs, laptops, exclusive retail agreement. nm
Paradox
Need suggestions, generic vs proprietary drugs

It seems there are so many anymore that i have trouble remembering not to capitalize -- how do the rest of you remember?

I am using docuscribe and the quick correct feature does not seem to work for converting back to lower case.  Any suggestions?

Is there any easy way to remember which drugs are generic and do not get capitalized. We get that
deducted in our monthly randoms from Amherst if we forget a capital letter.
"wav" pedal is a generic term. Some software is

proprietary and requires a specific "wav" pedal.  Download ExpressScribe for free (google for URL).  You can open one of your completed files using ExpressScribe and if it plays okay then your pedal will work, unless of course you get a job that may use a proprietary software and then it may or may not work.

generic reply--guess I struck some nerves

I don't know how long you MTs have been in the business who have replied negatively to my posts, but I started at a hospital for an hourly wage, which seems to have fallen by the wayside. At any rate, did they switch me out to different hospitals while I was workking there? NO, they did not. And, if they had, it wouldn't have mattered because I was paid hourly and it DIDN'T COST ME MONEY to do so.

We are paid BY PRODUCTION, and anything they do that affects MY PRODUCTION affects MY INCOME. Don't you get that? It doesn't hurt them to do this, it affects OUR paychecks.

I'm beginning to understand that it is possibly some of your attitudes--and probably lack of other choices, I know--that has caused this downfall in the MT field.

why let him call you lazy more than once? also, sit him down and make him transcribe a generic note.
nm
Is there an easy way to enter generic drugs and brands into your spellchecker ? ( a fast way)

save a generic dictation, sit the person at your desk and tell them to type what they hear
nm
Target, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot
etc.
Funny! Mine is almost as large, and I don't mind cleaning mine!
It's no problem at all.  Besides, I'll take lots of oodles of square footage any day of the week over living in a sardine can!
Not REALLY a brand name but please SM
This is a mouthwash specially compounded by a pharmacy - I think it originated at Duke University. I usually capitalize Magic because it's not really generic and not really a brand name. JMO
No, not a brand name.
.
They are brand new.

I think 100 may be a lot for brand new newbies. nm

Maybe it is just the particular model/brand
I have had I believe three Fantoms now (first one so heavy so bought second one years later, then ran over big screw and broke the bar on the bottom of the second one). I have the HEPA filters and have never had to do anything with them - not even change them as mine have a button that is suppose to pop up to tell you when it needs to be replaced. I have probably owned these over the past 10 years or more.

You are right, emptying the cannister can be a little messy - I do what you do and go outside, use a plastic grocery bag to empty it in (or better yet have husband do it) as I, too, have severe allergies.

If I had to choose though, I would still go bagless as I hated changing and buying the bags and once they got about half full you didn't get the suction like you do with an empty bag/cannister.

I am not familiar with the type you have where you have to clean the filter. Ugh.
Look below regarding the Noisebuster brand!
They may work for you too. Good luck!
My brand is SoftFlex, but if you use
a straight keyboard, there is a heated keyboard you could get. Or put a heating pad in your lap. http://www.x-tremegeek.com/templates/searchdetail.asp?productID=10313&sk=MX51419
