I guess it depends where you live. Grocery

Posted By: stores in my area are doing fine on 2006-01-05

I don't know of anyone who shops at Walmart for groceries.  Not one.  No way I'd buy perishable stuff from Walmart.  I was desperate one night a few years ago and bought milk at Walmart and BLECH!  It wasn't past the expiration date but it tasted like it was nearing expiration and the coolers were lukewarm.

My cats have been outdoor cats all of their lives.  One is 13 and the other is 10.  Where we live, they sleep in the street.  They're both neutered and up-to-date on shots.  They don't wander too far from home anymore as they get older.

We moved here from a farm on a dead end road and I tried to make them stay indoors at first, but they wouldn't have any part of it.

Like I said, it depends.

Everyone in our tiny neighborhood knows them by name and dogs fear them. :)

(They're 15 lbs. each).

Guess it depends where you live. sm
Clerk didn't care if I would lose day(s) pay and also said I wouldn't get the $50 a day reimbursement as I was self-employed and had to pay myself.
No, I guess it depends on where you live (sm)
Like I said above, I have heard it used in a derogatory way many times. I am definitely not the prejudiced one. Anyone can look at the term "ebonics" and see where the root word comes from.
I guess it depends where you live...
Some employers require or "prefer" certification, but I don't know whether that earns you any extra money or not. Most do not require certification, at least where I live, and do not come out and offer extra pay to be certified or encourage you to be certified. My opinion is that it is a waste of your time and money.
I guess it all depends on what part of the country you live.
I could not live on $2000 a month.  Our house payment is more than that, not including electric, cable, car, etc.  One day we will retire down south!!
CPL definitely depends on where you live
I live in Arkansas and the most you get here for locals is 10 cents if you are lucky.  The rate here is usually between 7-10 cents and that is with printing, pickup and delivery.  There are not many MTs around here but these docs here are tightwads.
depends on where you live
Why would u drive 50 minutes for a pt job though? Can't they email it to you?
Depends on where you live
Do you have to pick up and deliver? Print reports? There is time and $$ involved there.

If you receive files electronically and deliver electronically, then I would guess 13 cents per 65 character line is reasonable. More is always nice. Also depends on how badly you want the job.

Even if you pick up and deliver, depends on how many miles you have to drive, but still 13 seems like a nice mid range. You don't want to get piggy and ask 15 or cut yourself off and ask for 10 cpl....
I guess it really depends on how much you
enjoy the "freedom" you have and how much you enjoy the job you do right now. I know from experience that sometimes it's better to take less money and be happy in your job than to take more and not be happy. It's a tough decision and I wish the best to you.
I guess it depends. Do you also do
Are you using ICs or hiring as employee status? That makes a difference, too. If IC, the turnover rate can be high with ICs (at least in my experience, even w/ good line rate/decent dictators) so it's quite literally a neverending process for some MTSOs.

Another factor is my first question, do you do some of the work yourself? It's really dependent on your personal goals. Do you want to free up your time to work or are you wanting to add more clients and build up your business? If the former, does having the help afford you the extra time necessary to do QA functions? If the latter, are you able to charge a high enough line rate to bear paying an MT and a QA person a decent rate and still earn enough of a profit to operate? How many ICs do you typically have on QA, how long, and how many QA people would you realistically need to handle the workload? I think those are all legitimate questions to ask yourself.

FWIW, I tried doing QA myself at one time and it was not a winning formula. My theory was pay the MT more of the line rate to attract quality help and they won't be on QA for long, but it didn't play out that way. I had a high turnover for various reasons, ICs going AWOL, not meeting TAT, too many errors, etc., and even with the really good MTs, you run the risk of losing them to bigger services that can pay more and/or offer benefits, or they simply find their own accounts. I was putting in very long hours in order to handle QA plus get my transcription done. It wasn't worth it for me, time wise or financially, so I gave it up. Again, it depends on your situation, your ultimate goal, and if you are able to find good reliable help. I just thought I'd share my personal experience with you, too. YMMV, of course!
depends on what you did I guess sm

Sometimes the less said, the better, but of course, only you know what you did and I don't think you should broadcast any personal info on here or the Web. You will have to decide for yourself, if you have the skills, maybe they will give you a chance; maybe they won't think it matters. Only you can decide. I can't give you advice and doubt anyone else on here would either. We're used to everything being confidential, etc., professional people here, at least most of us anyway! Good luck!

It depends on the state. In NC where I live,
you must be legally separated for a year before you can get a divorce. The legal separation is treated like a divorce though, so anything accrued by either party after the separation papers are signed are not considered marital property. I think she may want to obtain a second opinion just to be on the safe side.
Gee, I guess all the college kids who live in
trailer parks are not worried about being "educated."
Pay depends on where you work, I guess.

I know if I have a midnight deadline, it's 4:00 a.m. my time because I'm on the east coast and my national is out of California.

Good luck with the 3rd shift.  I was thinking of that myself, but my husband has been doing 3rd shift for 7 years and I do first shift and we tell everyone that's why we get along so good.

P.S.  He usually tries to keep his all night routine on the weekends, (his shift is 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.M- Th) but sometimes he'll stay up on Friday morning and go to bed at 11:00, but it messes him up sometimes because his week starts Sundays with a 12 hour third shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.  You'll get used to it.  He loves it.  No alarm clocks. No morning rush.

That depends on your company. You will need to ask your TL about that one, I guess. nm

Depends on your account, I would guess.

Some accounts want a strict SOAP format, so you would disregard the other headings.

I personally work on verbatim accounts so we put in any headings they dictate.

I guess maybe it depends on who you work for...
All I know is my boss is well aware of every single report that I proof every single day. I have specific accounts that are my sole responsibility, so if an error like this drug mistake got through on one of my docs' reports, it would be easy to know who saw it last.
I agree... it depends on where in the country you live....
I usually figure what they are paying per person for dinner and then give that as a gift times the number of people in my family who are attending.  I also think it depends on how well you know the person.   A gift should be a personal decision.  The bride and groom should have invited you b/c they want you there not b/c of the gift they are expecting from you.
It depends on whether you are working for someone as an IC or you have your own clients. I live in
Hampton Roads and was told that I would need a one if I was going to solicit my own business.  I was told by the local office where I got my license that I could not send out brochures or advertise in any way until I got it.  I do know of a local company here that requires their ICs to have one as well.  I think it is because he had a problem with an IC who did not report her income to the IRS and he was audited because of this.  I am not sure how this protects him, but he requires all of his ICs to have their own business licenses.
Sorry, this absolutely depends on the county you live in. Going through
She was just told they won't even look at expunging her felony drug conviction until she has a clean record for 10 years. In the meantime, she has had to fess up in a couple of interviews and hope for compassion. She finally got a job she lives but she's always afraid what will happen if she loses it.
I guess that depends if it is a verbatim account...
I think even so I would type feces....
It depends what type of surgery, I guess. sm
Some are very easy and fast money, others are very detailed and long, nothing "normal" about them.

It all depends....Personally, they are my favorite and I specialize in doing only op reports, all specialties.

I guess that depends on how many hours you work. sm
Do you save yourself 2 hours because of your Expander and then quit for the day? Or do you work more hours because your expansions allow you to = more on the paycheck?
Depends where you live? Small town big city? sm
Hospital billing?  Clinic billing?
I guess it depends on which office you get switched to now doesnt it.

I think it depends where you live. My parents threw a huge party sm
for me when I graduated with about 150 people. The gifts weren't in the $100 range but it was 23 years ago. I received over $5000 in gifts and that was used to help buy the things I needed to go away to college such as bed linens, dorm furnishings, etc. The rest was used over the 4 years to subsidize when I needed extra for something. Yes, my parents paid for college, to the tune of $25k per year. They were happy to do it and proud when I graduated with honors and got a good job afterwards.

I'm going to do the same for my 2 kids that my parents did for my sister and I. There is nothing wrong with working hard to give your kids the best in life and nothing wrong with celebrating their milestones. If you don't agree with graduation parties, don't go to them, but if you don't celebrate your kids' milestones and make them special occasions, who will?

Guess it depends on how porous his skin is-- try cold cream maybe? - sm
My kids have done all sorts of stuff, usually the face cleans up except for red in my experience...fades over a week or so. But cold cream is good for make up so maybe it will work, if you don't have any handy maybe a thick moisturizer? Obviously the hands are not an issue since they won't be in the picture, you can always try a liquid make-up if it doesn't come off and if the make up does not look weird. Good luck.....you can always keep him home or arrange for him to do the make-up picture for kids who are sick...they always have a make up picture day...find out when it is and just do it then.
I guess it depends on if it was a long-term affair or a one-nighter sm
Probably would try to make it work because I love him and want my daughter to have her daddy around.
Grocery savings, and web link

We shopped at Aldi Foods when all our kids were at home - teenagers and toddlers at the same time - this was a big help with keeping grocery $$ lower.  I think they take only cash or ATM (no credit cards - which is probably a good thing).

Gardening and canning your own produce can help save money on your grocery bill, as well as homegrown produce is better for you nutritionally.  It is time consuming, however.

And, the meat in the grocery store comes
I believe that if you buy "beef" it comes from cows, an animal. I believe if you buy "chicken" it comes from chickens, an animal.
Not sure, but I went to work at a grocery and lovinin it.

or tennis shoes.  It's within walking distance of my house.  I have a set schedule and get paid and can cash my check right at the store every other Thursday.

I get a vacation, health insurance, there is Workman's comp.  Istarted at $8/hour and getting raise in 30 days.

I don't work constantly, there is an ebb and flow of customers.  I'm not wrung out at the end of the day, and I know what my paycheck will be at the end of the day!  They aren't jerking me around with "no work" and there is overtime for when I may work over 8 hours in a day!  I NEVER STAND THERE AND HAVE NO WORK/GETTING NO PAY!

Who knew I would be throwing away 30 years of medical knowledge to slide some groceries across a scanner, put them in a plastic bag, and say howdy to some really nice people-------for the same amount as sitting in a chair, searching for work 24 hours a day, and being treated like a machine.

I miss learning about medicine but I certainly love having a life again.

I will probably pick up some overflow transcription from a local doc's ofc from a girl I know who has some contracts.  OR NOT....who knows.....I may throw this whole computer in the closet and shut the door.  It feels so good not to worry constantly what MQ's next trick will be.

I was a cashier in a grocery store and
he came in to buy groceries for his mother. We were both 17 and married 1-1/2 years later, been married for almost 27-1/2 years now.
have you tried the library (if you still have one) or the grocery store...
like, lingering, you know? I have been approached many times by men like that...

how about friends, does anyone have a set-up for you, even just for some companionship?

how about volunteering for things, like a food pantry or wildlife center.

of coures, goes without saying to be cautious always when out in public these days...

also, laundromats I always see single guys...

anyone else?
I agree, best out there in the grocery stores.

Put notices up at the grocery store, etc.

advertising homemade pies, cakes, breads etc.  A lot of the famous and rich people in this type of industry started off this way.  I think it isn't that big, at least not in the smaller cities, but we have people that come into your home, plan a menu with you and then cook so many meals a week.  There is also a business that just started near me where you go to their store, they have all the makings for 6 different meals and you just put them all together.   One place has cooking lessons for kids and also opens to kids cookie parties and he is doing very well.   Work with a caterer prn.   I live in a city of about 230,000 and we have events that are seasonal where caterers are hiring dozens of people, with June coming up they will be hiring to help with weddings.

I know lots of people with psychology degrees and none of them are working in their field because there just aren't any jobs.

You don't mention a husband or kids, but if you are young and no responsibilities now is the time to go out on the limb.

None of the above would require a huge time commitment or financial commitment and you could test the waters while still having a FT income.  If it took off you could scale back your hours, or try and do both for a while and get your debts paid off and then be in a position to jump in with both feet.

Our local community college has a culinary program.  I think it is still largely male dominated, but still lots of females too.   I don't know if this is a 1 year or 2 year program, though I think it does require a lot of hours.  You could do it during the day and work nights/weekends.  It wouldn't be easy, but nights/weekends usually pay more.

If you want it bad enough you'll find a way.

In our regular grocery store.

My parents both worked for various grocery
stores and my dad just retired from Safeway.  Neither of them have ever heard of tipping for taking groceries out to the car.
CABG for grocery list
Yesterday when making up grocery list I wrote CABG for cabbage and it was not on purpose!
Another great grocery saving website...s,
is www.thegrocerygame.com.

I save a great deal of money on brand-name foods using this method of combining coupons with sales. I have even gotten free items, such as a bar of Neutrogena face soap and mustard and even a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

There is a cost of about $5 a month, but if you sign up friends, etc., you can get free weeks. Check it out! :)

And where exactly do you think that the meat in the grocery store comes from?? ANIMALS!
nm
Exactly! The newspapers all say that the grocery stores are open.
Why are people in expensive cars waiting in line for free stuff then? There are 2,800 people staying in shelters that NEED to be helped for truly being victims of the storm rather than for being "victims" of lack of planning or preparedness. Believe me, we're not without compassion. We do care. However, people 50 or 100 years ago didn't sit back on their laurels waiting for others to do for them.
Regarding Walmart vs grocery store prices

This got buried on the second page, but I pointed out that Bounty paper towels are more at Walmart than my local grocer.  Someone replied back saying that overall the grocery store is more.  Nope.  This is my reply:

The paper towel price increase is not a momentary thing.  I started comparing prices a few years ago between Walmart and the grocery store.  I used to buy food at the grocery store and everything else at Walmart.  Until Walmart got to be just as expensive or MORE expensive in some cases than the grocery store.  It is NOT just paper towels.  Same with Era detergent.  Same with a multitude of other products.  Walmart has gotten GREEDY.

Now I clip coupons for the paper goods, cleaners and what not and the grocery store doubles any coupons 50 cents or less (I don't use them if they don't double).  So with the prices being less than Walmart to begin with, plus using coupons, I come out WAY ahead.  So I don't even make a Walmart trip at all anymore.  Might as well just buy everything at the grocery store.  It's closer, more convenient, and CHEAPER.

Let's write to our local grocery stores
now and let them know we do not want to buy food from China, including produce. Please don't start taking apples from China. We trust apples from AMERICA and perhaps Australia and New Zealand, but China can keep their apples.

This is a WONDERFUL program cut my grocery bill
XX
I should also say that DD #1 started out at a grocery store pharmacy
then went on to the hospital after 9 mos or so.
why no, i don't live in snobville. did you think you knew me? i live in heritage hills a suburb
it takes a little longer to get to work and shopping but thank god i have some privacy and am away from the congestion.  lovely trees and lakes all around.  maybe about 20 minutes to a large shopping mall.  but no, i don't even know where snobville is.
The card should have been given as gift cards for grocery stores, etc.

In my town Walmart is the way to go...local grocery stores are outrageous!!! sm
There is no way to feed a family of five at any of the stores in our town! My grocery bill was cut in half when Walmart moved in!
my 18 yo daughter will be working for a grocery chain out here starting Saturday.

It will be interesting to see if she gets any tips ... or will be allowed to. She's going to be starting at $1 over minimum wage but has to pay union dues. She just quit a restaurant job where the business received tips that were to be divied up between the staff. She got lots of tips at her tables that she had to put in the tip jar. She never saw a penny in her pocket from those tips.

Personally, I've never tipped the baggers, but they do work hard!
