I guess because I work for a local group of doctors

I have an overabundance of work and would love a break. Too back I can't subcontract work (I'm an employee). I have had as many as 250 patients in one week. Today is a low day with just 26 patients coming in, but a lot of days it's upwards of 50 patients so I have 50 reports to type in a given day.

I'm going to type an acct at home for local group. What is a good word expander for

things to know on doing tapes from an office?  Is it best just to give them a disk and let them print it out at the office like they want to?

Anybody doing an acct like this?  Thanks.

I would try local doctors and clinics
I only work weekdays and nights only when absolutely necessary, no weekends or holidays either.
I think we should form a group alright, but no support group!!
How about a group of MTs forming their own transcription company?! We don't need some yahoo with an MBA who only cares about the bottom line and doesn't realize there would be NO bottom line if not for the MTs. We do this work on a daily basis, we know what to do and how to do it and most of us have dealt with doctors one on one. I am so disgusted with these companies and from reading this board, so are alot of others.
My husband just signed up for group life insurance with work which will give him 10x his salary if

he dies which will leave the kids and I with almost a million bucks if he dies.  Of course I would much rather have him here more than anything.  He had just 150,000 in insurance but for some reason just opted for this group thingie.  When talking last night I asked him if he died if I could marry again and this man got so upset with me I thought he was going to cry!  He told me absolutely, positively NOT that I could not remarry ( am 31!).  He is 35.  LOL

Poor guy.  Leaving me all this money and I supose the thought of me sharing his wealth with someone else makes him sick!!

I told him he could go ahead and marry if I should happen to die.  I want my kiddies to have a great mom and person who loves them very much. Wouldn't you agree?

How do you feel about your spouse or partner remarrying if you or he dies??

Where I used to work, 50% of the doctors never

I work for a local hospital,
not a company. I know to stay away from Transcend.
local hospital work
i moved from a large city to a small town and i'm thinking about doing what you did. try to go to work for the local hospital. would have to probably work a set schedule, but the town is small so it's not like i'd be driving a long distance and i could go home for lunch. i don't have benefits right now and that's scary, so i'm leaning that way.
I work for a local clinic.
I've been doing the same doctors' dictation for over three years, so I have lots of normals and shortcuts for their standard stuff. For some of the docs, I can generate a whole page of dictation with a couple of Keystrokes and just edit for an individual patient's particulars. For all the docs, I can generate phrases, sentences, or paragraphs with a couple of keystrokes. This makes the work go very quickly. Also, a few of the docs I get regularly are VERY long-winded, so their dictation is very lucrative. These doctors are very set in their ways and have resisted all the blandishments from the nationals and VR salespeople. I think a lot of that resistance is that they don't want to spend money on the technology that would require. They're still using tapes. As long as they want to do it that way, I'll be happy to do their transcription. In the meantime, I'm investing every penny of my transcription money and not getting used to the extra income for day-to-day spending. I know the golden goose won't last forever, so I don't want to get used to it. Check with individual clinics in your area, you may be able to find a similar opportunity. Good luck to you.
I work as an IC for a local clinic
I get 0.12 per gross line. Because of the format the clinic wants, the longest possible line is 55 characters (with spaces). To there.
I also work for a local hospital which is
growing in volume of work minute by minute. We have 52 remote transcriptions and still we need to send out work to two venders.
So true, work for some doctors and clinics also and many are now
jumping on the save lots of money and offshore bandwagon! We just can't win. It's over everyone :(
I work with eScripting doctors and love it. sm
However, some of them are such conscientious dictators AND the machine has them down so pat that, if they were in charge of their own dictation--like independent practitioners--routing their reports through an editing service might turn out to be completely unnecessary. Office staff could give them a quick glance-over instead. I know nothing about the business end of this, just what I'm seeing on the screen.

And, yes, I was also really intrigued to see that some of the most horrible-sounding dictators quickly developed a very good working relationship with the machine. For sure, accents are totally irrelevant as the machine doesn't know they exist--if a practitioner can't get his tongue around h's and r's and always pronounces "heart" as "et" the machine thinks that's the way it's supposed to be pronounced--by that doctor.

I do much prefer editing over transcribing-fits my skill set better, but undoubtedly fewer editors than transcribers per report will be rquired in future.
I work for doctors directly, no QA, so I always proof.
.
The worst doctors are on VR where I work, all of them at the hospital
I do not get it when certain physicians are not on VR or the companies say they are not on VR. I disagree with what you say about VR not being able to handle them because I am grateful to have VR handle the ESLs.
I work for a small local company.
It seems that the smaller MTSOs pay better than the nationals. Maybe that would be a good avenue for you to try. I just think the low rates offered by the nationals are insulting.
Who me? No, I work for a local nephrology office.
Never worked for Spheris.
Do you know any IC transcriptionists or friends who work in doctors' offices?
That is how I got started. A good friend worked for herself and had no coverage for vacations. I covered a vacation, then a day or two a week, which eventually worked into full time. I also did prn work for local offices.
Local clinic does it. There is a coordinator who distributes work to us
and deals with the blanks in reports, etc. I am not sure what she is paid but it seems she is content. This clinic had in-house MTs ten years ago and then sent everyone home to type. Now, they are over the internet. Radiology group in town does this too. They just hired someone from Georgia (we are in Calif) to type for them over the internet. I think they use PC AnyWhere. Clinic uses Citrix.
I only have dial-up, I work for a small local MTSO -sm
that uses a FTP site to send us our work, so dial-up is just fine for that (work is about a 20 hour TAT, so it does not matter how long it takes for me to download my work, and uploads are quick. So obviously a job that has no set hours, etc. is ideal for someone with dial-up. Also get your own accounts, then it doesn't matter does it as you are the boss. I have 1 account of my own and we transfer the files via the internet through an intermediary website (in place of a FTP). Just keep hunting there are dial-up jobs out there.
If you cant get a job inhouse, go to a local company and work in their house.
A lot of people who I went to school (college) with ended up working for a local company to Jackson, MS, MidSouth Transcription. They worked with you and got you ....further trained shall we say. We had school, real college courses, so we were very well-trained (had to take an anatomy and physiology class that was the same as the premed students) - we knew a LOT but Ms. Torri got us employable. Try a local transcription company for a while. It will help, I promise.
You're rude. That being said... Some people just work alone for a couple doctors and don't
s
Local clinic sent all work to the Phillipines one sunny day. Left their MTs
It is not only India. I really cannot say there is an answer other than find politicians who feel as deeply about the "Employ America" slogan as the American worker and American business owner who is a patriot.
Write it off. And be careful who you work for. I had the same problem with local company.
What's your time worth to take these people to small claims court? And what was pointed out to me after doing the research is even if you win in small claims court, there is no way to collect it. Since the company is a bad debt anyway, they aren't going to pay you because you win a small claims court judgement.
I wonder if the cherry pickers will be out of work when all the good speaking American doctors are
Gee, I will still be working because I'm grasping these ESLs pretty dang good, right along with ops and cardiology reports.
If resale doesn't work, consider your local Freecycle chapter to give the

If you want to work at a local hospital or doctor's office, go to community college. Otherwise
if you want to work from home, for a national company, you need to take the course from either Andrews School or M-TEC. It does you no good to save money by taking the Penn Foster course, because most companies will NOT hire grads from that school, it is a poor course and does NOT prepare you sufficiently for MT work.
Also, hoping there is more work.... but guess what!
Just got up to start my shift 1 a.m.- and there is no work in the system?
Pay depends on where you work, I guess.

I know if I have a midnight deadline, it's 4:00 a.m. my time because I'm on the east coast and my national is out of California.

Good luck with the 3rd shift.  I was thinking of that myself, but my husband has been doing 3rd shift for 7 years and I do first shift and we tell everyone that's why we get along so good.

P.S.  He usually tries to keep his all night routine on the weekends, (his shift is 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.M- Th) but sometimes he'll stay up on Friday morning and go to bed at 11:00, but it messes him up sometimes because his week starts Sundays with a 12 hour third shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.  You'll get used to it.  He loves it.  No alarm clocks. No morning rush.

I guess SOMEONE is satisfied with where they work (sm)

I guess you would need to ask the MTs at the company you work for.
nm
And when the US MTs refuse to work for that guess
where the work will go?
I guess maybe it depends on who you work for...
All I know is my boss is well aware of every single report that I proof every single day. I have specific accounts that are my sole responsibility, so if an error like this drug mistake got through on one of my docs' reports, it would be easy to know who saw it last.
I guess she mistook the work for a Nathans Hot Dog.
LOLOLOLOL
I guess I should say who work for a company that has you travel
to different on-site facilities and work for a few weeks providing all travel expenses and then on to a different facility?
I guess I am unfamilar about the rules of an IC. I work
through a company that has the clinic as a client. Do those same rules apply. When I was hired by the company I was hired as a part time IC.

I guess that depends on how many hours you work. sm
Do you save yourself 2 hours because of your Expander and then quit for the day? Or do you work more hours because your expansions allow you to = more on the paycheck?
Buy local. The local stores pay taxes to support your city and state. (SM)
Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy.  We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.
Guess what? When he's at work all day at HIS job, he's not spending time with the family
Grrrrr.
I guess it depends on what company or client you work for. nm
x
Okay, I guess I'm asking how can a company require you to work 8 hours a day, SM

require you to produce a certain amount of lines, but then only pay you for the lines?  My personal opinion is that we need to redefine this whole production pay thing because the MTs are getting screwed in the deal.  If we are paid on production, then we should be able to produce the minimum and then our work day is done unless we choose to work the entire 8 hours.  If they want us on the system for 8 hours a day, then they should pay us hourly plus incentive line rates.

I personally think that companies should pay all MTs a base hourly pay, like say $12 per hour and then 5 cpl on top of that or something to that effect.  Or say $12 an hour and you have to produce at least 1000 in an 8 hour period and anything above 1000 in that 8 hour period you get an extra cpl rate as incentive.  I would be working my tail feathers off if I was offered that.

Well supposed to be working and GUESS WHAT NO WORK AGAIN AT AMHERST MQ. No doubt in my mind that
they could care less about the MT, if you make money or starve. These people are absolutely crazy. There is no doubt in my mind.
Wild guess-borrow a wireless?? Go to an open wirless and work from the car if you have to?
Where there's a will there's a way - keep asking and keep talking, someone will help you. Ask the company you work for to help you out here, perhaps they have a plan for you if they value your association.
I went local. Great local tech support, they know what I do and were able to set it up just for me
:)
Guess what? If companies fired the shoddy MTs, they'd lose more than half their work force in eve
company! Pretty sad state of things, but that's the quality out there right now, and AMERICAN MTs.
don't mean to group the
hard workers, but this particular person was bragged about to all employees. If we make a good line count, do they brag about us, NO. Congratulations on your line count, you earned it. We did not have this information because of being allowed to see the line counts, we were told. Just wanted to set this straight.
There is a third group you know...
There are Americans who are working thier butts off, both spouses, and still can't make ends meet.  Forget about extras like healthcare, some are lucky to keep the lights on!  They may be courtious, professional people but life is not fair and life is not easy for everyone.
MRC ----> MRC Group ---> TL?
I'm trying to remember the exact sequence of corporate mergers.

I seem to remember the name Medical Records Corporation being morphed into The MRC Group before the TL merger (was that a merger or an acquisition?). I lost track when TL became Medquist. At one point I was hired by TL when TL and MRC Group were two different places to work. One was in Palos Heights, the other in Oak Brook, and that was a case study in not burning bridges, because it seemed like employees from those offices migrated back and forth between employers somewhat regularly.

Then several years later, I went back to look to be rehired, and discovered much to my dismay that Medquist no longer had brick-and-mortar offices. That was a rude awakening! I really miss being able to stop by the office and chat now and then. I don't play well enough with others to enjoy being in an office every day, but once every couple of months worked out great! :)
Another group to join...sm
DeadBeatHunters@yahoo.com - you can learn from other posters. Be careful about the accuracy of their advice, though. The monitor told me that you can get retroactive to your application with CSE, but the CSE attorney said they do not do that. Since it took 2 years to locate my husband' Ex, that could have been alot of money!

http://www.deltabravo.net/custdy/ - you can go here because one of the forums is called Child Support. They even have a page there where you can learn things that are specific for your state. I think that's where you can read about child support laws in your state.

What's your case about? Do you have an CS order signed by a judge? Can the deadbeat be located? Is he interstate (it's a felony to leave the state if you are in arrears for child support).

Just don't give up! Good Luck!
Group you mean MTStars?
This group, you mean, MT Stars?  No, however, I cant let an ignorant poster get away with posting ignorant judgmental stuff..
Hunt Group
I have a 16-port digital server and need a hunt group for it.  I asked my local telephone service provider, and was told they have no idea what I am talking about.  I need this server set up right now!  Where do I get a hunt group?  Any help will be greatly appreciated!  Please email me.  Thanks in advance.  Molly
Hunt Group
Sorry Molly, I would think maybe you could ask a computer expert? Never heard of this.
