don't think it unprofessional at all, especially if the patient and/or family are religious.  I hear something similar on occasion.

Sensitive about what?
I don't even work for MQ.  I just thought your post looked kind of stupid because how would you know if Americans are lazy if you're not American and don't live as Americans do?  If you are American, you're part of the group you called lazy.  I'm not sensitive about anything.  I just thought you looked kinda silly for not thinking things through.
A bit sensitive huh?

If you feel you are being attacked, it's because of your original statement.  We were simply pointing out that what you are doing is wrong. Period. And I still think you need to put on your big girl panties.

that is so incredibly LAME!
but the difference is that i happen to keep a better attitude, and if it goes south, i start looking for better pastures.
I think the message was that you are the one that is sensitive. Not me.

sensitive to smells
I used to be allergic to anything in the laundry detergent, strong perfumes, etc categories. I would walk down the aisle to buy laundry detergent and wheeze and sneeze. I found out I had many environmental allergies and had six years of allergy shots, and then I got tired of them, but I now have immunity. I also used to get the bad headaches. Tylenol Sinus/Flu helped me a lot. Sometimes though, really strong musk or other perfumes will make me sick. Maybe an allergy doctor could help you also.
They work INCREDIBLY well, BUT...

You're not supposed to use them until AFTER you've had a cleaning by your dental hygienist.  The reason is because the strips can only whiten what they come in contact with.  You might think there is no buildup on your teeth, but there is usually some for us all--especially between the teeth!  I have heard of people using the strips and getting white teeth all outlined in yellow!

I used the strips after a cleaning, and I have to say they worked better than I ever dreamed they would!

Maybe you're too sensitive
I've re-read the posts, and I don't see anyone being insulting. We are tired of having our jobs taken away, our wages being cut by one-third or more over the past 5-7 years, while all our concomitant expenses have gone up.

We are tired of everyone else in this world thinking that it is their right to leech off the U.S.A.

We are tired of our medical records and other confidential information being in the hands of foreigners who are not subject to the laws here that are supposed to protect us. Identity theft is at epidemic proportions in this country. That is in no small part because so many of our corporations offshore their accounting, billing, and customer service work giving foreigners our SSN, address, income information, marital status, and other vital info.

If your feelings got hurt, too bad. We're fighting for our livelihood here.

BTW, for a South African to protest that something on this board was "insulting" to the rest of the world is stupendously arrogant. Not all Americans are as ignorant of the rest of the world as you think we are. Your country has a long history of obstinancy and arrogancy bordering on lunancy.
Dear Sensitive
I gave you my opinion, which wasn't UNkind = ask you supervisor how to handle this type of situation (how much should/can you edit for the account(s) you are assigned to).

They will likely appreciate your caring enough to be sure you are transcribing accurately...
This sounds maybe like you are a little sensitive
rather that something else. I, like you, have a thyroid problem but others really do not understand. I have to take medications for the rest of my life. Hey, I used to get (and still do sorta underlying from 1 member of family) barbs from my father until I told him to ask his physician (whom he trusted apparently more than anyone) about the thyroid deal. He eased up after that but before OMG! The thing about making room, that could be innocent but maybe to you or I or your friend that means something else. My feelings have been hurt before so I know. The thing about the insurance- my time in applying for life insurance I told person on the phone about husband 260 pounds and 6'4- they immediately told me overweight and would have to come to home to interview him and see. They found a very well-built, muscular man and they said, hes not overweight, just a really big man and wrote the policy. Having said that, insurance companies are more strict now about insuring people overweight, with things like diabetes, hypertension and the like. They just are like that. I know because my present husband fits both the above and I cannot get life insurance on him, just risks they do not want to take even though he takes no medicine for diabetes and keeps in check with a good lifestyle and eating habits- hereditary with him. Working at home, though, does not stop a Transcriptionist because it is not an inhouse thing now like it used to be. I have lived the above so I know others can be cruel sometimes.
noise sensitive
Well, go figure, we are trained to pick up every little detail in dictation and to do that, our ears are extremely acutely tuned to every nuance. You just can't shut it off when the ear phones come off.
You are so incredibly lucky!
I got my first gray hairs at 22 flippin years of age, courtesy of my mother who also grayed early. At least I inherited my dad's bone structure with high cheekbones so I guess it all balances out.

Anyone else overly sensitive to smells?

Went to the grocery store today and smelled one of those new Glade candles things and it wasn't a particularly strong smell (Rose and vanilla) but by the time I put it back on the shelf I had a throbbing headache and by the time I got to the end of the aisle I thought I was going to puke.   I never know what will set me off - although artificial blueberry flavoring kept me in bed for 3 days and anything with this in it is banned from my house.

I avoid fragrance counters in department stores, get fragrance-free magazines, try to avoid smokers and even the butt buckets they have in front of stores.

Is there anything you do to head off a wicked headache when you are exposed to something?   I haven't always been like this, but the older I get the worse it seems to get.  I'm not bad enough I feel like I need to wear a mask in public, but I've thought I would have to get better to die a couple of times.

i'm overly sensitive to sound!
do you suppose its from having sound pipped into our ears close-range!?
don't forget that it seems to be case sensitive.

It's how incredibly arrogant this administration is!
How can you trust anything that comes from anyone in this adminstration's mouth?  Starting at the very top!!  I can NOT wait until his dictatorship is over.  I am really praying that the Democrats get back in office.  I can not stand the Bush administration's air of superiority.  I don't appreciate being made to look foolish on the world stage.  Bush and his cronies are an embarrassment to this country.  I can not wait until their regime ends!!
Singapore - incredibly beautiful. nm

It is not about religion being a sensitive subject, it is about

posting on the correct forum.  The Main board gets so jammed that we have had to create other forums for particular subjects.  We only ask that posters kindly utilize those forums instead of posting every single thing on the Main board.

Again, thank you.

Ok. I stand corrected...may be overly sensitive..sm
I work for two places, one full time as IC and one part time as IC. Full time is small service with approximately 14 MTs. I get paid by the gross line at .067 cpl, typed in courier new 12. I have worked there for three years. Part time IC job is .08 cpl at 55 characters, typed in TNR 12. I consider both of these to be low paying, after reading some of the others, but they pay the bills. I guess.
Incredibly it is. Check other jobs on mtjobs.com. A few are in the 9-10 cpl range. nm

I wasn't aware Asian people were sensitive
about it. Where I live I guess we don't have the largest Asian population. Those I have met have been rather reserved and didn't discuss anything personal to someone they met in business or a casual meeting. So forgive me if I used the wrong term when I said Oriental, because I was just attempting to be vague since I didn't check on the origin of the dictator's name. As for those who suggested I leave a blank, any report with more than 3 blanks has to go to QA. So I take the time to look at his other reports for instances where he either said it better or the MT was better at that particular accent. I'm quite good at many accents, including Korean (let me acknowledge that Korean would be a particular Asian accent so we don't start another time-consuming discussion over that tiny point). But whatever particular Asian accent this person has, at least with the system we are using to record his voice, I have trouble with. But I get a few reports by him nearly every day, so I've started a list of the phrases he doesn't pronounce well. Whatever his first language is obviously didn't use many of our sounds, so I was just thinking it would probably take a speech therapist to train him. IMO, some of his training isn't appreciated fully if his patients can't understand him when he speaks, or MTs have to leave blanks in his reports. So with all the education he's had already, what would be a few weeks of speech therapy, is what I'm thinking.
You must be incredibly blessed with clear dictators & many templates. Wow..nm

All the men I have ended up with sound like the guy you are with. Takes all the courage I have to pick up and leave them but staying with them destroys my sense of self esteem, my sense of humor, and dulls my passion for life.

Now, sitting here, quietly, sipping a capuccino, sitting in a robe, having no expectations (unrealistic) of me, not having the guy in my world stifling me or doing something out of this world to send my spiraling into my mind trying to figure out what he is thinking ...orrr the always present poor financial state that I always seemed to end up in when with a guy (my dad was alcoholic - had tendency to be with men who had character traits of addictive personality types)and all I can think of is life is passing me by cause I am not with a man.

There are worst things than being alone. Why do I forget this???

Follow your gut. Your kids will thank you. Children deserve a happy mom and you deserve to live the life you envision.

Was going to suggest that you wait to buy as I have a feeling some homes will end up in foreclosure as the interest rate increases and the monthly payments on ARMs and interest only loans increase, but if you have a small town that may not be the case.

Let us know how things go.

My husband is sensitive to smells, he takes Sudafed Sinus which helps him with the headache
I have sensitivity problems too but like you I never know what is going to set me off, I don't get headaches though, I get hives and chills, real fun. Luckily it only happens about once a year and its been about 3 years since my last episode.

I feel your pain. I had been providing excellent service, never increased rates, always met TAT (usually supposed to be 48 hr, but most times office mgr would call and needed it in 24 -- a huge amount of dictation). As you did, I always put them first, above everything else. Well, the office manager decided to start transcribing it herself, and she did not even tell me that she was going to do it. I waited a little while (longer than I should have) hoping she was just trying to pay for Christmas (she had actually done that before) and I finally had to do something else. The something else did not work out either, and I am lucky to have what little work I do have right now. Meanwhile, she now has two full-time paychecks (yes, this was a full-time paycheck for me). It is a good thing that although I was making full-time money on their account (working 2 days per week) I never let go of my other work, but I still may wind up in the big "B" court as my options now are few, and I stupidly took care of things I needed to with credit cards while waiting for her to return the work to me. I also knew that she was going to call me spur of the moment wanting me to do the work when she was ready for a break/vacation, which she did, but I was unavailable to her as I had picked up the something else by then. I just wish that I had never heard of being an MT. As much as I love the work, the business is awful.

I have heard that if you get a cheap one you'll have problems with the screen freezing up when switching back and forth. I'd really like to get one where you can use a hot key to switch back and forth. Can you please tell me what brand yours is?

A different kind of job

I have no idea how these things fall into my lap and don't how this will go but just met and got offered to do "formatting and editing" of finished documents for a Waste Recovery Company -- fancy name for garbage and recycling company.  This manager has to do long reports, handouts, employee manuels, etc. and just wants to type the report and all I do is edit -- not grammar or punctuation -- use a consistent outline form, do title pages, do headers and footers, make sure pages are correctly numbered for $25 an hour.  She wants me to make it have "eye appeal and look pretty."   She spends hours formatting and hates it and so I am going to try it.  Decided I had nothing to lose to try.   Depending on how fast I am probably not more than 6 to 12 hours per month so we will see how it goes.  But she did say if it worked out well, they have several other branches in Montana, Idaho, California and they might be able to use me more at those facilities also that have to do the same reports.  So guess I am branching out somewhat.   Just as one door closes, another open as had one of my most profitable account, suddenly retired due to ill health.  So was thinking of looking for another account when I got this call.    SOmething different at least.

That was kind of like what I was saying before
Right to work states do that to people.

However, I am sorry you lost your job after all of that. It would have been easier if they had just told you the truth in the first place.
Yes ma'am. It's kind of cool actually..............
you can see everything they're doing and once they're done, they're gone.
what kind of person are you?????

"don't dog the people looking for your daughter and investigating the people who may have seen her last. "

okay, well maybe she feels that not enough is being done.  I mean, she did just lose her daughter.  Imagine that feeling.  I can't.  I am quite sure if it were me, no one COULD be doing enough.  I would probably be on everyone's case until she were found.  Also, are you dense?  OF COURSE they are going to investigate the people who have seen her last.  HAHAHAHAHA.  I cannot believe that comment.  Who else would they investigate??????

As far as the rest of your post, I don't believe it even deserves acknowledging.  Your thoughts speak for the kind of person you are.

What kind of advice do you want?

It's a rough life raising your kids and running a household by yourself while you worry about your husband's safety.  The kids can sense your stress, so they act up as well.  Then when your husband gets home from wherever he's been, you have to readjust to having him around again.  A lot of it also depends on what branch of the military he wants to get into, as well as active duty or guard/reserve.  If you're active duty, you never know where you're going to be sent to next.  It could be somewhere nice, or it could be a foreign country with mandatory boarding schools for your kids.  People think that military families have it so easy, but the military pay and benefits aren't great compared to what we could make if we moved to a big city.  Military housing has a lot of problems, and the old housing development with the leaking foundations, high water table, and backed up sewer lines is still being used by young military families 25 years after we lived there.  I could get into more details, but every time I do, people here think they know more about my life experience than I do, so I won't.

what kind of keyboard
Just curious, what type of keyboard do you type on?  I use the Microsoft erogonomic.  I absolutely love it!  I find that if I type on the traditional keyboards  my hands hurt.  Also, do you wear gloves for carpal tunnel protection?  I wear gloves and have found this helps me tremendously.  I have been doing transcription for about 15 years.
What kind of software is best?
Thanks.
thanks for the kind words - it does help...:)
I know lots of places are hiring, but I don't have enough experience for most of them and am afraid to jump from the frying pan into the fire....

Well, it kind of depends. SM
Most of the pain management I've seen strongly encourages other modalities, depending on the patient and the condition. Exercise (swimming or aqua therapy are popular), stationary bicycle, walking, physical therapy (massage), acupuncture, sometimes counseling to help adjust to the chronic pain and accept it better, diet - an overall healthy lifestyle. Whatever the patient can do to make them feel better.

However, pain medication is still a fairly normal component - it's just watched and managed carefully with an emphasis on using it appropriately.

Unfortunately, even though our understanding of pain has grown over the years, sometimes all they can do is try and medicate it.
