I got no line bifocals about a month

ago and I'm slowly getting adjusted.  I'm extremely near-sighted and find that I have to take off my glasses most of the time to read, or slide them down my nose and peer over them.

I've had low line counts for about a month, but for other reasons
I've just been in a general "funk" after losing a close family member in November. I find my mind wandering while I work. But it's getting better. Occasionally, though, there are days when I'm going along really great, and then I just seem to get a gang of bad dictators, ESL and Non-ESL. That's very frustrating -- having a good day and then BAM! Mush mouths and speed talkers. Part of the job, tho.

Business line with Talk America, $49.95/month unlimited for transcription

I could switch to DSL but the phone company charges 50 extra a month for being on line for more than
So either way I will have to pay more.  I guess no one else here is affected or concerned by this but the article said that other companies would follow suit if Time Warner has success.  The article said it would affect the teleworkers who are on line for long periods, not the people who just use cable for reading their email.
I pay $35/month through Vonage for unlimited LD. Local phone co. charges $50/month. NM

bifocals
oh yeah, had to start with them 4 yrs ago,,grrr.
Bifocals
Yes
Bifocals
Age 57 here - bifocals at age 40, now trifocals. Not bad once you get used to them, better than 3 pairs of glasses and misplacing them all the time lol
RE: Bifocals
Had the little windows at bottom and they were fine. Now in trifocals. Wait until you get to them.
bifocals
I had bifocals and yes you will get used to that line. Now I have no line trifocals for years (the alternative was three pairs of glasses. Too bad you did not get the no line bifocals, but I know they are more expense. My trifocals cost me over 325.00.
bifocals
I got my first pair about 3 years ago and it was very difficult to adjust to them. I always felt like I was falling forward when I walked!  But now, I use them only for driving or watching t.v.  When working or reading I don't wear them.   I think they are great though, especially the no lines!  Good luck to you.
follow up on bifocals

I actually have three stage progressive lenses due to 80% blindness in one eye and peripheral problems in the good one.

Main part for distance, middle part on one eye for computer work, then bifocal at bottom for reading books, etc.  Dang expensive but much easier than the 3 different pair I was using.

Anyone that would normally wear bifocals

able to function with contacts?  I need new contacts.  My optometrist says that he can make my contacts function so that I don't need the granny glasses, but so far I feel like my eyes are zooming in and out like the lens on a camera trying to focus.  I also have glasses, but I need a stronger prescription and if I have to go back to glasses I have to get bifocals.  I really don't want the lines, but have heard from several people that they have problems without the lines.  My DH has bifocals without the line and he says it makes him dizzy sometimes.  Optometrist says he just needs a smaller frame/lens.

I've got to do something soon as I'm getting daily headaches, but just can't decide what to do.  I am legally blind without correction and my lenses are about $300/pair without any of the extras.  Fortunately I have good frames and won't need new ones.  I really would prefer contacts as my vision seems to be so much clearer when I'm looking far off, but up close I just don't know if I can use them.

Don't know about the contacts but the bifocals sm
without the lines can sometimes be a problem. When I went to bifocals after my cataract surgery, I didn't have any problems. I have the ones with no lines. My husband, on the other hand, has had the no line bifocals for about 10 years and hated them. He said they made him dizzy, too, and couldn't get used to walking with them on. He said he felt drunk when he wore them. So, last week when he got a new pair, we went to Sterling Optical in the mall to get them and he told them what the problem was with his other glasses. They said the bifocal part was set too high and they set it a bit lower (below the pupil) on this pair and now he has no problems with them. Also, if you have Blue Cross insurance, they have the Blue Perks where you can get a decent discount. His glasses were 579.00 and with the discount we paid 350.00. His were more because we purchased the scratch resistance, polycarbonate lenes and also the replacement insurance on account of his job. Also, we bought the transitions to save buying a pair of prescription sunglasses. Sterling Optical also has pretty good deals on bifocals if you watch out for their monthly sales.
Followup poll regarding bifocals....SM
It just so happens that I went to the eye doc last month, and he recommended bifocals! Yikes! (I'm 44.) I was leery of the progressive bifocals (and their cost) so I ordered some old-fashioned lined bifocals. I have to wait 10 days for them (obviously not Lenscrafters) so I'm really curious how I'll do.

Bifocal people, what kind do you have, and do you like them?
Followup poll regarding bifocals
I have had both bifocals with line and without. It takes some getting used to, but after a day or two, no lines are what I went with. I now wear progressives trifocals, have beginning of cataract in each eye, but I tried one pair for transcription and one for driving and chain around the neck, pain in the neck. My pair cost me 285.00 and I am very happy with them, just got a new prescription for the progressive trifocals. Good luck in your decision.
I'm having trouble adjusting 2 bifocals!

Do U ever get used to that darn line in the middle?? It seems so strange, but I just got them today.

Does it get better?

Not yet, but turn 40 in 6 weeks, seems to be the magic age for bifocals - nm

Nasty? The poll is only about whether you wear bifocals or not when transcribing.

A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.
Anything on the line makes up a line even if just one letter or number. Every line of print is a

Gross line = each line on page counts as a line, even if it's only 1 word. nm
x
Gross line means anything on a line is counted as a line.

You can get an idea in the difference using documents you have already created, assuming you're working in Word. Simply open a document and check the properties. Click on the statistics tab and you will see the number of lines as well as characters with and without spaces. If you're currently getting paid by the line and a line is 65-characters with spaces, do the math and see how that number of lines compares with the number of lines in your stats.

One thing to keep in mind: if you have a blank line between paragraphs, instead of hitting the enter key twice, format your document to give the appearance of blank lines between paragraphs.

1 month and you?
A month - and you?
We have had it for a month. All 5 of us
at one time or another tested positive for Strep. Only got well after antibiotics. But it lingers and flares up for weeks. Our entire town has it, and all for weeks and weeks - actually since Halloween.
If it has been less than a month,
you're probably still on probation, which works both ways. I would review the policy and speak to a supervisor before they invest any more time in training, etc. If you're professional and polite, it will work out.
Since one never knows whom they'll encounter down the road, try to make a graceful exit. Good luck.
I'm 30. 31 next month....
See update below.
a month...
I type 24 hours a week. I am new though and only get paid 7 cents a line right now. Would love to make more too!
$9,500 per month
Oh, I don't like to post my earnings here.  It is such personal information.  And I have you all beat cuz I make 19 cents per line.
My 18 month old was saying....

A month? I do!

how is $288/month better than $57/month?

I got one about a month ago.
It's been all right so far. It was not my first choice, but I needed a laptop in a hurry and didn't want to spend a lot, and Gateways were on sale at Best Buy, so that's what I got. If I had had more time, I would have chosen a Dell or HP, but the Gateway seems all right. A colleague mentioned that his son's school uses Gateway laptops and have been happy with them, so it's probably a safe choice, if you can find one at the right price.
One month
I took one month off, but wish I would have taken a little longer.
I have been looking for about a month
and finally I got 2 offers, but 1 company I've heard nothing about and the other I've heard good and bad things about. I really need to be working and don't know what to do. It's a bad time for everyone it seems.
as of June, I'm at 47,000 and that was with one month off!

Is it just me? Started DQS at MQ last month

and although I've read over and over that MTs that start on DQS start loosing lines, I swear my production has gone up.  For the first couple of weeks, it stayed a little less than normal, then I was moved onto a NEW acct on DQS and I'm always a little amazed how many lines it says I've managed to squeeze out.

Don't get me wrong--not happy about many things going on with this company, and I'm a little nervous.  I'm just a mere SE with not much say in anything.  But the line thing, it's been OK for me.

I agree, especially with a 6 month f/u. SM
Can you call the office and ask the doctor call you back to explain the findings?
Thanks. You know, we have been OUT OF WORK for over a month.

the moment is hard.

And, ha ha, nothing with MQ is fast anymore anyways.  I bet I haven't made over 120 lines an hour in 3 months.  I get bad reports nonstop.  NONSTOP.

It would have been decent of them to have said it was an option instead of pretending like it was mandatory.  Especially since they know we are broke out here from having no work.  And believe me they know we have had no work.

Oh well, just another reason why I can't stay in MT after all these years.  Why do I want to keep "giving" it away.

I adore it. Have had it about a month...
...and it's now the only keyboard for me. I've always used ergo keyboards, but this one has totally negated the pain that I'd get even from those. I use the "booster" part that goes in the front--which seems to be the key, along with the more canted angle of the board. Thank you Microsoft!
Well, I actually pay close to $700 a month..
for health insurance, so wouldn't affect me much. The company will still be based in Houston though. They just have another location in Florida. The gas sounds promising. I was wondering how much for food. How much for bread, milk, etc. Just to get an idea. So far, it just sounds like the homes are what is real expensive there. The gas is comparible to Houston. How much do you pay for home insurance per year? In Texas, the ratio is usually something in the range of you buy a house for $140,000, your monthly bill would be around 1,400 for everything, taxes included. The homes here going for around $130,000-$160,000 look comparable to the homes ranging $260,000-$300,000 there. That is a huge difference.
Only been there a month, but have not ran out of work yet.. more than enough.
Maybe it depends on your account. I have only worked on one account and this one has plenty of work. I have not ran out at all.. usually, the account is even a little behind..
I have a 9yo shih tzu and an 9-month-old
Lab/retriever mix. Beautiful babies!!
5000 a month
It is actually quite possible to do. I work for a small transcription business and one of our transcritionist averages $1900 to $2000 a week. She takes advantage of her ESP/shortcut program and makes templates for everything. So it can be done.
$9500/month

Well, I for one do not believe anyone pays 19 cents a line.  I would need to see proof of that in writing as I think it is a bunch of a bologne!

$9500/month
Well, no wonder, you live out in the East Coast area which is way more expensive to live, so that I can believe.
Try asking for a 1 month deferment.

My 18 month old is eaten up with it!
She literally has it everywhere! She has tried every topical cream by prescription there is and they don't even touch it. Recently, her doc gave me samples of Cetaphil lotion and body wash and those have been the best thing she has ever used. It is in the lotion section at most stores. I have learned that certain things make it flare up worse at times; like food touching her skin (of all things). I read somewhere that even being upset can cause it to flare up. It is so bad that she cries and says "itching" several times a day.

Her doc told me that they will not be prescribing Elidel or Protopic anymore because they might cause cancer. Just thought I would tell you that in case your son is on either one of those.

Let me know if you find a magic cure for it!
I use Qwest - $25 a month. nm
