I remember when I had a youngester still at home, she was 3-4 and my office was behind the living room couch - and I would type, she would watch Barney, Blue's Clues, etc. and we would talk back and forth. One day I noticed she wasn't answering me. She had left the house! I found her at her old daycare at the top of the hill - thank goodness no major streets to cross. So have a little one at home can be very distracting - so can e-mails and IM's from well meaning friends! I've been at this 13+ years. I do mark down my starting time but also do this I require myself to do X amount of work in 1 hour. Then I can have no more than at 10 minute break. You have to ask yourself, if you were in an "in office" situation, how often would your boss allow you a break?
