So how do you handle this. Do you keep sending him his reports filled with blanks??
You have my sympathies.  This is just miserable.  I am THIS CLOSE to telling this group to take a hike but I hate to lose the $$$.  I just don't know what I'm going to do!
Maybe all of MQ will be like Amherst or maybe so many of us at Amherst have not work they gave us
other accounts in other offices. They sure overhired but a lot have quit because of no work. One thing for sure, you wont get the truth out of your supervisor.
Do not work for Amherst if you can work for any other office in MQ. It is terrible. They overload
accounts terribly. We are always running out of work or need to have 8 or 9 backups to get lines in. This is the way it is. There may be a few out there that it is different but I do acute care and was just transferred there along with my office and everyone in my office is in the same boat. Not a good deal at all.
Yes I work for AMHERST ALSO and it is 9:30 and no work. Everyone really needs to call Corporate
about this. This will not get any better unless you go to Corporate and complain very loudly and I am very serious about this. Some of us have already done this but it will take all of you to do it. If you dont get a person down there put it on someones voice mail. The human resource manager is Donna Jack at extension 4905 in Mt. Laurel.
RE: ER and work in Amherst

I really can't believe that you made a statement like that. You must be one of the lucky ones in the Amherst office--may I ask how long you have been in that office. I was transferred to Foxboro, kept running out of work, asked to be transferred, and was transferred to Amherst and I am still out of work.  I presently have 5 accounts and have been doing ASR when that runs out--how many accounts do you have--are you one of those MT's that have 9 or 10 accounts and that is how you are able to get your lines. We are not unproductive, we just want to have work. When I started with MQ over 8 years ago, I averaged 16000 lines a pay period till the day I was transferred to Foxboro, now I am lucky if I can get to 10000 between all the accounts. One of my accounts that was transferred with me went to another service, the other accounts have been flooded with my MT's then needed, something I was told would never happen when I was transferred.

We are not lazy, unproductive, we just want to be able to work and evidently you have an inside track to all the work. Sometimes people need to vent and this is a good forum for it. Years ago MQ was a good company to work for, that was before all the office closings and all the accounts being lost

you must not work for amherst ofc
don't be so quick to judge
MQ-Amherst-Work
Where is the work?? I have 392 lines for the day--how is anyone suppose to live on this--why do they keep hiring more people when we have no work--I had no work over the holiday week end, no matther what time of the day I tries, did anyone else run into this problem with no work for today??? Why does corp ignore the problems at this office, I transferred out of Foxboro for the same reason, no work and it is no better, if not worse, here.. HELP--this is so frustrating, before I was transferred to Foxboro I could do 15000 lines a pay period and now nothing--what is wrong with these people
Do you work out of Amherst?
Well that is their rule. Only 40 hours a week; Sunday through Saturday. If you don't get your lines in in those 40 hours, Oh Well.

The problem also is that you can be working for 8 hours a day and not get your lines in because there is no work.

I am not going to work 9, 10 or 11 hours to get my lines when they do not have the work for me.

It is a vicious circle and there seems to be no end.
Would you work for a co. that docked your paycheck for blanks?
nm
Good old Amherst and couple with their ridiculous QA point plan. They people in AMHERST ARE NUTS. I
hope MQ loses all of its good MTs and then the hospitals can yell about quality and leave. My account just disappeared after being transferred up there and then find they have hired new people for it.
Does anyone on her work for Amherst MQ and how is that office to work for.
:
I am also sitting here with no work again from Amherst. I dont believe this.
:
Maybe that is where all my work goes. They sure overloaded my accounts in Amherst.
:
You are lucky because Amherst is always out of work and I know they hired a lot of new people ?? so
just curious about this.
I think anyone whose accounts have been transferred to Amherst needs to email Amherst and also to
let their supervisors know at their office if it is still open what is happening here. We also have to deal with no weekend pay, no holiday pay, NO WORK so expected to sit around for holidays for nothing and NO WORK and their QA and no blanks situation when we are on 8 accounts. This is an absolutely ridiculous situation and Corporate needs to be made aware of it and if they do nothing then I hope MQ loses all its MTs and accounts for all the blanks and poor quality work that does back to the hospitals. That is always what happens when you do this.
Well supposed to be working and GUESS WHAT NO WORK AGAIN AT AMHERST MQ. No doubt in my mind that
they could care less about the MT, if you make money or starve. These people are absolutely crazy. There is no doubt in my mind.
Actually, I don't like throwing my $ away.
I have never been a member and had only heard positives about them from my fellow employees. I never knew, but now I do. Such is life, right?
Thanks! We have been throwing them away and also
we have opened new packs of tapes, but I think the batch we received was defective. Originally we thought it was one of the physicians' machines. However, when we started seeing newly opened tapes break during dictation from other physicians in the office, we knew it wasn't their machines.
Throwing stones...

I would like to point out that you are asking people to delineate their experience on their resume, and that is not the function of a resume. Recent experience and future objectives should be discussed in a cover letter. A resume is more or less a reference guide of your work experience. Your deciphering of one should come with your experience in hiring MTs; what companies they have worked for and what educational programs they have attended should illuminate to you what they've done in the past.

1.  If a company runs an ad looking for MTs and puts "competitive line rate" for compensation, or only asks for 2 years experience for acute Basic-4, expect a resume from everyone who graduated from XYZ "Typier" School in Whittier, Wisconsin. It's obvious you don't know what you want.

2.  If you set an MT up for testing, expecting them to follow abbreviated, slapped-together instructions by e-mail without a telephone alert it was on its way, don't expect the test back in 20 minutes. Legitimately timed testing is NOT done this way.

3.  For those of you who use online tests from third parties, I encourage you to go and take your own test. It will be very educational at the very least with regard to what you are spending your money for, which is not much.

4.  Still on the subject of testing: Give legitimate examples of the work the MT is going to be expected to do, and not the "cherries." If you have 50% or more ESL, you might want to pick out some of your more difficult dictators to provide as examples of what your company has to offer in terms of work being done for a production-based pay scale.

5.  Be prepared to answer questions about how you count your lines, and know that any MT worth their salt is going to want to compare your line count of their test with what the MT can count on their own.

6.  Don't tell people to expect a call from you, not call and then call, expecting them to drop everything to accommodate you. They are looking for work, not begging for scraps.

7.  Finally (for now), do not do a "bait and switch." If someone applies with you because you offered a particular specialty, or work type, a line rate "based on experience," a definite schedule, etc., and you decide later that's not the case...shame on you.

Men are far less work in this business
As an MTSO, I can tell you from personal experience, I prefer hiring men.  They show up on time, work, and do not complain.
Yes, I can see some people throwing in anything just to not send to
cause a lot of acccounts to be lost due to poor work, inaccurate work being sent back to the hospitals.
well not this business but home to work b/c of it.
i'm not an emotional person at all at least with work, tend to be very matter of fact. i found that working with groups of people - they were just too emotional for me to deal with. i'm much happier not having to hear the ofc rumor, politics, grind, who's mad at who, who didn't say hi today, who didn't get invited to lunch, who is upset because she should get special privies and leniency b/c she's a single parent, who didn't put in their pto requests as supposed to but gets upset b/c they can't just walk in and have their time off, and junk like that.

no putting up with that 1 person in the office who wears enough perfume for the entire staff, either.

different reasons but i'm glad i'm home instead of in that stuffy ofc anymore!
No, I think the OP is suggesting throwing a fit to get the troops home NOW.

Can't find work...should I start a business?
I am about to finish up my certification at a local college and have been extremely disappointed to find that it seems no one is going to hire me to work for a company because I don't have 2+ years experience....even though I've spent the last 2 years transcribing school work....I am trying to decide if I'd just be better off to take what I've learned and try to start my own business.  Financially, I am able to do it, but I'm just not sure how much of a headache it might be.  What should I do?  I kind of feel like I've wasted a lot of time and money.  I'm pretty confident that I can do the work, but how can you prove that to someone who just wants to know if you have experience?  I just don't know what to do.
Throwing some lighter fluid on that Book of Crap!

Business plans don't work either...been there done that with SBC & ATT...MTSOs/hospitals need to.

either offer 1-800 numbers or internet transcription if they want to keep hiring us all over the US....that's it!!  Maybe we could all share the cost of a 1-800 number or something, and for goodness sake, with all the technology out there, everything needs to go to digital dictation anyway.  Bottom line is MT is NOT allowed for ULD.  I even asked about some sort of special ULD transcription package through SBC & ATT and they wouldn't even consider it.  So, MTSOs, please listen up...the ULD is going to be a thing of the past real soon.  It's a wonderful option to you and it broadens the MT's working capabilities, but without ULD, nobody can rake out that kind of money!  We should all put our heads together (MTSOs and MTs) and try to get something going here.  We can no longer overlook this situation.

Good luck everyone...I will be holding my breath for us all!

It is all filled in, or sent to QA and they sm
verify. We are not paid for this bs
No, sorry....already filled nm

Just filled up with regular at $2.87
Felt like I got a bargain!!  Luckily, my car mostly sits in the driveway.  Love working at home.
Yes. I went and filled out an application at a

temporary company and got called for a job in a short while. I kept my MT position.

For about 3 days I did the whole dress up in pantyhose and heels thing, drive to work, do monotonous tasks, etc. and I was cured. It was a good experience. It made me appreciate working at home again. Anytime I get fed up again, I just remember the details of what it was like to work in the office for that temp job and other office jobs I've had, and I'm much more satisfied with my boring at home job.

unfortunately filled with spammers...sm
I have gone to several bloggers sites and unfortunately, today, many of them have more spammers than real-live blogging going on there....
Filled pauses
Ah, eh, er, uh, um
Oil filled heater
I use a DeLonghi oil filed heater, bought at Lowe's for I think $30-$40.  Sits right next to my chair, very safe, uses very little energy.  Plus I can rest  my hands on it when there is a pause in dictation. It's about 6 x 15 inches but when I'm sitting down, it comes up to my elbow.  Love it!
I took a baby bath tub and filled it up with
all sorts of baby items.  Pretty much everything I could think of and arranged it nicely and then wrapped yellow cellophane and tied it up with ribbons and rattles.  If you know the sex of the baby, you can use blue or pink cellophane.  You absolutely cannot go wrong with this type of gift!
DH and I both filled our tanks full last night
because we heard the prices will jump by over $.65 by Friday.  We're lucky in that everywhere we need to go is within a 1.5 mile radius of our house.  We can walk or ride bikes for a lot of it.  I even got a little electric scooter, but I haven't used it yet because I've always got kids or groceries with me.
I use a DeLonghi oil-filled space heater that
But my feet were still cold. I found a surefire way to warm my feet on even the coldest days: I alternate between wearing my slippers (with indoor-outdoor soles on them), and my hiking boots which are my warmest footwear. I also alternate sox.

As I start to feel my feet getting too cold, I lay the alternate sox over the heater (safe when set on the low setting - plus I'm right there watching them). Then I set the pair of shoes or slippers I'm not wearing on top of the heater to warm up the soles.

After about 15-20 minutes, I put on the warm sox, followed by the now-warm shoes/slippers. Once on my feet, the thick rubber soles stay warm for quite a long time! My feet warm up right away, STAY warm, and circulation improves, thus continuing to keep the shoes warm. The hiking boots worked the best - several hours later, my feet were still toasty warm!
Look at a large book store. They have big catalogs filled with sources

I should try this. Posttraumatic stress syndrome is what I have from a childhood filled with neglec
I am afraid of everything. It is exhausting being in a state of fight or flight. I have isolated myself and refused to have children as my own childhood was so terrifying. Did not help that we moved numerous times during school years. Thank goodness for a few sensitive teachers and the parents of a friend. With MT, at least I know what is expected of me. There is no guessing games like there are in my mind when I am in the midst of people.
We filled our gas tanks full earlier this week before the prices went up.

We've got bicycles and a scooter to ride whenever possible.  We're already saving money on gasoline by working at home or close to home, compared with our former 25 mile round trips each to get to work and back.  We're thinking about selling our truck to get an economy car.  We canceled cable and got a Netflix membership so we don't have to drive to the video store any more.

I've been freezing and canning fruits and vegetables from the garden.  We're going to stock up on meat by buying a side of beef locally.  I buy extra whenever there's a good sale at the store.  I shop at the day old bakery, dollar store, and hit the loss leaders at the grocery stores that are all within walking/riding distance from the house.

I can't think of anything else but would love to hear more ideas.

Unfortunately it is legal..so yes it is business and they will continue with bad business practices

I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
I think that depends on the quality. Do you honestly think there is good quality just throwing every
MT on any account like they are. I also think QA has been told to not waste a lot of time on blanks so I think the hospitals are getting a lot more blanks. I certainly have more when I get in a hospital I dont know and they talk 100 miles an hour.
I made my business your business by posting and...
I totally respect everyone's opinions. It is easier for others on the outside looking in. That's why I pushed the "post reply" button yesterday. I trust my fellow MTs and I know the more I read from you all, the more confident I am becoming. I just need that final push, not from him though. I also wanted to let you all know that the physical abuse while I was pregnant was documented by my doctor and the hospital. I only wish I had known then that it is a felony to abuse a pregnant woman. I also photographed my face from a couple of weeks ago and told several people in my circle. I had such high hopes for us. Now...not so much. I'm not saying that I won't try to get him to church, but I realize that God can only do so much for someone who isn't listening. j

blanks

Can anyone out there clarify how a company penalizes for sending in a report to QA and how do you know if your company does that?  Thank you upfront!

blanks

Can anyone advise  how long an MT should spend researching an item as opposed to letting a blank? The company I work for is very reasonable about 1 blank per document etc. I was just wondering if there is a general rule.

Thanks for the opportunities this board offers to learn, vent and feel less isolated.

How many blanks in a day?
I am wondering if I am a good MT.  I am an IC that worked on the same account for 3-1/2 years and NEVER sent any blanks.  The doctors were great!  I lost that account and now my company has given me a new account for the past 2 days.  I think I have left at least a few blanks in EVERY single report I typed that had to go to editing...is this normal?  What are the average number of reports that most good MTs have to send to editing in a day?
Blanks
With a new account, you are getting used to the dictators.

Go back and listen after you have typed the whole report and 9 times out of 10, you will hear what they are saying.
more on blanks
The specifics of how to mark a blank for QA vary from account to account, service to service, etc.

When I was a QAS, I really didn't want my MTs to put sounds like phrases in, for example:

____(s/l) bazaar or bizarre____

because it would often be something completely different. I prefer to approach the blanks I'm filling in as a QA person with an open mind. I read through the body of the whole report while filling blanks in order to make certain that the word I'm hearing fits the context of the report, but I prefer not to be told in advance what the word is.

Yeah, I like crossword puzzles too.... LOL!
BLANKS

Hello, I am having a very tough time with  blanks, especially with doctors who have accents.  I try listening really close to how they pronounce the word, but after listening for a good few minutes, I find I still have to leave a blank; this is so fustrating. Are they any tips to cracking blanks?

Blanks
First question I ask -- are you a fairly new MT?  second question, do you have access to company IM?  I have worked in this busines many years and even those of use with experience have trouble with blanks at times  - I did a dictation today and the docs dog was in the background  -- one blank and really not bragging here but if I leave 3-4 blanks in a report it is because of horrid sound or terrible docs  -- this is really where a lot of newer MTs need to be able to have contact with someone who "has an ear"
