Remember that in order to qualify with the IRS...sm

for a home office deduction you have to meet the following criteria.   Don't overdecorate or they may get you...

Do You Have a Deductible Home Office?

Tax 2005-54, March 17, 2005

Whether you are self-employed or an employee, if you use a portion of your home exclusively and regularly for business purposes, you may be able to take a home office deduction.

You can deduct certain expenses if your home office is the principal place where your trade or business is conducted or where you meet and deal with clients or patients in the course of your business. If you use a separate structure not attached to your home for an exclusive and regular part of your business, you can deduct expenses related to it.

Your home office will qualify as your principal place of business if you use it exclusively and regularly for the administrative or management activities associated with your trade or business. There must be no other fixed place where you conduct substantial administrative or management activities. If you use both your home and other locations regularly in your business, you must determine which location is your principle place of business, based on the relative importance of the activities performed at each location. If the relative importance factor doesn't determine your principle place of business, you can also consider the time spent at each location.

If you are an employee, you have additional requirements to meet. You cannot take the home office deduction unless the business use of your home is for the convenience of your employer. Also, you cannot take deductions for space you are renting to your employer.

Generally, the amount you can deduct depends on the percentage of your home used for business. Your deduction will be limited if your gross income from your business is less than your total business expenses.

Expenses that you can deduct for business use of the home may include the business portion of real estate taxes, mortgage interest, rent, utilities, insurance, depreciation, painting and repairs. However, you may not deduct expenses for lawn care or those related to rooms not used for business.

There are special rules for qualified daycare providers and for persons storing business inventory or product samples.

For more information, see IRS Publication 587, Business Use of Your Home.

If you are self-employed, use Form 8829, Expenses for Business Use of Your Home, to figure your home office deduction and report those deductions on line 30 of Schedule C, Form 1040. Employees can use the worksheet in Pub. 587 to figure their allowable expenses and claim them as a miscellaneous itemized deduction on Schedule A, Form 1040.

To be on the safe side, you may also want to review IRS Publication 4035, Home-Based Business Tax Avoidance Schemes, which describes schemes that claim to offer tax relief but which actually result in illegal tax avoidance.

IRS publications and forms are available on this Web site or by calling the IRS at 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676).

I don't remember. It has been a long,...sm
long time since I had daily work available to me. I don't even remember. You know I seen on the world news last night that health care is slowing up because of the economy. Even people with health ins are not having surgeries, tests, or just simply going to the doc because they can't afford the copay or deductible. I know work has slowed.
Absolutely! My grandmother has been doing this for as long as I can remember...she is
in her 80s, still coloring and going strong! I, too, color my own hair. I don't usually do it, but when I feel the "need," I do my own. Saves big money and looks great every time.
I remember hearing it should take the average MT twice as long

transcribe as it takes the physician to dictate.  So for 30 minutes of dictation, if you sat and transcribed without interruption, it should take about 60 minutes.  However, I believe that was a MTSO telling me that, soooooo

Now years ago, probably in the mid 90s, I used to work for a hospital that tracked our productivity based on minutes a day versus lines.  The minimum requirement for that job was 90 minutes of dictation in a 7.5 hour day (they deducted 30 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute brakes which equals a 7.5 hour day).  So that kind of debunks the "30 minutes of dictation in 60 minutes" theory that the MTSO had.

I don't know if my ponderings have helped you at all, but there ya go!

Elimiate white flour and white sugar from your diet.

Dictaphone strips?
How about the Dictaphone belts.  They were strips of..whatever??  that we put into the Dictaphone machine to transcribe.  We first would put them into the doctor's machine for his dictation (at the clinic I worked at).  Then when he was done either he or the nurse would bring the magnetic? strip and clinic papers to me and I would transcribe on my IBM Selectric typewriter..LOLOLOL..Thanks for the memories, fellow transcriptionists!
Mine strips FOR me!
LOL...

Actually, my spouse is a web designer.

:)
I use Veet wax strips (sm)
I used the tub of wax and strip method for a long time and that works good, but I recently started using Veet strips and they're awesome.  You just rub them between your hands to warm up the wax.
sticky strips
We went through this at the hospital I worked for a couple of years ago and I can't quite remember why it turned out to be okay to register patients like this, but supposedly it was okay. My doctor's office has you write your name on a sticky strip which they immediately take off so it does not stay on the record there, but they still do call your name, so you can't travel incognito if you wanted to. It does seem like a violation of some sort. My drug store won't even tell my husband my Rx is ready for pick up, even though I've told them it's okay.
sticky strips, RXs

Thanks for reminding me what they're called!   As for the RX thing, my pharmacy is the same way.  You know it's just a huge CYA thing, and creates many inconveniences for "us," but they don't want to fool with a lawsuit.

Anyway, from what I've read here, either some places are okay, and others are in violation.  Fortunately it hasn't affected my life.  It's been interesting to read the different posts, though.

Why not leave them white or off-white and use

accessories and window treatments to bring it together.  Personally, I like neutral color walls and like to decorate around them.  You can bring the rooms together with nice window treatments, throw pillows, and candles with candle holders.

Pier-1 imports has great decorating ideas.

Good luck.

Yes I qualify

He owns the home we currently live in, that is why I have to move. :0)

Yes it will help to use RE taxes at the end of the year. Thanks.

If you qualify for financial aid

You might want to consider looking into EVCC. It is a community college that uses the Career Step courseware, but you have instructors and accept Pell Grants and Stafford Loans.

EVCC grads get the same consideration from employers as Career Step grads.

If you can get the work to qualify for the
benefits. You pretty much have to work when there is work even though you have a set schedule. Not sure about LD. I know a few they have and a few they haven't. As far as management, there is a lot to be desired.

I'd look elsewhere. Transtech was hiring for Radiology and I hear they are a good company.

If you like to be treated like crap and fight for work, WELCOME TO MDI!
If you feel they need, they qualify. nm

You may qualify for unemployment, but...
You can not draw unemployment and go back to college.  You have to be available and read to work, even if the employment commission finds you a job.  Going back to college would stop your payments immediately I'm afraid.
There must be other jobs we would qualify for with
our experience as medical transcriptionists. Any ideas on what other jobs might be out there, or we could possibly take some course and land another type of position. I would love to know in what direction to move since the inevitable is all over the place, that we will all be unemployed at some point. Even though Editor jobs are still available, that will come to an end sooner or later too. We have to prepare ourselves now for the future. I predict in about 5 years our job will be extinct. Let's put our heads together and come up with a solution to find other employment with our skills.
maybe she doesnt read comic strips but she has her head in the clouds
you are one of those who thinks their kids can do no wrong.  right?  It doesnt matter WHAT SHE DID, it doesnt give someone the right to KILL HER!!!!!!!!! Hello!!!!!! It doesn't mean her parents were bad parents.   HELLO.   Judge not!!!!!!!
If you had sweet tea and biscuits then you qualify as a....

So this does qualify as continuous coverage, right? Thanks for your help. NM

Find Percu-Stay adhesive dressings/strips, but no sutures. nm

saw a great show the other night where they separated with fabric strips that had been tie-died

using golf balls.  I think this would look great and also be pretty see through so that your son felt like he had his own space but you would still be able to see what he was doing.  With a three-year old, I guess you would use a permanent mount curtain rod so that he couldn't keep pulling it down.  Good luck!

Changing shift and cut in pay both qualify as material changes, but . . .
it is super hard to draw unemployment for these reasons. My state has pretty much the same rule, but even after being forced to change job duties (MT to computer programming), go back to working in house (45 minute drive), go from second to first shift, and put my child in day care (at my old hospital job), I couldn't draw unemployment because I quit.

Which companies allow you to work under 40 hours and still qualify for benefits?
Thanks for any and all help.
If you have the Works Suite you qualify for the upgrade version.
I just recently bought the Small Business version upgrade with Word 2003 (the computer came with Works Suite)for my new computer. It still has Windows XP. I have Word 2002 with Works Suite on my other computer. I am thinking about getting the Student Teacher edition for my other computer and my mom's computer, as it can be put on 3 computers. My license with the Small Business upgrade says one computer only. I was a little disappointed about this, as I wanted to put in on both computers. I thought I could use it on both as long as I personally used both of them, but not at the same time.
can you not work 6 hours a day and still qualify for full time? sm
i know most places it is usually 30 or 32 hours constitute full time. if it is 30 hours, then you could do 6 hour days 5 days a week and get in 30. is there a possibility you could do a split shift and that would allow your feet and you rest time between shifts? guess no possibility of working from home, LOL. i definitely understand your frustrations. sometimes the good employees get the short end of the stick cuz they need you the most.
Your white cat
I have a feral kitten and I brought in a log for him to claw on and he loves it. You could try that.

White noise sm
I have a small TV and Bose radio/CD player in my office.  I worked 30 years in a clinic setting and am just used to working with the sound of people around me.  I have remotes to those two things, plus remote for ceiling fan/lite and DVD player on desk, lol.  I think it might be time to get a universal remote.
White Chili
and homemade fresh salsa. Yum!
White tea and ginger (sm)
You can get it on the B&BW website--it's on sale now for $5, too.
What is white chestnut?...nm
nm
The White House says they did not know about
and then went on TV to talk about taxes.  I think if you watch FOX news you could see it was not democrats or republicans but everyday people who are sick of politicians lying to us.  I have not seen any "Change" just more spending to pay back the people who bought this election. IMHO.....
I hate Instant Text. It is expensive, long long learning
curve, and too much distraction for me.
white noise machine
I had a neighbor who had a dog who barked all night and also another neighbor who played music all night.  I bought a white noise machine for about $20.00.  I had a choise of ocean waves, birds chirping, rain hitting the house, thunder, so many more sounds and it worked..It would drown out the outside noises.I had tried ear plugs, calling the cops (the minute they left the dog and neighbor would start again), confronting the neighbors..nothing worked but the white nose machine..You can get one at any department store..
I have never seen a white man/woman in the fields.
Who would want to stand in 100 plus degree temps or, in winter, nonstop rain, chilly temps, working the fields or tending the cattle? No one who was raised with sliced bread; they'd probably starve first.

I was married to an ag man (cattle). The immigrants come and go across the border often (visiting family). It is not difficult.

They are keeping the price of the food you eat down.

Actually, there are many left, both black and white.
God Bless them all.
And I want the white chili recipe!

Try straight white vinegar. sm
I use it all the time. Of course, the smell is horrible but at least it is better than some of that stuff you buy in the store.  I usually rinse it real well after and then dry everything.
put a little white vinegar is a bowl and set it out.
Vinegar is a great neutralizer.  I always have my stove exhaust fan on when cooking odorous foods and if possible I open a window.   We had someone housesit for us who smoked in the house, even though they were told they couldn't.   I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke and we had to wash all the surfaces with vinegar.   I had a used car dealer tell me one time when I was complaining about a smell in a used car to cut an apple in half and put it under the seat, so maybe an apple would work too.
oh yeah, like white americans and others...sm

another one who needs their head examined - blaming all the crime in America on illegal aliens.....you're very sick......

Just look at the predators going after kids - NOT ONE IS EVER FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY - only white trailer park trash oh and priests.......pedophiliacs......

Gang rapes - usually done by white men.......

drugs were around way before the illegal aliens - street gangs were around before illegal aliens (think MAFIA and then Bloods and Crips)........

Geesh - you need to just quit posting is all....ill-educated as far as the street goes, eh?

look in the mirror before you falsly accuse Immigrants!!

Trailer park trash has been on the welfare rolls for 4 decades in this country!!  They keep having more babies thinking they can stay on forever.  Good thing the welfare laws are changing!!

Not a black or white thing
Am white, use reckon and fixin to, these are just southern expressions I grew up with. So funny told hubby I was gonna take my bath- he said well that was really rude. My grandson piped up and said everyone in his family took a bath. What a laugh that got! I told hubby the other day not gonna do something, just like beating a dead horse and spinning my wheels, no use. Gosh I wish I could think of more but mind is sorta blank on these at this time.
red and yellow, black and white--OK
Type as dictated. Oriental male and black male are both acceptable phrases.
Oriental, Caucasian, Filipino, Hispanic, Latino, etc., are all names of peoples/races and should be capitalized.
Color designations of race and ethnicity are not capitalized: black, white.

See BOS 2nd Edition for more information: pgs 366-367, 202, 70.
White Chestnut, keeps me focussed.

Is Pres. Obama taking into consideration how many U.S. based medical transcriptionists will be out of work when his medical records program, computerizing medical records, is put into effect?  Thousands upon thousands upon thousands.  This end result is never addressed, only how it will save jobs, save money......NOT from my point of view.  I changed jobs 11 years ago to become a Transcriptionist thinking it was going to be a prosperous move.  I am 50 years old.  Where will my job be in a few years?

How long should I wait after applying for a position before I follow-up. It has been as long as two
without hearing from some.  Just wondering if I should send an e-mail to follow-up to see if they received my resume or not.  I don't want to offend anyone but feel two weeks should be long enough for someone to at least acknowledge my resume and that I have applied for a position.  Right now I would accept anything even a note saying no thanks.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I haven't had to apply for a job for the past 10 years so I am a bit rusty at this.  Thanks again for any advice.
Can someone PLEASE call the white coats with the net for this crack pot?

crime of color versus white
Wow, to admit your prejudice..I thank you!  I grew up in NYC and we had all colors, all religions, all beliefs, all lifestyles and I feel so fortunate as I have lived in different parts of the country and many have never even seen others that are different than them..I friend of mine grew up in Missouri and she never even met a Black person till she moved to California..Blew my mind.  Yes, I do think the missing white girls or boys get coverage and believe me out here in California in South Central LA, Compton area, Blacks are killed and missing every day.  I think our country has progressed tremendously in terms of racial equality but there still is much lacking.  On the Natalee Holloway case, my heart breaks each day when there is still no news.  I truly believe that Joran had something to do with Natalee's death and that they disposed of her body.  Im just saddened by the whole thing because I think he is just a boy and I dont think it was out of malice or hate, I think whatever they were doing that night caused her death, be it drugs, sex and maybe she fell and hit her head, whatever..I dont think he set out to murder her but I do think he was involved with her death and then never notified the authorities out of fear, then disposed of her body in the shark infested waters..I dont think we will ever know unless he or the two other boys confess.
