I think that's pretty darn good! I just started VR on Dictaphone

and I'm having trouble breaking 2000.  It seems like it would be faster just to transcribe.

I've done pretty darn well (sm)
with the book smarts!

Don't get so tweaked about a silly label -- having a high IQ just means I process stuff faster, remember more of what I'm exposed to, make more connections faster, and do well at taking tests.

I'm also a really nice person and an incredible parent.

Lots of MTs are smarter than the average bear.
Darn! Darn! Darn! Just think if it paid to post...
some, ah hem, long-winded people would never have to work anywhere else!
DARN! I just missed it! Did he say anything good?

35,500 a year is darn good money to me!!!!!

I think I'm pretty bright and pretty good, too, but
I am not a CMT. I am a medical transcriptionist who enjoys her job very much (most days). I have chosen not to pursue certification simply because I cannot afford to do so. I believe the certification is a nice thing to have, but I don't believe it is necessary for employment or for excellence in my job. If you can afford it, go for it. If you can't, don't feel too bad. You can still take pride in and do a very good job without it.
They make darn good money at most large grocery stores
No, I don't tip them. If I thought they weren't getting paid hourly, then I might. I might tip someone who gave extra great service, like coming home and carrying them in the house for me, (j/k!) but most places where you are expected to tip, people just expect the tip and take it for granted anymore and don't always treat you well enough to deserve one!
Especially for Iowa, that is pretty good. UI can get good over time, but that's because of the u

Coffee just always smells so darn good, doesn't it? I drink 3 cups of coffee... sm

in the morning (used to be 4) w/Nutrasweet, a little regular powdered creamer and a little liquid French Vanilla creamer (yes, I do like it sweet!)  If I'm really sleepy and need the boost, I'll have another cup or two.

Then I immediately start drinking diet Dr. Pepper, and not the caffeine-free kind.  Love it.  I drink diet Dr. Pepper throughout the day and night, about 6 cans a day (it used to be diet Coke).  I've joked with my friends and family that it might be time for them to hold an intervention for me with the Dr. P.

I do sometimes worry about the mass quantity of Nutrasweet I consume each day.  Anybody else?

PRETTY GOOD
GOOD GOIN PEEPS!
Yes, I usually got pretty good communication. NM

Pretty good experience here
I was worried about switching, too, since I had read here so many people complaining about line counts being down, but for me I notice a small improvement in my line count on DQS, about 30 lines an hour, but I don't work on DQS regularly, just occasionally, and I think my line count would be a bit higher if I worked on it regularly and got used to using the shortcuts more.  There are a few small things I would tweak on DQS per my preferences, but otherwise I think it's pretty decent and easy to use.
I use Spellex and it's pretty good.

Like Diana, I used to use Stedmans but now use Spellex.  It just seems to pick up a few more terms.  JMO

I think this one is supposed to be pretty good
I've only ever used it for double-checking, though (which it was fine for), so don't know about all of the features, etc.

I try to avoid it, but I'm a pretty good diagnostician.
Most of the time I'm right, but I hate to do it, cause they invariably will say, "then what should I do?"  - at which point I have to tell them, "go to the doctor.  I'm not a doctor, I'm a diagnostician."
Here is a pretty good link for medications. sm
Let's see if this link works.
TransHealth has pretty good insurance.

have you had a pretty good success rate doing this?
how is the wait time?  TIA
Their attack on non-CMT's is a pretty good barometer
Of COURSE they're gonna say they'd rather have their medical records typed in India. The main source of wealth is coming from promoting offshore transcription, and from conning offshore MT's into buying into their phone credentialling system. If they're so 'pro-MT', then why have they been so instrumental in moving so much of it out of the US?
What a load of bull they're feeding everyone.
10 cpl for gross lines is pretty good for Rad.

I transcribe more men, so my vote goes to them. The women I get are usually pretty good. I had 1
that was awful but that was because it was tapes and she'd record at 2x speed so she could get more on the tape, so when it was converted to PlayAll files for uploading to the FTP site the clarity would be awful.  They just (finally) got her staff to reset all the machines there and now she is MUCH better.  They have even commented on how much better the reports are now  (not as many blanks), and the few of us that do her now actually enjoy her work as she is a good moneymaker but now she's better as you can do her a little faster now.  Yeah!
I've been using it a few years now. It's pretty good. You'll get used to it. -nm

10 cents a line, 350 lph sounds pretty good to me!
I've got 30 years experience and I've not found to setup you have..Be very careful about changing. I've been looking for over a year and not found anything close to what you say you have. I've also worked for a company for over a year now and still get doctors whom I have never transcribed before.. almost on a nightly basis!
I work 2 jobs and have my hours set pretty good. First

job is Sun through Wed 6 am to 2:30 pm, since we only need 32 hours for benefits. Second job is 8-11 pm Sun through Wed. I work both jobs at home so on Thurs. and Fri. I volunteer at the middle school so I get a chance to get out of the house and deal with other people. I got lucky because both jobs pay every other week but on different weeks so it worked out that I get paid every week.

It's Dictaphone's ExText and it's good/easy, but some feel the line counts are skewed at

starting out that is really good , I started out at 5.5 c
You really cant go by the line count. Is this company going to give you a set amount of minutes to transcribe or are you able to pull what you want whenver you need it. That has a big part to play in how many lines you get.

Also is this clinic or acute. Clinic normally has shorter reports (but not always) and acute can be pages and pages or very short.

I think I was getting anywhere from 600 to 1000 a day first starting out, but it has been so long ago it is hard to tell.
Oh, geez! My cheeks hurt from laughing. That was pretty good!

I work for a national. Most of the time the voices are pretty good, but

I have been getting some of late that have background noices, door slamming, people talking,  Sometimes the doc will stop talking but the noices sound so close to him that it is annoying.  Do you think the sound card would interfere with my company's computer?  It sounds nice to have even though it does not help the background stuff.   I guess that is a good question for tech.  Thanks again!

The good days started unraveling when

The nationals started buying up the mom and pop MT businesses that started cropping up in most cities in the late-1980's and early 1990's. Most of these were small businesses with a few local doctor's office accounts and hospitals, had a guy who ran back and forth picking up and delivering tapes, and everyone got along fine for the most part aside from the expected competition between local companies. Then came Medquist, Transcend, etc. who swooped in and started scooping up these companies by the handful, and pretty soon we had what we have today. It happens. What started out as a good thing (computer networking) making us able to leave the offices and work from home, continued to evolve into what this business is today. Now it's taking off in another direction with voice rec and overseas MT's who work for peanuts. I've seen this business evolve from the IBM Selectric, a tape player, and a bottle of white-out to what it is today, and it's amazing what changes there have been in the last 27  years. Who would have known!

I am in #5. I started the poll. Just curious what others think is good.

The line rate sounds pretty good compared to other places - by "punch the clock", you mean
it really is not a flexible schedule, even for an IC? That's what I need the most.
Darn right he's still hot.

Darn!

That's the one I was leaning towards . . . I was hoping to learn that it did not interfere with typing.  While wearing the glove it is much easier to type on my AlphaGrip, but I am still not speedy enough to use it full-time.  I'm getting there though.

I kick myself when I think how I caused my own hand/wrist/arm injury.  Trying to resolve my back pain, I rushed into using my inherited recliner, where I had to "reach" to reach the keyboard . . . my arm will never be the same.

I am in the recliner again now , but I'm spending a buttload of dough to make it happen.

Darn! And I
hoped this might be the place for me. Don’t want to have anything to do with overseas. Thanks for the info.

yep you can be anyway you darn sm
well please and you have the right to say exactly what you like to say. you can scream, kick, pitch a fit, do what ever you darn well please. But your attitude stinks. I never said I loved the dialect or any of it, but it IS PART OF THE JOB that doesn't make me a candidate to go live in another country. I don't care how old you are or how young you are, you are the kind of person with the attitude that makes every other MT that you work with miserable. I have worked with the likes of your kind and its why I chose to work at home for 25 of my 30+ years in this business. The complaining, back-biting etc of people like you make life miserable for every other person around them.

I always kind of thought that if folks like you took the energy that you use being awful to other people and put it into your work, you would make a lot more money!
Darn it, was supposed to go under the

well, darn now my avatar went away

darn right, have no clue!

"Have no clue" is an understatement!!!  Not being nasty here -- just stating a fact.  I know an MTSO who says when she tries to call physician's offices and gets the manager and explains that she is calling requesting to speak with the person in charge about doing their transcription for them, most often the answer she gets is "What's transcription?"  She swears they hire personnel based on a certain part of their anatomy and it's not the brain.

Then, if she's lucky enough to get through to the physician in charge, he is not willing to pay a decent fee.  She has apologized to me for not paying me more but told me that on some accounts they are only making 1/4 of a cent after expenses (including MT pay).  She said they have to bid low to get the work.  She hates marketing now.

It is NOT Monday, darn it!!!!
But it's going to be one of those days!  I had a doctor give the date of service as 4-8-05, and now I have one of the very worst ESLs ever dictating a colonoscopy, and he says the throat was sprayed with Xylocaine!  Think these guys have been hitting the eggnog a bit early?
How do I get rid of these darn popup ads? nm

DARN TOOTIN'..... SM

Suppose you worked in a department store, or as a receptionist, or even at McDonalds.  You were given a specific shift, specific hours... you don't have the option of doing your work at your convenience. For argument's sake, say they gave you a 8-4 or 9-5 shift.  Suppose there were very little, if any, customers in the department store or the McDonald's in the morning and you were told you had to work after 4 or 5 to make up for this, or suppose again there were greeters at your receptionist job, or no drivers at your job as a tolltaker and you're likewise told you had to work extra hours beyond your shift, or a policeman and had made no arrests in the a.m. and you had to work after your shift until you did to make up for the slack. Get my meaning?  IN WHAT OTHER JOB (I DEFY ANYONE TO NAME JUST ONE, BESIDES HOME MT.... COULD THE EMPLOYER DEMAND THIS?  Just name me 1
