I know it's work, but is it worth your time?

Or should I have said, what level of frustration can you tolerate - I should have stated in the above post that this is time consuming and can seem daunting, but if you choose to do this, just take one step at a time and choose a chunk of time you will have free, and in the end, you may just have to make the time because our computers are our livelihood and need to keep them in good shape.  Then again, you can just hire someone to do it for you; and just a clue, they use a lot of these programs too.  But registry issues, of course, that is another issue - a professional would definitely have to tackle that one.  Take care!

She is not worth your time
These were my thoughts as well.  I have been reading both your posts and I must say I do agree with you.  The last statement of hers certainly made no sense and I am glad you addressed it.  Better just leave well enough alone now - she is worthless - don't waste your good transcribing hands on her - perhaps she will just go to bed, or we can only hope soBetter yet, perhaps she went to Walmart to make those purchases of a new sense of humor, etc.  HA HA HA
is it worth your time?
Sometimes even if it is minimal amount, making a point is worth it you know? My hairdresser took her owner to court for like $100.00 not because she wanted that money, but because of the principle of the situation. If you can spend the time and money if it doesn't go your way, go for it. I think everyone should be held responsible for wrongdoings, now matter how big or small.

Not worth the time or money
unless you are into titles
I do it the same as you...takes a little bit of time but worth it. nm

Thanks, just trying to get a feel if it is worth my time or not.
Some platforms are money makers, and others are not. This one may not be.
I figured it up and even at 10 cpl, this doc is not worth my time...nm

It means they probably weren't worth your time
and that unless they were not being straight with you (perhaps you did not actually pass their test for example) that they are disorganized and careless when it comes to recruitment.

Look elsewhere - APPLY MULTIPLE PLACES because this IS unfortunately not a unique situation. I have 20 years in the business and I have often had four resumes out at once because I KNOW some of the jobs advertised are not real jobs and I will never hear back. Others will SAY you have a job and then drop the ball to get you started.

The ones who seriously want to hire you *now* will make that very clear... Basically whoever gives you work first (that meets *your* requirements of course) is the company you go with.

Make a note of those companies who don't act professionally - and consider yourself forewarned about what they might be like to work for in the future.

SOME have legitimate communication oversights - but there are a TON who are poorly managed. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out that ignoring a candidate (dropping the ball) etc., very loikely elimiates a potential person for future needs.
It is time to seek you own accounts to be paid what you are worth! nm

Yes, I always have the notes. One time, it was an entire day worth of clinics except for one!

How did they just get one note and not the rest?  There have been a couple of times when the doctor just didn't dictate on that particular patient, but most of the time I typed the notes, printed and delivered the notes, and then they say they never go them!  And I always have them on my PC and backed up on CD.

I agree - doesn't sound like it's worth your time to fight her anymore. NM

Wanting PT QA work, is it worth it?
I'm currently a FT MT (many years now) and getting very bored with the work. It's so bad now that I'm finding myself constantly distracted (perhaps too willingly) thus not producing enough lines.  I'm more than capable...just bored.  I was wondering if doing QA PT would be worth it, on top of my MT work?  I just need something to do other than MT work to break up the monotony.  I've done QA work before but that was quite a while ago and don't know what the pay standards are anymore.
I believe this profession is worth fighting for...you work at BK if you want...
So we should just accept everything going on around us, like dumb sheep? What kind of attitude is that?

Answer this, are you supporting your household on being an MT. It does not bother you that in a few years you be making half what you are now, doing some dirty, low-paying job?

You are really okay with that, and think that is not a problem.

Believing in yourself and fighting for what you believe in, is what this country is supposed to be about. That is my opinion.

Listen carefully: It is the sound of the shifting of the tides coming in to divide rich and poor. If it happens, it happens, but I for one will fight it with everything I can.

I am glad I do not have your attitude. I happen to love this job, got in it because I love it, and am going to be sad when it is gone.

So many passion-less people...
Worth a shot, but didn't work for me. sm

My inhouse job was outsourced when I left to work at home after 3 years doing the same account and getting rave reviews and raises for my transcription. I applied to the company handling the same account when I saw it advertised. I was told by the company my account was outsourced to that I did not have enough experience. Huh? 18 years total. 3 years on that same account.

I guess it depends if you're still working for the hospital or not. I know that at least around here, the hospitals basically black ball you if you have the nerve to leave their employ.

Hopefully the hospital you mention isn't quite as petty as mine was. They actually started sending the tapes out the day after I gave my 2 week notice and I had absolutely nothing to do but filing for the last 2 weeks. Apparently the hospital policy dictates that there is a grave danger of breach of confidentiality once the employee gives notice.

Give me a break.

Good luck. Hope it works out for you!

Psych work - my 2cents worth
I have two psch accounts that deal with ADD and children 80%, adults with learning issues, accidents causing cognitive problems or Voc Rehab a lot lately.   I start my IC's out on these accounts because they do not demand 24 hour TAT, the reports are long -- 10 to 15 pages however I set up a lot of templates for the tests, history, etc.  A standard report of 10 pages with a 2 page letter to the patient takes about 1 1/2  to hours for my IC's to type when they first start and is between 450 to 500 lines.  I myself can do a report/letter right at one hour. (35 to 45 minutes of dictation).   This is true because I  have so many standards set up, etc.  Because the doctors gives us 4-5 days to finish the tapes, I pick up once a week on Thurs-Friday and they have to be back to them by Weds (E-mail) and I have them set up as I do, I only charge him 10.5 cpl but that is gross line and I pay my gals 0.75 cpl to start and once I don't have to proof them I go up to 0.8 cpl.  I have trained several on this account with very little medical background and they have picked up in less than a month but again I have taken a lot of time to template tests, etc.  I have had this account for almost 18 years.  Unless there is a lot of complicated work, I don't see where you will need three months training.  Also your pay is very low to me, I could see 6 to 7 starting out if you don't have much experience.    My gals do not like to give up this account once they get trained on it as they can make close to $30 an hour.   But since there is such a long TAT, I demand perfection and there is no excuse for not getting the report done or notifying me that you have had something come up prior to an hour before the report is due back.    They do that once and they are pulled from the account.   But again, the call is yours, reports are pretty standard and you can make good line counts but you also need to be paid a decent wage.   Good luck.  Patti
Yes and absolutely worth it. I love to work
outside when weather permits.  I don't do it every day because hooking up and unhooking and having to carry everything gets to be a pain, but I do it on occasion.  I also like to travel, which is why I got a laptop to start with.   It allows me to work in the car or a couple of hours a day wherever we go so there is still some income, but I also have time to enjoy time with family.
Not worth it if you work your fingers to the bone and then never get paid
Good luck
I have work...16 hours' worth every day, 6 days a week no less. nm

I work part-time hours with full-time pay...
I made over 26,000 this year...
I work 1 full-time, 2 part-time....nm

Same thing with nationals. You work all the time to keep the account caught up when others dont work
and then when they decide to put a whole lot of extra people on your accounts and run you out they could care less about how much you worked.
I work for Warminster at MQ and I am sick to death of being jerked around with no work all the time.
I would like a job where I can depend on the work and it does not seem to be in this office of MQ.
Has anyone breast fed while trying to work at home, can you do this and still work full time?
It seems like the more literature I read on the subject, the longer it seems to take, especially in the beginning when you are breast feeding every two hours, or does it really just depend on the baby?
I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.
I work 2 and have for some time
Pretty much ever since my separation and then divorce back in 2002 I have worked 2 and 3 jobs. Right now I work a full time MT national job and a part time job for an imaging center doing MT and coding. It is hard sometimes to get it all done. I try to do my MT job and just do the other either in the mornings before or at night after. I am lucky in that my position is flexible. He emails the dictations from Express Scribe and sometimes he waits and sends a bunch at a time instead of daily. Those times it is hard to do it all. Doctors have minds of their own and sometimes forget they are not the only busy ones. The coding I do daily so no worries on that. My tip is to try to get enough rest and try to keep time in for family. I have a hard time with that some days. When my son says he wants to spend time with me I just have to make time and take the reality check seriously.
I became an IC 75% of the time and work for

I get to pick and choose what junque I'll take privately *LOL*

Working for the nat'l is merely to supplement a tad what I'm not yet making privately....but if I got 2 more MDs, I'd probably dump the nat'l....*LOL*

best of luck

How do you have any time to work?
You talk way too much. I doubt you can be that productive with these long, long, numerous posts.
I work for them and always on time nm

When do you know it is time to look for work?
I work for an MT service as an IC.  The last 6 out of 10 days I have had no work.  The other 4 days it has been light.  I know it's summer and its' slow but this really hurts the pocketbook.  And the company does not communicate anything at all to me.  If I call them, its' check back in 2 hours.....it's a broken record.  Should I sit tight or start looking?
when you know it time to look fo work

I have 5 accounts and haven' t had a full paycheck since  last October. Always run out on the weekends. Depends what account you have if you get work. I can't understand these MTs who are makey 50 grand a year.  Where do they work

I would go where you are sure you will have steady work all the time.
:
I can't remember the last time I ran out of work...sm
don't understand why people say that so much.  Must be a regional thing.  Well, I am sorry for the ones who run out of work and I am praying that things pick up across the board!
part-time work
www.thomastx.com - Hope to hear from you soon. Dee
I always have more work this time of year
I have my own office account and patients try to get in their yearly appointments before their yearly deductible is due in January again so my work always picks up this time of year. January is usually a little slow for me but it picks back up by February normally and stays quite consistent the rest of the time.
Yes, I work on the road all the time. I have...
I have a TASP (MetroScript) and so I can download my voice files as long as I can get an Internet connection. I even worked while on vacation in another country. It was awesome (well... working on vacation was not so great). We had no problem finding free wireless connections in the US but I did have to dial up when we were in another country. But my TASP handled everything else. I'm actually very happy with them. (www.metroscript.com)
So it's time we all start doing our own work (sm)

We cannot afford a middleman anymore.

If you think that's bad, try living on the 7-8 cents a line and still having the expenses of paying for equipment, etc.

Time to just find your own accounts, folks.

If you are only looking to work part-time (sm)

why not put an ad in the yellow pages for a word processing or typing service?  Typing is becoming outdated and I wouldn't waste the time and money on school.  Besides it takes a long time to get up to speed.

I'm the one who posted below about seeking medical care.  So now I have a nerve compression in the neck after years of being hooked up to a machine typing.  So the time deadlines add to the stress and do not help either.  I will try to enjoy my early retirement, I'm pretty young for a nerve compression.

Part-Time Work?
I am interested in training as an MT and would only want to work PT. Is it realistic to think this is possible?

My husband already has great benifits so that is not an issue. And I do not need full-time income, just enough so he does not have to travel so much.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Anyone work two jobs at the same time?
I only have dial-up and it is so so slow and now the company I work for has "updated" their system which has made my downloading even slower and can only download two jobs at a time.. so now I have to sit and wait for the next job to come through.  The hours at my present job are becoming less and less flexible too and most places I have inquired about want you to put in an 8 hours shift.  My situation is that I was getting my line requirements in in about 4 1/2 hours, but now with the so slow system, I fear I will be sitting and waiting for work and I just can't stand not being productive... after all I'm not being paid to sit.  Was thinking about taking another position, working 5 minutes on one computer, switching to another and working 5 more minutes while my work downloads on the first, and back and forth.   Anyone else do this?   Can it be done?  or am I just taking on more than I can handle?    This downtime really is killing me, not just $$$, but psychologically too... I'm a Type A and I just want to Git Er done.  Any suggestions?
Where I work, turnaround time
Where I work, turnaround time has become a major issue -- 1 hour turnaround time for reports which are not lower priority.
Will they let you do a work type at a time?
Or maybe a couple of the specialties at a time?
I write down what time I sit down to work....sm
Then I don't allow myself to get up until I have done an amount that I think is sufficient before taking a break.
Week Day Time Work Only

Has anyone heard of MT work that can be done during the daytime hours only.  I am currently being hassled/bullied into working nights, my sole reason for leaving a hospital job and working from home for a national company.  I may just have to send out 1,000 resumes to see if any local doctors/MTSO need such a position, but I am really beginning to doubt.  What about you?  Do you all work nights, weekends?  TIA.

Clinic MT looking for part-time work
Clinic MT with 3+ years experience in family practice, internal medicine, ENT, and cardiology looking for part-time work.  Prefer to work in Word, 2000+ lines per week.
Which MT companies seem to have enough work all the time for their MTs and pay decently. Thanks.

part time work at home

I work part time for Spheris...(sm)
They will hire you part time for the hours you're looking for; however, they don't hire IC status, which is what I wanted.

Spheris is not working out for me at all, but maybe it'll be what you're looking for.

Good luck!
I work 2 part-time IC jobs..sm
I feel like I have more stability that way just incase I want to leave one job or run out of work I always have a back-up.
I work 2 full time IC jobs. nm

I feel like I work all the time too and my kids- sm
are always asking me if I have to work (usually I do). Lately though I have started trying to go to bed by 10 and get up at 3, work from 3am-6:30am, get them off to school, then I have all day from 8-3:30 available to work. Then be free for them after school and work again after they go to bed if necessary. I am still not disciplined enough though and work more than I should, i.e. surf the internet, come here, etc. Waste time in other words. So if I can "stay" on my butt and work consistently I can average 16 minutes of dictation an hour, which is good for me. All I can say is try to set up a schedule adn stick to it. I keep meaning to write one up, but have not as yet myself (did this for college and hung it on my wall), so maybe your post will inspire me. Good luck.
I work 2 full time jobs..
I work from 8:00 - 4:30 then get home and start working about 6 pm. until 12-1 a.m. It's tough to do, but can be done if you are determined enough. I've been doing for almost one year now. The bad thing is I work salary during day hours, and paid cpl at night, so nothing is overtime pay for me. Would be easier to have one job with overtime allowed. We girls just do what we gotta do, don't we?
