I really miss Dark Shadows sm
Watched it as a kid all the time with my mother.
MTC--Providence

Hi,

I've just been offered a job with Medical Transcription Corp. in Providence.  Wiil be PT.  Any comments on this outfit?

Thanks.

Providence, dumb luck
Reluctantly applied at a hospital to code for billing (after only 3 years experience, I wanted to give up billing because it wasn't a good fit for me, but I desperately needed a job and was hoping they had positions for coding only, without processing claims and collections).  They asked if I'd try transcription - they were actually hiring/training anybody off the street that could type.  So glad I did!  I love this work and never want to do anything else!
Providence - I know that they hire only those who live in Oregon. nm

R.I.P. Our Little Angel
Thank you all for your prayers. Our little sweetheart passed away at about 11:30 am. Our hearts went with him. It must have been his time. He had been through surgery for a tumor and then radiation about 8 months ago, but we were told that we would have at least 4 to 6 more months longer with him. He was running around and doing great just last week. I just wish that we could have had longer.

God Bless

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words. Thank you for the beautiful poem. It is nice to know that people care and it means so much to us.

God Bless all of you.

Take care of yourself and your new little angel
I started as an IC when my first child was 18 months old.  My second child was born by c-section about a year after later.  There was a little in-house help, but I couldn't afford to take off much time, so I just took 2 weeks.  It was horrible trying to nurse, being sore sitting at the computer for long periods of time.  I had to try to be inventive propping 1 foot up at a time, using the Boppy around my waist, trying to nurse and type at the same time and literally wore myself out physically and mentally and made myself sick trying to work and care for my new baby and my oldest child.  With my 3rd pregnancy, I had twins.  I learned my lesson and took off 6 weeks.  This gave me plenty of time to heal from the surgery, care for 2 babies at once and care for my 2 older children and spend time with them all.  If you are able financially, etc. to take the time off then do it.  You will never get those precious moments back and after all your family should be your life not your job or making money.  Jobs and money come and go, but you will always be their mother.
You are an angel and get a halo from me today. sm
I think what you are doing is wonderful and wish there were more people like you. God love you.
Anyone who works at home with little ones is an angel. sm
I always wanted to try it when my kids were small, but knew it wouldn't work. I have to laugh at the "he said, she said" comment. My boys are now 28, 22, and 19. All three of them at home when they were small was like a lesson in mob action. Add to that the neighbor boys-5 of them-all the same age as my children and our neck of the woods was a war zone. I was lucky I could go to the bathroom without courting disaster and that was a big IF. I look back and wonder how I lived through it. We have good story telling time now, though........... So, anyone who manages to work at home with their children gets the halo of the day from me.
Has anyone ever heard of Angel Food Ministries?
We just discovered it in our local area and it's cheap groceries for families.  There's no income guidelines or anything here, it's just available to anyone who wants to order.  I just wondered if anyone else has taken advantage of this.  Here's a link to see if it's available in your neighborhood.
Recipe for angel hair dish...
*1 box Angel hair pasta
*2 dozen frozen raw jumbo shrimp thawed and peeled(thaws quickly under running water in collander)
*1-1/2 sticks butter and a 1/4 cup olive oil (prevents butter from hardening when cooled)
*A couple of cups of steamed (firm/not overcooked) and chopped brocolli
*Tablespoon of minced garlic or more or less to taste (I use the one in the jar - and we like garlic!)
*Salt and Pepper to taste - few dashes of each

*Melt butter and add oil, garlic, S&P on medium heat in small pot, mixing often
*Cook shrimp in butter mixture until just done and not overcooked, a handful at a time and removing when cooked and setting aside
*Cook and drain pasta, and transfer back into warm pasta pot
Add broccoli, cooked shrimp and pour butter mixture over all and blend together.

Top with parmesan cheese and a bit of parsley, if desired.

Delicious!!!
That is not how Angel Food Ministries works (m)
You have to pay your $25 ahead of the pickup day so everyone who has reserved their food, gets their food. It's not a "first come first serve" kind of thing. And again, if AFM wanted it to be only for low income, they would say so. It's not your business who participates, nor mine.
I have used Angel Food Ministries and love it. nm

Criss Angel is a doll, kind of strange some of the stuff he can do though.

Great show!!!

Fill us in, we are in the dark...sm

What are you talking about, I am lost and am a Country fan.

dark shadows
I used to watch it with my mom all the time too - too funny ! I can still see that guy's face with his fangs !
EST here...NC...dark and it just got done storming, which
this time of year is normal around here. Seems we have a pretty big thunder boomer every day...sometimes two or three times a day. Lightning so bright the street lights go out...
Docs are kept in the dark
When I told my Doc I was leaving the hospital he asked why and I told him. I also informed him of what was really happening with the transcription department and he had no idea at all. All of the Docs are up in arms about the work, but were not told that for awhile it was going offshore, and that we had a lousy supervisor who could care less, but sure covered her rear to her supervisor to make sure she looked good and left us to hang ourselves. She would not support us, but just screamed at us over nothing. My Doc was set straight, and I told him they need to be aware of what was going on and offer help.
Shot in the dark
here, and I know if you knew the answer to this you would have already done it. I sense your frustration, I understand what you are saying. Can you go in to the program files and totally delete the file that stores the tmp files? Maybe if it didn't have anywhere to put them it couldn't store them? Sorry, I'm no programer, but that was the first thing that came to mind.
is it bad to type in the dark??

I like the light on but hubby always walks into the room at night and turns the light off (you can tell who pays the electric bill).  I just wondered, is it better on your eyes to type with the light on or off?

I'm in the dark right now! I feel like my
typing speed is just a little faster when it's like this. The whole house is dark, everyone is in bed asleep (except the 2 cats). Now on Saturday mornings when I pull a very early morning shift, it's lights on and wake me up!!! LOL
I had a G. Shepherd who was afraid of the dark....
the minute the lights went out, she would bark continuously until the lights went back on. I put a night light in a socket where she slept and that ended the problem.
Love it! It gets dark in Maine in Dec. by 4 p.m.

I hate standard time though.  They can leave it as it is now and eliminate going back to standard time in the fall as far as I'm concerned.  The clocks always go back right before Halloween too so the little ghosts and goblins have to trick or treat in the dark.

It does mess things up a bit changing over though.  Last night my kids were all hungry and I said, "Oh for goodness sakes it's only . . . .. ALMOST SEVEN??"

Oops. . . . "hello, Dominos?"  :)

Talk about the dark ages
I worked as inhouse Transcriptionist from 1973 to 2002 and never, ever had to perform the duties you speak of. I did transcription and that was it. And talking about it being so stressless at home, there are posts here time and time again about people being bothered by the phone, door, neighbors and the children and being unable to work so can work both ways except I never did the first.
I think we were all kidding! Sarcasm - dark humor...
nm
I agree with the suggestion of dark chocolate.
Also, I keep a bag of Hershey's kisses hidden. Whenever I need a boost, I just let one melt in my mouth. I can't eat an entire candy bar or bag of M&Ms. Too much sugar!
Hershey's Special Dark syrup on top of
bananas has been doing it for me lately. Yummmmmmmmm!
Who is the dark haired guy, boyish looking, sang Sinatra? I think he's out
/
So you have also noticed the light and dark shades in text. I wasnt aware that it was like this when
I bought it. Is there anything to make this better at all. I just bought this whole computer system with LCD screen and I guess I will call them and see what can be done or just get used to it. I like it but not so much having the text look like that. Have you spoken to anyone about yours.
Mine was from my high school test, back in the dark ages.

We have a cocker spanial who is afraid of storms and afraid of the dark! He is up every night severa
Even with a night light he still gets afraid of the dark and I have to get up and pet him and tell him it is okay, et cetera. He will finally settle and go back to sleep, but will do it again throughout the night. I let him sleep in my room thinking it would help..but it didnt. He is just a big baby, so we love him and try to make him feel as safe as we can. If we have to deal with thunderstorms and the dark we are in for a long night!!
And I bet you miss Dan Rather

how'd I miss that one? nm

Yes, we certainly are going to miss
him here in KY
I will miss them too!
I don't know if I can wait until next summer for it to start up again!

Hit or Miss?

Ok, from what I am gathering is that it is pretty much a "hit or miss" when it comes to taking MT courses, no matter who they are.

I have never heard anyone say anything negative about Andrews or M-Tec.  Is it possible that ALL of their students are 100% satisfied?

What I miss and what I don't

What I miss from in-house - being able to talk to the doctors and techs about problem reports, being able to ask for clarification and get an immediate answer, very easy QA, very easy dictations, the easy wardrobe (we wore scrubs), the security and perks, knowing if I had a low production day or took vacation my check wouldn't suffer, and the friends I made there.

What I don't miss - Getting paid the same (or less) than than slackers, having to rotate weekends, constant interruptions, constant demands (fax this, drop what you're doing and find my report, boring staff meetings while the work piles up, shop/cook for this potluck), little kids screaming in the hall, politics and getting along with difficult people.

But I'd say - go for it, if you'll make more money at a job that close, its a chance in a lifetime.

Did I miss something?!
Why do people insist I am not listening, researching, and typing?! I am so stressed out to the max to try and impress people for what?! Pennies per line! No feedback anyone gives me is going to change the fact that the blind leads the blind at the service?! Do it this way, no do it that way?! No "listening" is going to make an ESL talk any better, slower, or clearer! Wow! I came here for support, from people who understand, not to get a "keep trying, you'll never know everything!" I NEVER said ANYTHING about not wanting feedback or about my ability! None of this has to do with what was originally posted! Please, only reply with what pertains to the actual post! Thanks!
did I miss something? what does this message mean?
Just wonderin' , BTW!
