I think it's the temporary files because when it starts acting like this, there are TONS of temp

Even closing Word doesn't make the files go away--I have to delete them manually.

As far as plug-ins, I have tried disabling them before but no luck. I can go months without a problem, plug-ins and all, and then, BAM, it starts happening all the time. I usually start holding my breath when I have a string of "crash-less" days (even more than I usually do to hold my gut in).

I'm beginning to think it's those automatic updates from Microsoft that are adding gremlins...can't say that I'm not beyond thinking that Mr. Gates would have his reasons for doing that, although I can't say for sure what they might be right now.

I'm open to any more ideas you might have.

Have to disable Norton Internet Sec & Del all Temp files every time, why???
I cannot get the links to stay but I know it has to be due to something in Norton because if I disable Norton Internet Security and then go to Tools, Internet Options, choose General tab, then Temporary Files, Delete Files, Delete all off line content, and hit okay, then I get them back, but they don't stay consistently. :(

Can anyone tell me what needs to be changed/added in Norton's Internet Security to keep the links/forums available in the blue/on the left side??? I have tried everything I can think of. I sure would appreciate your help.

TIA.
Temp files disappear when you shut down Word. System restore does not recover documents .

Express Scribe is very easy. Files download, you will see them, click on one and it starts when you
press your pedal.  That simple.
This story line is the best and best acting so far...
I think. I have never been a big Kristian Alfonso (Hope) fan until now. She is doing a BEAUTIFUL job acting and every time I watch this story line, I cry!! I really like where the show has gone. I read that things will get very interesting between Bo and Hope and this death of their son will be a catalyst for better things to come. Can't wait to see more of this show!!
Why don't you ALL stop acting like 6th graders
What is the point of all this petty name calling, put-downs, and general meangirl behavior? Seriously, if you're content in your job, just do it and be happy that you are. Thousands of other MTs have been screwed over and that is a fact.
Temporary resolution
I scanned the SOAP sheet and can print it out (and it looks very good) and then use the sheets I have printed to print the first page of transcription on and the office is okay with this, at least for now. The MA will have to transfer the info from the original SOAP sheet header/template to the one I return with the transcription. I feel bad that I am causing the MAs more work but we all agreed that this seems to be the simplest way to go. It will actually save them money not having to purchase the sheets from the printing co. any longer at least. :) Money always talks, ya know. :D
You can always subcontract out on a temporary - sm
basis (per dium) until you get caught back up. Just make sure you tell the MTs you hire that. I think for a couple weeks or so the doc's can live with you getting some help; what they don't know won't hurt them either, just make sure you go over the work before you send it in to them.
Why is spellcheck acting up on me? Did I mess up the settings?
If you have any ideas why it is now checking headers/footers when it did not do that before, please advise. It is driving me crazy.
Quit acting like 5 year olds. Neither one
of you is exactly making a good impression.
Question about temporary relocation!

Due to a family crisis, I will be relocating to Georgia for maybe up to 2 years.  I will be leasing my home to a family member here in Alabama.  Just wondering, should I continue to use my Alabama address in regards to IRS, vehicle registration, insurance etc, or register as a Georgia citizen.  Since I will not be head of household in Georgia, will I not be able to claim the home office on taxes.  I will only be 2 hours away from home, and will probably travel here every other weekend, as my parents live here in Birmingham.  I work as an employee with one company via internet and IC with another via internet.  Just wondering, as there are so many things to think about.

Suggestions about temporary assistance (sm)
. If you own or buying a home and have mortgage insurance, check to see if "disability insurance" is included.

. If you have a life insurance policy, check the "temporary disability" section.

. If you have retirement/401K, etc., loans are available for medical/disability purposes.

. SAGA (state-administrated general assistance program).

. State of _______ temporary assistance/department of social services -- cash or medical assistance for individuals who are unable to work.

I'm not 100% certain about any of the above, but it could be a starting point.

Remembering you in my prayer!

Post again soon to keep in touch -- ask if there is a "social worker" turned MT on line who can direct your path.

I dunno...why don't YOU stop acting on your impulse to love men?
Love your *logic*...
Quick! Need some temporary/overflow work

Does anyone know where I can get hold of some temporary/overflow work?  I am between jobs and applying but this takes time, as we all know.

I need to work in MS Word and with high-speed, business-grade satellite.  We have no land line (cell phones only).  I am able to pick up voice files from a secure server, transcribe them in MS Word on my computer, and send transcription back via the secure server.

I did find some temporary/backlog work but now it's all caught up, so I need more.

I have 20 years' experience in everything from acute-care hospital to clinic notes.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me here.  Thanks!

Temporary dog house is easy to build.
Take a large cardboard box, cover outside of it with multiple sections of newspaper, then tape large plastic sheets (open up garbage sacks) over it. It is well insulated against cold and wet.
This used to happen to me - made a few temporary enemies, but
I finally just started saying, "I know I work at home, but I still have a certain amount of work I have to get done." And once I have told them that, for future interruptions, I say, "I'm sorry, I'm at work right now." My inlaws used to decide to show up for dinner on weeknights as if I had all day to just be preparing dinner for them. Just saying something like, " You know, because I work at home, a lot of my friends just assume I can stop what I'm doing for them, they don't realize that although I am in my house, I am also at work." That way it's not directed at the current offender, but they still get the point.
For temporary relief, try Salonpas patches SM
I have chronic back pain and went through the chronic pain classes with my HMO. The spine surgeon suggested trying Salonpas patches. I didn't think they would help at all, but they did give me some temporary relief. I feel they work as well as the expensive "name brand" heat patches you can buy, although if I am going to be on an airplane, I wear one of those bigger and longer lasting patches. The Salonpas are about 2 x 3 inches, flat, have a pleasant odor, and I have used them on my back, on the wrists, and one time even on my face for a sinus-type headache. (My daughter says I was crazy to do that, but it helped). You can buy a box of the Salonpas very reasonably at any drugstore but they are VERY cheap at Sam's Club or Costco. It is really awful to have to transcribe (or do any work) when it causes pain. I hope some of these suggestions others have made will help you. I have used the type of neck pad that you heat in the microwave, but that was a long time ago. I just saw them on the Mouse Mitts site, thanks to the MT who posted the link. I'm going to order another one of those right away. There are a lot of helpful people out there. Take care...

That happens sometimes..probably temporary problem with your mail server (NM)

temp
82 and falling in MS.  2033 hours.  100% humidity.  I am having a bad hair week.
I live in PA and the temp is now
almost 90 with a predicted 99 degrees for us later today. I just brought in both horses, started up their personal fans, filled their 6-gallon water buckets and sprayed them like crazy for horrible flies. This is just too hot for me!
TEMP MT PAYS VERY WELL...sm
Though there are not that many to be had right now ... in a large city, in the late 80s to 90s, paid $16-$17/hr.

Ditto....mine is acting like last night never happened - I told him he is a total A-hole when he is
drunk.  He doesn't remember all the crap he said last night of course. I have to start tape recording him, think its time to get a digital recorder.......might come in handy in the future if I ever need it.
temp+heat index= HOT!
Heat index here Sunday (according to National Weather Service) was 126°! 97° temp and 77% humidity = 126. Not sure how they got that figure, but it was during the county fair parade, and some high school kids marching barely made it the 3 mile route. Kids and I escaped to a movie theater!
And PS: There's plenty of temp. work out there!
.
Here's another suggestion--temp work.
No, seriously. If you can transcribe, you are well-qualified for many, many temp jobs that might be available to earn a little extra cash while you hunt for a real job. I did the temp thing via Kelly Services when I was younger; did several one and two-day assignments, and even a 2-month one once. When I last job-hunted 7 months ago, I was about ready to go sign up for temp services, and in fact did go to that office--but they had closed early that day, so I didn't get to it, and about 2 days later I got hired for a permanent job.

Anyway, it's well worth a try if nothing else is popping, and you could even make some local contacts that way. You never know.
Has anyone ever worked for a temp agency? sm
I am thinking of working for a temp agency for extra income. I am trying to find out what kind of testing do they do.
and vice versa - the people acting like a big city life consists of living in a ghetto

Office jobs for temp service?

If you do office work for a temp service you can pick/choose which jobs you like and if you don't want to work for a 20-something it won't be a problem.  Most of the temp services also offer software classes and you can upgrade your skills or learn something new and then after you've mastered it, ask for more money!  I got back into the workforce about 2 years ago after MT burnout.  Most of my assignments were pretty good.  I had one really BAD one and I quit after a day.  The woman was absolutely impossible to work for.  I later learned I was the 4th temp in a week and the temp service owner finally said they were "firing" that client - LOL.

I asked her why she sent me if she knew the woman was that difficult.  She said she figured I could handle it.  Gee, thanks!

I worked in the computer industry as a temp for large giants, Intel and Oracle, before deciding on a job in the regulatory affairs division of a medical device manufacturer.  It was fun working at the big companies and I became badly spoiled with all the latest/greatest technology and on-site cafes.  I learned a LOT!

Unfortunately, big companies are doing more temp help now and its all but impossible to get a perm job.  Don't sell yourself short & think you can only be a Wal-Mart greeter.  You do have valuable skills from MT and could utilize them in a higher paid position than a greeter.  Leave that job to the poor senior citizens who are now having to go back to work.

Filezilla is the software used to transfer files to an FTP server where the files "reside".

Just the usual clerical crud that temp companies have. nm

Day Labor/ Temp Agencies/pizza delivery
You only asked for meal advice.. I just wanted to tell you about these places in case you didn't know. Every city usually has several "day labor" companies. Your dh would have to arrive around 5-6 am, they would take him to a site all day. They usually pay the same day. He would need is license and ss card.
Most temp agencies have jobs immediately available too.

Another idea is to deliver pizza at night. He could still do real estate during the day. He would get cash right away. They pay for gas mileage, at least minimum wage, he would get tips, and PIZZA! :-)

Converting voice files to digital files

I have a Voice Solutions dictation system that will happily convert DS4000 voice files to digital when they are downloaded (wave files). However, it will not recognize any other files for conversion. I had a physician download .WAM files from his DS-30 and my dictation system would not convert it. Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!!!

TONS

tons
I have a couple large accounts with hundreds of docs and a smaller one with 50 or so. I rarely get the same doc twice.
Did you save files in .rtf format? The files need to be
as a Word document or it won't count them. Could be the problem.
tons of work
im loaded to the gills...and i need some time off...crazy how some companies can be so different in there work load.
TONS today.......

Been very slow and all of a sudden BAM!

I'll take it!

and they are still making tons of $$....sm

the naysayers panning the Stones probably could never afford to go and buy a ticket even to see them today....that's how expensive their tickets for a concert are today!!!

*snickers*

Tons of them this week. I just sm
reregistered for the do not fall list. We will see if it changes. Very annoying.
Yeah, there are tons (sm)

Here is a link showing how to find the 'Word command list.'  The list itself is too long to post.  http://www.melbpc.org.au/pcupdate/2207/2207article6.htm

I also subscribe to Word Tips.  I usually find a tip or two in each E-mail that is useful and I save them in one document for reference.  http://wordtips.vitalnews.com/

I do PT and make tons of money...sm
very easy work. Few ESL in that field and they are very agreeable to working with you. Lots of word Expander phrases, hardly any drugs, no labs. Love it. Make more money in PT with less cpl than any of my other accounts just because I can crank it out.
There are TONS of stores that I see every place I go.

Never had a slow day, still tons of work.

STruck me funny that you said there must be tons of it. Probably mostly us MTs. (sm)

I always give tons of praise...
if I see the newbie is consistently giving her best, looking up words and even THINKING about them LOL - I find most newbies are pretty hard on themselves without my help!
or this one is my fave tons of work..

There usually is for thre first three months at most..then nothing.  I have no problem working on the hard accounts, but when it gets down to $30-$50 a day at most, it gets very frustrating.  One spends all day logging in a looking for work to find one or two jobs.  When you can't pay your bills, you have to move on.  I want to find a company that consistently has the work...have yet to find it.....

Would help me tons if all dictators sounded like
Patrick Stewart.  Ah, if only someone could make it so!  (she grins)
yes of course I use tons of expanders. At the most 25% normals though.

Tons of up-to-date resources;) sm
Make sure you have all the resources you need that will cover a lot of specialties, especially for ops. I wouldn't worry too much. You will basically just be learning more words. Just have the resources you need for quick finds to help you pick up speed. I'm sure you'll do fine!

Can you email me the name of the company you are starting with? Even though I've been in this business for over 15 years, I don't have the "recent" acute care experience most companies are requesting. However, I do have at least 10 years in the past. Thanks!
I am 31 too and maybe it starts in your 30s. Who knows
I hate it when I have just uploaded a report and I freak out thinking I left something off or forgot to check something. I feel so dumb!

I think have children robs you of brain cells too!
