I just gave notice at my job and all I gave them was when my last day would be. SM

I don't think they even cared why I was quitting.  I called the supervisor to tell her in person and she simple said "I need it in writing and when will your last day be".  Personally, I like things quick and painless.

You gave notice to your old job w/o knowing
what your line rate would be? Am I understanding that correctly?
No one ever gave me 2 weeks notice when I was let go
so why do we owe anyone this courtesy?
But you gave tthem notice at 11 cents - sm
so if they want you to stay, you have to ask yourself, 'What's in it for ME?' And then as them for 12 cents.
I gave two weeks notice... but stopped doing their work FIRST
Since they refused to give me a raise after 7 years of loyal service to 3 doctors full-time, i gave me 2 weeks but didn't do their work in my 24-hour TAT window because I was SO p*ssed. I got it done "on my time" at that point. I have a hot head i can't help it... plus it was a huge slap in the face when not only they weren't giving me a raise, they expected my paychecks to decrease because they were mad they were paying for templates! we seriously were like a little family... that was three months ago and im STILL hurt about it...
You're so right - I gave my notice - 5 more days & Im back home!!
I worked at home 9 years - back in an office for a year -cannot WAIT to be back home again. Office politics and BS, silly little rules that make no sense, traffic, hours less in each day because you spend that time commuting, people who care if you have a $200 purse or not...when you work at home you can still have friends, but you get to choose who you spend your time with!
for what god gave her in beauty, the devil gave her in insanity.
she is one scary chick to be raising kids.
Early in my career I worked for a service in the office. I gave my notice after almost two years...

with them because I got a job with a hospital that paid better and had better benefits.  I gave my notice and the office manager made my life heck for my remaining two weeks.  He gave away my desk, my chair, my transcriber (we were still transcribing cassettes back then).  I spent the next two weeks shuffled between workstations and using the crappiest equipment they had.  He also refused to give me any help on my account.  It was a huge family practice from which I would get at least seven 90 minute tapes a day from them.  Before I gave my notice, I was the lead on the account and had three other people helping.  When I gave my notice, he couldn't spare anyone to help me and I got several tapes behind.  I kept telling him I was behind and he would just say do what you can.

Long story short, he tried to stiff me on my last paycheck because he said my account was way out of turnaround time and I had cost them money.  He had told the owner of the service that I had never asked for help and that I purposefully held tapes back to screw them.  I ended up taking them to small claims court to get my money.

Some people are just ugly people that take EVERYTHING personally.  You can't win with people like that.  They are unprofessional.  I wouldn't worry about your boss' attitude.  In a couple of weeks, he'll just be a memory.

Accepted a job with a new company, gave two weeks notice to my old company..

Old company, let me go before two weeks was up.  New company, said they were having trouble getting me set up and my equipment ready, but they would pay me while I waited.  It's been a month, still no check from new company even though I was told it was "in the mail."  I have no income and am at a loss.

I have a signed offer letter from the new company, contracts, etc.  I applied for unemployment, but old company is saying I quit and technically I am currently employed with the new company!  New company is not returning calls or answering email.

What should I do!?!?!?!

I started sending my resume out today, but the process of getting a new job will take at least two weeks and I need money now to catch up on what I'm behind!

someone gave me a tip...
to make it larger, maybe it will help make it smaller:  Ctrl and scroll on mouse to adjust  -  any help?
you gave me an idea about E-bay...sm
I'll go check it out, but is it easy to sign up to sell something? What kind of account(s) do you have to have (Pay Pal, or will they send you a check?). Let us broke MTs know.

Congrats on the saved backside! We've all been there; in fact, I'm right there with ya!

Thanks for the E-bay suggestion!
MedQuist gave what they can
I also am in agreement with what Medquist did was great!

It doesn't matter what we think or feel, it is what the people receiving that money feel, and they are grateful! That is a lot of money in anyones eyes. Common sense should tell you that you only give what you can and if 20,000 is what MedQuist could give then that is not worth picking apart.

The points being brought up about how MedQuist just spent millions on legal fees should say something right there, they still gave didn't they? YES SIR!

No gripes here for the amount that MedQuist gave:)
VR would be better if they gave MTs the machine and
So the machine only has to get used to our sweet little voices instead of these speed demons and speech impedimentalists.
I gave up proofreading...
when it became clear that  I had to move fast to produce reports in bulk  in order to make my production requirement as well as a decent hourly wage ($20 to $25 which I feel is fair for this type of work).  My feeling is that if that MTSOs wanted error free reports they would pay by the hour and not by production.  Most places which say they want 98% accuracy get this figure from a  random sample of reports sent to QA.  If you were falling below this consistently, and I am talking gross  mistakes in the reports, hopefully the service would hear it from the dictator, who has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring his/her  work is accurate.
I don't believe that. God also gave us free will. nm

It all hangs on what you DO with what God gave you.

I gave the tip about using control+K
for command entries.

I purchased ShortHand and it is in the instruction manual that came with it.
Thanks to all that gave info:)

I gave them about 6 weeks.....
I kept thinking it would get better and after about 6 weeks when it was getting worse I just quit.
I really like the ideas you gave here
I, for one, am about to freeze my tush off this morning but I just came into my room to check email and such before any work today. The one I like the most, I think, is about the lap throw. I have seen the electric blankets but am not really sure about this. Is this a Wal-Mart item also? As I want to see any outside activity, sit in front of a really big window with the shutters open so that let in some of the cold, keep space heater going at my feet because like you, want to keep costs down in the rest of the home. Only 1 here most days and do not need to heat up this great big place. Thanks for the hints.
I just gave up IC for employee sm
My kids grew up, I paid off my house and I don't have enough expenses personally to itemize. What happened? I got screwed! Last year my taxes were $11000. I am expecting about the same this year.

What happened is that that is such a significant part of what I make that I was financially strapped. I have literally been saving for my taxes FOREVER to mount this kind of money up to pay them and it is the same every year. No expenses much, can't make less income because I can't eat, can't make more because well, I type enough!

I made excellent money last year. All my friends made 1/3 to 1/2 of my income for 2007. They all got newer cars. They all had some sort of a vacation. They all could go out to dinner once in a while. My vehicle is 15+ years old, but runs. I have not had a vacation in 10 yrs and I can't afford to eat in, let alone eat out. I buy my clothes off the Walmart $3 rack because that is the only way I can afford it.

For having no mortgage or rent, being VERY frugal and careful...I have no money and no life. I will never be an IC again.
Gave me the giggles!!! LOL!!!
LOL...wicked giggles...kinda makes me wonder if the above MT can bring themselves to type the terms for private parts...or are they offensive also? One could wonder...hmmm...Please forgive me, I truly mean no offense, I just could not resist. I have a nice set of horns to counter your halo.

On a professional note, I too believe that if it is stated, it should be type. Those types of direct quotes help indicate a patient's character and/or state of mind. They are a very important part of the medical record and should never be left out unless specifically asked by the client!

People...please do not take offense, I have a truly wicked sense of humor is all!!! LOL.
Probably. I am an IC and my MTSO gave
me a copy since that is what they use. I used to use the counter in MS Word before that.
I don’t think she gave the impression
of working for a MTSO. I personally thought the amount she was saying was that she did have her own accts. The question was how much you make, not whether you were your own boss or working for others.
I dont know what gave you such a bad attitude, but i am sorry for
you. Maybe you could talk to someone about it. You seem very angry. :(
I can't believe James just gave up and walked off.
Doesn't it make you wonder what he's thinking???

Still rooting for Kaysar. He just got back, he must figure he needs HOH.
OMG. You just gave me an awesome idea!! (sm)
My schedule/routine is EXACTLY like your husband's, or it was until my son's girlfriend started "living" here. Long story, but it's ending soon as she is returning to college in a week.

It totally threw me off because she sleeps on the couch (they are both over 21, but "house rules") which is where I used to sleep, so now I have to sleep in my office/bedroom (but I hate to blank where I eat LOL). Also, much more activity because they roam about the house during the day (he works evening shifts) and I am constantly hearing doors close.

Which brings me to the brilliant idea I have thanks to your post!! I am going to get EAR PLUGS or something similar. Even though she'll only be here for another week or so, I'm sure she'll visit on occasion... but I definitely need SOMETHING to get me through the next week!

thank you thank you thank you!
Hmmm, you signed nothing. Maybe they gave you this one
:)
DOG...yes, he gave about 1-1/2 hr presentation. Interesting.

Whoops! DH gave DD the car (sorry for the confusion)!
What happened was that I thought a second hand car was fine and she should pay for it like I did in high school but he said, "Are you kidding? You bought your own car in high school in 1975 when it cost a couple hundred bucks. If she bought her own car now she'd need a loan for the friggin' thing. It's just not possible anymore for kids to buy anything like that from a minimum wage job at the Dairy Queen, plus if by some act of God she was able to it would be a piece of junk and unsafe."

Amen. We gave up buying for the whole
extended family years ago. Now we buy for our nuclear family and parents. My children are grown now, so we spend less now than we did when they were small.
They took the extra and gave it all to your teamleader.

That gave me chills. Good for you!!!
I hope my life turns out that well.
Really wish I had the baby and gave it up for adoption (sm)

It seemed like the right decision at the time, but the nine months would have passed so quickly and now that baby would be alive, somewhere, hopefully having a great life.  It made me fear for the first several years of my two living children's lives that they were going to be taken from me as punishment.  I picture the child that would have been at different ages.

If I gave that recipe out, he'd kill me....but....
no body lives forever, right? ;) My son makes three 8-inch round cake layers, cuts off the tops to make them all flat then cuts each layer in half (using a piano wire--very culinary :). The rasp. filling from scratch takes forever, but a quick alternative is to heat rasp. jelly on low and add regular nonflavored brandy. Heat stirring constantly until it thickens a little and is spreadable. This should not take very long at all (heating too high for too long will turn it into hard candy when it cools). Spread between the cake layers. The genache is just white chocolate, butter and heavy cream. My son goes by what the stuff looks like with regards to how much of each he needs, but I'll bet you can find a recipe on epicurious. com or the like. I know this is not exact, but hope it helps a little.
It gave him daily headaches. nm

MQ gave out some really extraordinary gifts!
!!
This gave me my laugh for the day! :) Professional??

Look, Miss Know-It-All, I gave her the correct
It taught her to use the term "select".

If she doesn't learn how to use the correct terminology, she'll NEVER learn to use her help index and she'll always be disabled.

Unfortunately, the enablers, such as yourself, do nothing but perpetuate the problem.

If you don't like my assistance, shut the h*** up! I sure think yours stinks!!

..maybe different now. Gave a range of what pay would be. Wouldn't pin down a cpl until after

Just gave the neighbors a show
While walking the dog I did my best Jessica Rabbit walk sans the high heels. I noticed the dog walks the same way. Wonder if the neighbors saw me. I'm sure one of them will let me know if they did!
Ohh, someone gave formula for figuring out
x
Well, you should. She gave you good advice.
If you don't like the contract, move on and find one you do like. Like Patti, as a business owner, I've heard a lot of things and if you don't put even the smallest things in writing, there's going to be someone out there who will take advantage of trust. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's what it's come to--and not just in the MT business. Check your next loan contract, service contract or sales agreement.
By the way, all I did was google the 2 words you gave me - nm

I gave up on all that and now use a program called

If a company gave out my IM info SM

to people they  have working on the same account I am for me to help them, I'd stop working for that company.  I work for myself, my rate is for typing the company's work only, not for assisting another transcriptionist.  The only way I'd do that is if I subbed work to another Transcriptionist myself.

My previous employer gave me

Instant Text and I didn't like it at all.  I've always used Stedman's Smartype and I absolutely LOVE it.  I tried and tried to get used to Instant Text b/c everyone says its the best and it did nothing but slow me down.  I just couldn't get used to it.  I gave it a fair try and my boss gave me a lesson on it, gave me short cuts, etc, and I tried to get used to it.  It was just awful IMO.

It was given to me and I don't use it.  I went back to Smartype and I can easily type 300 lines per hour with it.

Not in my state - everyone could care less, gave it up nm
 : (
I gave it 6 months and quit sm
The newer and younger ones in our group liked it and the rest of us hated it. The little red box that bounces along made me "car sick" and I couldn't relax because the doc would say "the patient had a MI" and VR would put "she needs to do her homework" or something else way off but spelled right. A report would come across perfect and then the next, same doctor, same procedure, would be all screwed up. I went from straight 3000 lines per day to 4000 VR and they were going to cut my pay per line in half.
My doc gave me one lens for close, one for far s/m
I LOVE them.  It's like a miracle.  I still sometimes have to use readers if I'm in a dim restaurant or somewhere with bad lighting, or if the print is tiny.  I have one lens that is for close up, and one for distance.
If you can read, you will see the post by ALS gave references. nm

I know some people don't like to give money, but if everyone gave
money and they were wise with it, they would have their fairy tale wedding sooner maybe.  Maybe she could list things she wanted for her big wedding like her gown and her flowers and you could get a gift certificate from there and then they wouldn't have spent the $$ on something else.
