I get tendinitis too occasionally. If I catch it in time, sm

can avoid the trip to the orthopedist for the x-rays, exam, shot of Marcaine and big bill (ugh).  He gave me stretching exercises to do every hour or two, and I take 3-4 ibuprofen (actually, Advil Liquigels -- it may be just hype but I do believe they work faster) if I have a flare.

Good luck.

i do it occasionally when needing to catch up; sm
as the other poster said, my production shows in the next 2 days though. i always keep a light on (not just a lamp). i have lots of dr. pepper. i usually do laundry so that every 45 mins or so i have to get up and fold another load and that keeps me awake. i avoid food as that will make me sleepy too. also do as the other poster said, don't surf the net at all as that makes me sleepy to. i stick to my work and knock it out as quickly as i can.
tendinitis
Hi: Try icing your wrist, or Icy Hot, ibuprofen, elevate your key board, which should be at an angle, if no plastic tabs on the back (top of keyboard) try putting newspaper or magazine under it, wrist rest, and also they sell braces at drug stores just for this and they work well, wear at night too. Hope this info helps you. Been there, not any fun typing in pain or numbness, pins and needles.
tendinitis
Coincidentally, I just went to the doctor yesterday with the same problem. I had put myself on ibuprofen OTC around the clock for two weeks, and it didn't help. He diagnosed the same thing I did (tendinitis) and said I wasn't taking a high enough dose or for long enough. I won't suggest how much you should use, because I'm not a doctor but he did tell me to increase my dose and take it for a month.
Re: Tendinitis/PT
What helped me the most was physical therapy.  They did (I forget what it was called) a low-current electrical wave machine on my forearm tendons, and I actually felt better THAT DAY.  After a few weeks of PT I was good to go, until the next time they imposed 8 hours a week mandatory overtime on us.  That KILLS me!  So, I'm going to ask my doc for another round tomorrow.  I think this much mandatory OT in a profession that requires such repetitive motion is just WRONG.  It is killing our future ability to make a living.
Transcription-Versus-Editing, Particularly RE: Tendinitis
A couple of questions for you editors out there.  Is it really worth the "promotion" from Transcriptionist to Editor if you are a very efficient typist who can make $20/hr typing?  Also, as someone who is considering this change due to tendinitis, is editing really any easier on your body than high-production transcription?  Any input much appreciated.
those of you with hand pain, carpal tunnel, tendinitis

How long had you been in the business before the onset of the symptoms, how fast did they progress, and what steps did you take to keep the symptoms at bay, without surgery.  Even those who have had surgery, you may reply whether or not it helped.

For me, my symptoms began after seven years, just aching.  I then switched keyboards to split.  That worked for a few months, then the joint pains in fingers.  I typed softer, really concentrated on not BANGING the keys out.  Those two things helped another six months.  Last year about this time, pain again caught up.  I got splints..started B6, magnesium, muscle relaxers, took sugar and pasta out of diet (most), and coffee, carpal tunnel exercises.  If I deviate off this diet for even one day, I get the inflammation in the wrists.  The night splint worked for exactly one year.  Here we are, i'm now on the same boring diet, and have resorted to wearing the splints during the day as well.  I believe this is my last year as an MT.  I need to get a dif job and do this part time or find an editing job which seems impossible.

Could some of you share your time lines so I know how severe mine is in comparison?  Also anything I have not tried, if you could share.  Thanks.

this happens to me occasionally too

Usually it's an ESL doc - they switch genders mid report constantly

If there are no other clues in the report, i.e. physical exam (male/female genitalia), I go with whatever was stated in the history - in your case, female.

Not the OP, but I occasionally get
The first time I thought there was something wrong with the audio. It sounded like a stuck record. Two minutes of actual dictation and 3 minutes of perrrriod, perrrriod, perrrriod!

This happens to me occasionally...

The platform I work on is EXText.  When I am in EXText and try to save something to AutoCorrect, sometimes it doesn't stick.  I have found that if I go into my regular Word program and save it there, when I go into ExText the AutoCorrect entry has been saved.  I'm not sure if this is your problem, but hopefully this will help.

Most days 8-10...occasionally more, but...
managers are paid for any overtime.
Not slow for me. I occasionally welcome
a slow day, just haven't had one in a very long time - though I'm not complaining.    I know there are lots of companies with little work.   I find it hard to believe there isn't work, it is just being outsourced or the pets are getting it.
You have my sympathy -- I have flares occasionally sm

and it is no fun -- my ring finger and little finger go completely numb!  I have seen a hand surgeon a couple of times, and he recommends frequent breaks, stretching exercises, and high doses of NSAIDs.   When it is really bad, I have had a shot of Marcaine in my elbow.

Good luck!

If you have ever noticed, occasionally when starting up EXText, you will get a message that says SM

something like "the local normal doc is newer, would you like to use this one" and if you click "no" you basically loose all your macros and have to start from scratch.  I've had this happen countless times.

I haven't had it happen for a while.  I created my macros in plain Word BEFORE running EXText and so far so good.

Not much help, I know.

My ankle pops. It's not painful, but occasionally it will get stiff and then pop very loudly.

Did anyone else catch the BS here other than me? how could you sm
bill on a gross line and pay on a 65-character line. that is just plain old dishonest. not good business practice in my opinion and cheating the MT who in the case happens to be your mom. how could you do that??? my suggestion would be to be honest and fair with you, your mom, and the office and do things in the normal manner. i hope that was a typo for your sake. GEEZZZZZZZ!!!! how many companies do cheat us all like that???
AT&T will catch on if you use their plan a lot. SM
They will (1) dump you from their plan, (2) send you a $4000 LD bill (back charges and (3) send a fraud investigator to your home. Been there, done that.
Exactly, really can't catch when proofing as you go.
Think about it, you are thinking, listening, typing, foot pedaling, etc., too much going on at once. Not to mention other distractions. Really can't proof as you go, just doesn't work. You have to stop at the end to concentrate and re-read it to catch all the errors. Trust me, I do audits and find errors in probably 8 out of every 10 reports, some very small but still errors. These are most likely from MTs who proof as they go. I totally understand MTs are paid on production and don't blame them one bit for not proofing at the end! But then also should not expect a perfect report or state that proofing as they go works, cause it really doesn't. Ever hear of a writer say oh you don't have to proofread or edit my book before publishing because I proof as I go?!?! Just some food for thought. ; )
Thanks. I put this in Favorites to try when I catch a

You never catch up with oncology....
there is always different meds and procedures more than any other field I've done.  I quit after about a year.  Great experience but ya don't make the money.
Do you ever catch your typos?
there wages - ?
Good catch---
nm
I never heard of it. Will be sure to catch it.

Oh, yeah...I catch your drift...sm
All the liberal media is going to show us during a Republican administration is the bad stuff
I agree. It seems like all of them want to play catch up on one day
then they expect you to have ALL of their work done within TAT when they went beyond the agreed lines per day.
Actually, spellcheck wouldn't catch it because
there, they're, and their are all correct spellings.
CATCH PHRASES ARE "AMAZING" - NOT!

It's time to move on from these phrases that I've heard ad nauseum from people who can't think of anything on their own.

"At the end of the day."

" . . . amazing."

" . . . awesome."

Anybody else?

yes, I did catch it;hence the haha you missed it

ooh, i catch jealosy vibes lol

Hire my kid--he'll catch it for you! sm

He loves snakes.  I don't care for them but we have lots around here too, especially in the spring when they are mating. I live in Illinois. They are regulars in my yard. The only thing he hasn't caught and brought home yet is a rattler. We've had hognose snakes, pregnant garter snakes, blue racers and regular garden snakes. He has a pet pine snake in my dining room.  Hubby and I don't like them but he is the one who takes care of the them, buys the food, cleans their little homes, etc.  My neighbor was once infested with blue racers and he went over there and caught them all and turned them loose. I bet there were 25 in the guy's garage. He made $50.00 for an hour's worth of work.  He had a pregnant garter snake once that gave birth to 20 little babies the size of nightcrawlers and sold them to the pet shop for $3.00 apiece. He doesn't do it anymore and he only has the one snake now, but I learned a lot just from watching him. I've been told that a black rat snake living under your deck in the winter is the best mouse control you can have.

I notice that too. QA will eventually catch up to them.

Scan through and hopefully catch mistakes as I go. sm
That don't pay me enough this day and time to proof every single word I type. Take our wages minus IC expenses and we aren't making much. I look at it like you pay for what you get sometimes. Now that isn't to say I don't care about quality as I do. I just proof as I go and try my best to catch it and be accurate but I do have 15 yrs exp and can usually tell immediately if I have made a typo. I may get a he or she mixed up here and there but no major errors in the report.
Yeah, sometimes I catch mess-ups...sm
when I go back through the report, and I say I am glad I proofread. LOL.
Ok, Six Feet Under fans, did you catch it last night?
I'm sad.
You guys are better than I thought. I was wondering if you could catch those, lol nm
:P
And the result is like a Catch-22. Clients/MTSOs

so they turn to alternatives like offshore or VR.  But they don't look far enough to see that the root cause of not enough experienced MTs is because the experienced don't want to stay in a sinking ship.  I think they feel that using the excuse that lack of experienced MTs validates them turning to cheaper alternatives, which in turn, makes the ship sink even further.

Did anyone catch the show with Sandra Bernhardt?
Where she and Elizabeth had sort of a fight over politics. That was the best! lol
It's very easy. You'll catch on in a flash.

Oops. worth OF catch up and wants it ASAP.

Anyone catch Discovery Health Channel last night?
I always watch the Plastic Surgery epidoses with Dr. Jan Adams who narrates the different procedures profiled.  Anyhow, he was explaining how some patients are more susceptible to keloid formation, and in the subheadings where they type these words, they had it as "keyloid"  It just struck me as funny, being a medical show and all!
don't worry, they'll catch it. Probably take it out of your next short paycheck.nm

It was a joke. The poster didn't ask anyone to actually do those things. If you can't catch

great post; hope your ideas do catch on.

It takes me three months, then I catch up and exceed the expectations.
Also, takes about three months to decide if you even enjoy the work, company structure and your team members. If not happy, change teams or if it just does not fit, change teams until you feel at home. Being worried about your performed, feeling somwhat discouraged and even temporarily anxiety ridden is not unusual traits of a conscientious employee and valuable employee, by the way.
I may even be able to proofread and catch spelling errors (interruptions)!

I meant to answer your post earlier, but I've been trying to catch up on

housework before school starts.  I cannot WAIT for school to start.  I'm so tired of the kids' bickering and attitudes this summer.  They've taken to ignoring me whenever I ask them to do anything.  I threaten them with grounding, loss of privileges, or slave duty.  Then they bicker about who did more chores or who made the mess to begin with.  Instead of cleaning up after them, I leave it sit until their Dad gets home.  If they don't want to listen to me, they'll darn well listen to him.

They are usually really good kids.  I think it's mostly cabin fever because a lot of their friends went on vacation or stayed with their biological Dads for the summer.  The kids are so bored.  I'm just so tired of it every summer.  I have all these grand plans for finishing work early and doing something fun each day, but I get the same garbage every year.  Too many kids over here, too many interruptions, too much bickering, too much mess.

Let me tell you, I'm celebrating on the first day of school.  I'm going to the coffee shop and buying a big mocha latte.  Then I'm going to sit there all by myself and read a book.  On the way home, I'm grabbing lunch for myself and watching a chick flick by myself.  No McDonalds either.

I am working today but i don't get extra pay. just behind on clinic notes and trying to catch up
between cooking.
Hey, I don't live on this board. We catch negative posts and delete
at any time. In the top, right hand corner of each post, there is a Report Message button you can click on.  We do the best we can.
A hyphen never killed anyone but a left and right error did and I catch plenty of those as the MT.
blah - these aren't rules, they are decisions made by a circle of anal retentive MTs. Dorland's and a grasp of the English land and basic sentence structure all make it happen but a love of medicine is what makes an expert in this field because they follow the doctor's hands, eyes and mind.
OT: Girl singer on the July 4th shows - did anyone catch this show on the Fourth?

I'm trying to find the name of one of the performers on the evening of the Fourth who sang God Bless the Child (I think it was on the show where the President attended).  Does anyone know who that singer was?  I missed the first half of her song and they did not announce her name again at the end.  I thought it might have been Brandy but I haven't kept up with celebs lately.

Thanks in advance.
