I think pre-existing stuff may kick in if you have have no certificate of previous coverage.

If you currently have no pre-existing conditions and
are just worried about any problems that may occur between now and the 90 days get a temporary insurance.   Deductible is very high, but premium is very low.  You will have to pay out of pocket unless there is a catastrophic event.   You can't get this insurance though if there is a pre-existing condition and there can't have been a lap of insurance.
If you have no pre-existing conditions look into
getting a private policy.  Should be able to get a good one for under $400 and maybe less depending on deductible.
Question about pre-existing exlusions on new

I'm leaving my long-time current MT job.  The insurance at the new job  won't be effective for over 90 days (I"m not sure if it's PPO, POS or HMO).  I will be paying COBRA to my old job in the meantime, though I sure am tempted to go a couple of months without it and hope for the best.

I'm hearing that many insurances are not covering pre-existing conditions.  Is this true even if I  have COBRA? Is there a federal regulation on this or will it vary from company to company?

HIPAA laws require that all pre-existing..sm...
conditions be covered as long as there is NO break in coverage.
Another thought . . . get the pre-existing clause in writing from your employer --

Not from the insurance company itself, because the insurance company may tell you something different from what the agreed-to clause between them and your employer says.

Insurance company interprets pre-existing condition in a different way than your employed agreed to in their contract with the insurance company.

Again, get it in writing from your new employer -- that is what counts -- not what the insurance may interpret as preexisting.  There is a contract between employer and insurance company, and that wording needs to be clarified by HR person handling the insurance benefits.

Here's the deal. The only way to avoid the pre-existing waiting period (usually 12 months) is to
insurances..Even at that, say you have coverage until the end of July miss August and get new insurance September 1, your new insurance cant do a 12-month waiting on you for pre-existing but they can make you wait that 1 month that you didnt have insurance so...in effect, if you new insurance starts on Sept 1..it wouldnt have to cover a preexisting problem until October 1 cuz you missed a month. My advice.. keep the Cobra.. I know it's a fortunate but if you had any kind of complication or anything related to a preexisting and you have to miss a month of coverage..it could be really painful. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Assuming your existing documents are based on the Normal template...
You can open the Normal template, make the changes you mention, and then save it. When you open your existing documents, they will be corrected. Hope this is the info you're looking for.
Need bridge policy ASAP. Where can I get it? Have SEVERAL pre-existing conditions and meds
Just one medication at full cost is half of the COBRA payment plus I have steroid and Botox injections scheduled. Need insurance. Can anybody tell me where I can obtain "bridge insurance" without going broke?
You need to get over this kick you are
on and get it through you 60 pound skull that I am my own person, I am not responding to anything I post. Whether or not you believe it, fine. I have no reason to lie about it. Get a life and a hairbrush.
Why don't you go kick your dog?

Here's what I get a kick out of....sm
I agree with you 100%. I really get a kick out of the people playing "grammar police" who end up having typos in their own messages!
I never got my certificate

My pedal never materialized either, but I did get a reimbursement for that.  I finished going on two years ago and never got it.  Seems to me things are going down hill.

IF you paid by credit card, you can call them and try to get it credited back so you will at least have your money.  I would keep calling them...every day if you have to.

If you have a certificate in MT, sm
Be careful stating you have a "certificate" in MT. There is a certification through AAMT (or whatever their new name is) but it is vastly different from a certificate from a school. I'm assuming you mean you received a certificate upon completion of an MT course of some kind, as the CMT requires a certain amount of experience, I believe (and a CMT would not have trouble finding work). If that's the case, have you asked the school about job placement assistance? If they are a reputable school, they should know employers that will hire their graduates and help you find work.

I would advise AGAINST getting your own accounts. Not only is there a lot to learn about running the business side of it, you will be completely on your own and there will not be much communication or hand-holding from the doctors or their staff. Many doctors will not look twice at someone without experience, either. If you go out there marketing for your own accounts, then the doctors are going to expect you to have all the equipment necessary, be well trained, well educated, and able to produce client-ready documents without assistance on their part. They will expect you to be current on any technology they wish to use. That is why they outsource MT - so they don't have to spend time and money training someone or furnishing equipment, etc. If you do work for local doctors and cannot provide all of that, it could do more damage to your reputation than good. Most docs know each other and talk. That word of mouth is crucial and can make or break you. I'm sorry, but my honest opinion is that a newbie cannot possibly provide the superior service most offices desire because they don't know what it is just yet. If it was as easy as just "working hard," everyone would be doing it, after all. There are a lot of services and individuals out there competing for the doctors' work, so you have to be able to provide better quality and service than they do.

Oh, and also, a lot of private practice doctors are far pickier than you might think. They often actually read their reports before signing them (especially when you are new to them), refer to the reports often in their charts, and expect them to be up to par. If they see a lot of typos or errors, they will cut you loose and move on to the next service looking to earn their work. Who do you think sets forth the specifications that many of the companies you have already spoken to or tested with? Probably their clients!

Now, is it possible you might find some doctor out there willing to give it a shot? Yes. But just because doctors in one town haven't heard of the BOS, that doesn't mean others have not. Did your MT course not go over BOS rules? If BOS rules are what you are having trouble with and want to avoid, then I suggest getting a copy of the current BOS, studying it, and learning it so future testing is excellent. If you test well with a company even without experience, they'd be foolish not to at least take a second look. If you lack experience and don't test well, what incentive do they have to hire? There are a LOT of good MTs looking for work right now, so you have to make yourself stand out above the rest.

If you feel your schooling was inadequate, look into supplemental training at one of the online MT schools that have been approved by the AAMT. Those are the schools that prepare their graduates well enough to get work right out of school and for which companies will often waive experience requirements.
I'd get up and kick my dog if I got that. I like short SM
little tonsillectomies and stuff. :) Keeps me awake.
Yes, but they get such a kick out of being jerks. So
either you don't post or you put up with skipping the trolls and not letting them get to you. For the most part, people on this board are very helpful and friendly. Too bad the others don't just go away!
Probably around $24K if you kick butt - sm
Not too many MTs make $44K; if they do they either work 18+ hours a day or have their own accounts and still work long hours. If you need a steady reliable income you are best staying where you are; or do your current job at home if you can.
How about a gift certificate for a
for a decadent say of self-indulgence. I wouldn't mind a massage right now and would LOVE it if someone bought me one. LOl
I am not getting my certificate for monetary
reasons. Its for me and my professional pride, which means a lot to me. As for the $$ end, I have been interviewing at several companies, and all did pay, on average, 1 cpl more for CMT. That's quite a differential to me! But I'm staying with my regular job, which does not pay a differential. Its just something I want to achieve in my career.
I'm not talking about a certificate that says you

CMT= certified medical transcriptionist.

MTs with 2+ years of acute care experience who pass a test given by the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT)are CMTs.  They also need to prove they have accumulated a certain amount of continuing education credits every three years in order to maintain the certification.  HTH.

Where'd you get that certificate? Just curious. NM
xx
Now, could you kick my butt into gear? LOL
I don't wanna work today.  Not sure if it's the rainy weather or if it's just my total lack of motivation!
Someone please give me a swift kick in the

rear end to get me to work. I go on a week long vacation starting Saturday with no kids and today I did about 1/4 of my normal lines and that might be padding it a little bit. I was too busy looking at pictures of where we're going. Did I mention no kids are going with me?

Before I get comments about why'd I have kids if I'm so happy they're not going to be there. I have 3 teens who act 65, two 13yo, 12-year-old and a 2-year-old. Three are hitting puberty and one just hit the terrible 2's. It will be our first vacation w/o kids in a long, long, long time. After only 3 days here my mom is asking why I'm not bald already from pulling my hair out. Now if work could just pay me to sit and look at pictures all day and daydream, I'd have it made.

I do think kindergarten and 1st grade might get a kick out of it.

Unfortunately, he really blew it and she really needs to kick him to the curb.
Sorry.
TWO dachsies stay in my lap (unless I kick them out then .....)
I'm MEAN MOMMY :)
I think you ought to kick the creep to the curb and be done with him.

Living life like that isn't living life at all.  You need to do what makes you happy.  Never, ever, stay together because of the kids.  Your kids are probably not the happiest children with the home situation the way it is, and you know that he already doesn't want the responsibility of taking care of your kids, so what's the use in having him hanging around your neck like an albatross?

I was married to a jerk who was very similar to your husband and with 3 children it wasn't easy to manage on my own, but I sure did it and I'm glad I did.  It was difficult getting out of my "comfort" (discomfort) zone and make the change, but I knew it had to happen.  That was nearly 5 years ago now and I am happier and my children are happier.  Dear old dad comes around whenever he feels like it to see the kids and I have his paycheck garnished for child support.

Best of luck to you!

#1-no doctor is going to kick me out of the room
#2 - My daughter has had the guardasil shots and is just fine. It protects again HPV which is one of the most sexually transmitted diseases that can cause cervical cancer.

It seems if these issues concerned you that much, you should take them up with the doctor.
I don't have certificate or formal training and
p
Are you talking about a Secure Certificate?
I'm not sure if that is the same thing as an e-signature? Perhaps you mean encryption. I'm not sure why you would need to supply a secure certificate to send files to a client; encryption 128-bit encryption should be find; 256-bit even better.
Something else about the Gold Touch.(Should I be getting a kick back from them?)
Something else about the Gold Touch.  I have my chair positioned so hands do not point up or down. I try to keep them as neutral as possible.  I also make sure my arms are resting on the armrests, so I am not using any strain/tension to keep them in place and even. I rest one arm on a little pillow wedged at my side since my short little arms don't rest on the arm rests in a comfortable position for me.  Then I fly.  I hardly have to move my hands at all, the fingers do the typing, so to speak. lol.
Anyone in your life who enjoys seeing you upset -- gets a kick out of it?

If you say you don't like a certain behavior or comment, it only makes him do it more and more and over many years just to get a reaction long after you have stopped reacting.

Or who is controlling to the point he wants to know when you showered and why do you need to shower if you didn't leave the house.

Or steals your glory, ideas for inventions or any project you start to say it was his idea and really mean it.

Or is extremely macho and needs to dominate the woman in his life or else he feels disrespected by her.

Or breaks things when he tells you to shut up during a discussion that isn't going his way and you don't.

Or….etc. --

But is happy and smiley face when it's time for dinner to be on the table.

I need to gripe or vent - please don't kick me off board

I occasionally come on this board, as do some of my coworkers to get help with words, look around, etc.  I've never posted but today I'm fuming and frustrated.

I just got done working a couple of extra hours at the hospital this morning, worked all day yesterday (overtime I might add) and do you know what my job has been on all this overtime? Correcting ALL of the outsource's work coming in.  What makes me mad is that all of us have been complaining to our boss and even to HER boss about all the mistakes this company makes - terrible dreadful DEADLY mistakes - and all we get back is "there is nothing we can do about it.  We signed a contract and we have to continue to use them until the contract ends." Which, by the way, ends in another year or two, I'm not sure.  But anyways, this outsource company (who is WELL KNOWN) does not even make an attempt to do our ESL doctors, who are not really that bad. I know there are harder doctors to understand as I have been doing this for 16 years.  The service sends the reports back with a ridiculous amount of blanks.  We go in and listen to them and basically redo the whole report, to which they get paid for it.  Then there are the easy docs - the so-called "hold your hand while I dictate to you" docs - and the service still has mistakes.

Our boss has asked on occasion if they are offshoring, which they swear they are not.  It was in the contract that they are not to offshore so they swear they are not and the mistakes don't look like they are offshore mistakes (the hospital used a company prior to this one that offshored - big difference in transcription mistakes).

I just cannot believe that our hospital has had this company for a little over two years and not only are they being paid a ridiculous high line rate, but we are correcting all their reports and they still get paid!! We have asked if we can start deducting lines, but we were told that their contract states that that cannot be done because our boss has tried that.

I have a friend that works at a hospital in another state that had an outsource service that was somewhat like the one we have, only they constantly lost reports and got paid for them, but she just lost her job because the hospital felt that there was no need to have all the overtime for the past year and the outsource service doing the overflow.  So they just hired a new outsource company, let all the transcriptionists inhouse go, and got rid of their current outsource service.  she is looking around for another job now.  She had that job for 9 years at the hospital, and because of the outsource service, the administration of the hospital looked at is as a huge $$ problem and just said bye bye.

I needed to vent. Aaaaahhh, I feel better now, but I'm worried that with all our overtime and what the outsource service gets paid, that I'm going to end up in the same boat.  Even our boss has admittedly had some worries about it as well, but she keeps telling us that her boss says her hands are tied and is just as frustrated with the service.  It makes you wonder how it is that these services can be in business for so long, make sooooo much money and do this.

coverage

I think it's great to see a thread discussing this subject.

However, when it comes to "prejudice," it has always been with us, since the beginning of time.  It is a human problem, not a white American problem, as so many people seem to be saying.  Some of the most prejudiced people I have encountered in my few decades of life have been non-whites.  When I lived in Latin America, I learned that brown-skinned people discriminate each other based on how light their skin tone is - the lighter the skin, hair color and eye color, the more prestige they had.  Some of our U.S. African-American soldiers were called derogatory names by the Somalians when we were over there - a real eye opener for them.  They thought they were "going home" and then were assailed with hatred and expletives because of their dark skin.

We all need to guard against letting our attitudes harden our hearts towards other people.  It is a life-long process.  I recently realized that my financial concerns because of income loss from this job of MT - with losing jobs to overseas, the foreign-born dictators making it so hard to earn a decent line count - were hardening my heart towards immigrants.  I am in the process of reassessing my attitude and thoughts about that.  I don't want to turn into an angry, hateful, bitter old bigot.

Coverage

That is the one problem with own accounts.  After three days to Tahoe-Reno I came back to 14 tapes as no one wanted anyone else.  But am thinking of taking nearly a week off later this year and so I would like some coverage.  I used to work for a small local MTSO here as an IC and still keep in touch and I might see if there is someone there that wants to do an extra tape or two during the week I am gone.  Also see if there is a chapter of local AAMT in your area -- and I am not sure if it is the national AAMT but here in Portland there is a group of MT's and I got a list of names from them who will do back up and overflow.  I haven't joined but have talked to a few people there and we do some networking.  I have been doing this for so long in the Portland area that I continuously run into people that did either the OHSU account I did or worked for one of the offices previously, etc.  It is a small world.  That is also how I get my people contact.  Also run an ad in the paper well ahead of when you are going to leave.  But there is always the fear that they could "take away" your account but since most of the gals that have helped me out I used to work with -- I don't worry about that.  And you know how it is the first few days on the account -- you don't do that well so they are either ready to kill my docs since I am so used to them or the office says -- "don't ever leave again" because that person does things different that we all appreciate each other immensely when I get back.  But there are ways, just gotta put a little effort into it.  They don't need to do it all but I came back to 14 tapes and if I could have had half done, it would have been nice.  Good luck.

What coverage?
say what?????
Not heartless...just a bully who likes to kick sand
Please....there is no justification for your behavior, don't try to come here and defend your disgusting behavior.  This woman is crying out for real help...not some quick, off the cuff, hurtful remark.  I feel sorry for you.
getting cmt is kind of like getting a certificate for being an excellent top of the line blacksmith.

so what?  so you jumped through all the hoops, learned the trade and now it is obsolete.  but you got your little CMT to keep you warm and cozy?  employers are going to pay what they are going to pay (as little as possible) and that little certificate means nothing to them in the broader scheme of MT world as it goes into the VR and offshore world.

oh but mr. national recruiter, i have a certificate and i should have 12 cpl for my skills and education....... bwaaaaahaaaaa.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks, we already have a used car without full coverage.

The payment's not that big on it, except when there's a mixup at the bank and they deduct one check twice with the same amount and same check number.  It just feels like the money mojo magnet is gone from my life this week!  LOL  Everything seems to go wrong all at once.

Vacation coverage

I have five accounts and two I have IC's who work for them -- psych accounts no problem when I leave town.  But my other three, have asked that I have NO ONE work on the account but me and they hold the tapes and I do them when I come back as fast as I can and sometimes wishing I had not taken time off.   No they work with me but then I don't take off much time and when I do it is usually a couple of days and the weekend so we are all not stressed.   If I were to have surgery or something I have friends that would help out and the accounts realize that it would be necessary.  That is one of the drawbacks of having your own accounts.  No work --no money.   But it does make you appreciate your time off.

If you are looking for single coverage, you

S/B able to get something reasonable.  If you're looking for family coverage it is doubtful you would find anything under $350.00/mo.  You might want to look into medical savings accounts.  You have to qualify for these and I'm not sure what the criteria is, but Google it.   If you are a non-smoker and have no pre-existing medical issues, aren't grossly overweight, and not planning a baby anytime soon, you might want to look at getting mainly a major medical plan that would cover you in event of hospitalization or something catastrophic, and just pay routine care out of pocket.

We currently have insurance through DH job, but when I was looking for independent coverage Celtic had the cheapest and then Medcost was the next cheapest.  I called several agencies and they all quoted me on Medcost, but the premiums varied as much as $200.00/mo.   BCBS has something caled Blue Advantage that you might want to look at.  I hate BCBS because they are such a pain to deal with and deny a large percentage of claims, but it might be an option.

If you have private coverage on yourself, you would not--sm
need workers' compensation on yourself. your private insurance would cover anything happening to you. If you have employees, they may need it, but only if you offered them employee insurance benefits. JMO.
I had individual coverage - sm
when I was IC and SE for a while.  It was expensive - but now I think it would be impossible as I am older.  Considerations are preexisting conditions.  My daughter lost her job and has Graves disease.  She is 23 years old and was flat turned down - no amount of money could get her coverage.  COBRA is costing 380 dollars a month until her new job's coverage kicks in.  If you have any preexisting conditions it may be extremely pricey.  Also do not let insurance lapse  - because anything you might have will not be covered for a period of time - usually a year.  If you are young and have no problems and depending on where you live - individual coverage can be found - before my daughter had problems we got it for under 100.00 a month.  Our state does have a program for people who cannot get coverage but I have not checked to see what that entails - you might call your state and see.
so maybe you should kick back and watch some tv as you relax and drift off in your lazyboy.
you'll hate yourself in the morning when you read your crazya$$ posts.
Thanks for all the feedback...time to kick it into high gear, I guess..nm
